Brad Pitt has been a consistent presence in blockbuster action comedies for the better part of the past two decades. After rising to fame for dramatic roles during the 1990s – such as in A River Runs Through It, Legends of the Fall, Interview with the Vampire, Seven, and Fight Club – Pitt found further commercial success by starring in the Ocean's trilogy of heist comedies. He further solidified his status as a leading man in blockbuster action movies like Troy, the action-comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and World War Z.
In 2020, Pitt won his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as stuntman Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He's also received Oscar nominations for his performances in 12 Monkeys, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Moneyball. Keith David and Richard Kind star in the indie horror-comedy Portal to Hell.
Deadline reports that Raven Banner Entertainment has acquired the movie for worldwide sales and distribution, introducing it to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin.
Premiering this weekend at Slamdance in Los Angeles, the film marks the feature debut of writer-director-cinematographer Woody Bess.
Trey Holland (The Diabolical) stars as Dunn, a debt collector who lives a life of routine until a portal to Hell opens in his local laundromat. A demon (Kind) emerges to drag Dunn’s neighbor, Mr. Bobshank (David), to Hell for an unpaid debt.
Helping people settle their debts is Dunn’s specialty, but when the demon offers a sinister deal—three souls in exchange for Bobshank’s freedom—he refuses. However, when one of his debtors follows him to the laundromat, the line between right and wrong begins to blur, forcing Dunn...

The debut feature film of Caitlin Cronenberg, daughter of legendary body horror auteur David Cronenberg, is quickly rising on Hulu's charts. Sitting at number three as of this writing, Humane was released in April 2024 but didn't receive much attention at the time. The psychological thriller hit Shudder in July of that year, but still didn't make much of a blip. It seems the underrated film is finally getting its due on Hulu.
Humane takes place in an alternate reality Canada, where the climate crisis has prompted the world's governments to institute a euthanasia campaign in order to rid Earth of 20% of its human population. The narrative centers on the Yorks, an estranged family brought together one evening by patriarch Charles. He has a surprise for his children, one that will lead the night into a terrifying nightmare full of twists and turns.

A new output deal will see Lionsgate movies continue to premiere on the Starz cable channel and streaming service after the two companies split.
One of the sneaky unknown questions surrounding the split of the Lionsgate movie studio from the Starz cable channel and streaming bundle was whether Lionsgate films would still go to Starz first once the break up was complete. That’s the arrangement currently, but as the two entities are on track to become separate, publicly traded companies, Lionsgate could easily have made a streaming deal with a new service once it was officially on its own. However, Deadline reported this week that Lionsgate and Starz have extended their output deal for multiple years as they take the necessary steps to split for good.

It's not surprising that a show created by Seth MacFarlane would feature big name stars, and his Star Trek homage The Orville is certainly packed with celebrity appearances, from Charlize Theron to Ted Danson. But there’s a huge Hollywood star whose cameo in the second season may have passed you by.
In the seventh episode of season 2, "Deflectors," an envoy from the planet Moclus comes aboard the Orville to escort one of their top engineers, Locar (Kevin Daniels), who is there to help the ship's engineering team upgrade its deflectors. This makes things awkward for the Orville crew member Bortus (Peter Macon), another Moclan and Locar's ex.
And Bortus isn’t the only crew member having troubles with failed love affairs. Having ended a relationship with on-board teacher Cassius (Chris Johnson) at the start of the episode, First Commander Kelly Grayson (Adrienne Palicki) finds herself the recipient of a...

Brad Pitt has yet to bag his Best Actor Oscar but he has been part of several Oscar-winning films. Interestingly, Pitt’s career was truly kickstarted by an Oscar-winning film that cast him in a role that also considered George Clooney. Filmmaker Ridley Scott cast the Fight Club actor as J.D. in his feminist film, Thelma & Louise.

The film, starring Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis, went on to win the Best Original Screenplay for Callie Khouri at the 64th Academy Awards. However, Pitt wasn’t paid a whole lot of money compared to the millions he raked in later in his career. He was paid $6000 for his role in the film.

It's business as usual in Los Angeles now the worst of the wildfires is over and Spider-Noir resumed shooting yesterday. Lead star Nicolas Cage, no stranger to comic book adaptations, has been spotted in costume as Ben Reilly, albeit in his P.I. gear rather than a super-suit.
The actor first played this version of Spidey in 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and became an instant fan-favourite. The fact he's getting to reprise the role in live-action isn't something we ever expected, though this Spider-Man is Ben, not Peter Parker (we don't think that makes him a clone; it's more than likely a result of Sony not wanting to confuse audiences).
It's been a while since we got any updates about Spider-Noir but MGM and Amazon Prime appear to be moving full steam ahead with the streaming series.
While it was put into development before Sony Pictures pulled the plug on its villain-led Marvel Universe,...

Actor Faran Tahir is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Disney+ series ‘Vision Quest,’ a spinoff from WandaVision. Tahir will reprise his role as Raza, the leader of the Ten Rings terrorist organization, a character he first played in 2008’s Iron Man. This marks Tahir’s first MCU appearance in nearly two decades, making his return a noteworthy moment for fans of the franchise.
Raza’s story was last seen in Iron Man, where he orchestrated Tony Stark’s kidnapping to force the creation of a Jericho missile. Although the character appeared to meet his end in the film, the MCU has shown time and again that death isn’t always permanent.
The series will follow Vision, played by Paul Bettany, as he attempts to regain his memories and redefine his purpose after the events of Avengers: Infinity War and WandaVision.

Marvel Studios’ upcoming Vision series with Paul Bettany is going back to the source code: Faran Tahir is joining the show as Raza, the role he originated in the studio’s first feature film, 2008’s “Iron Man.”
Bettany is returning as the ghostly white version of the synthezoid he first played in the 2015 film “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and James Spader is reprising his role from “Age of Ultron” as the titular villainous AI. Todd Stashwick (“Star Trek: Picard”) is also playing an unspecified character.
Resurrecting Tahir’s character nearly 20 years after he first appeared will mark the longest gap between appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. That’s an even more impressive feat considering that Raza — best known for kidnapping Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, the inciting incident that leads Start to become Iron Man — was seemingly killed halfway through “Iron Man” by the film’s main villain,...

Disney+’s Vision series is bringing back another familiar face from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Faran Tahir will reprise his role as villain Raza in the upcoming Marvel TV show, a role he played in the original 2008 Iron Man movie, our sister site Deadline reports. In that film, Raza was the leader of the terrorist group known as Ten Rings who imprisoned Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. Raza was betrayed and seemingly killed by Jeff Bridges’ Obadiah Stane — but we all know death is merely a state of mind when it comes to comic books.

You know when you get a small part in a movie that nobody expects to do that well, but ends up launching the biggest franchise in history, and you reprise the role two decades later? No, we don't either, but someone who is about to find out is Faran Tahir, who has just been cast — according to Deadline — in Marvel Studios’ Vision Quest: a highly anticipated WandaVision spin-off series for Disney+ which will star Paul Bettany as the titular character. Tahir is reprising his role as Raza, the leader of the Ten Rings terrorist organization who first appeared in 2008’s Iron Man (which was later fleshed-out and expanded in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). Tahir will reprise the role of the villainous Raza, leader of the terrorist organization the 10 Rings who tried to kill Tony Stark in Iron Man.
Details are scarce on the new project, but as we previously reported, the Marvel Vision spinoff has been in development at Disney+ since 2022 and was picked up to series in May. In addition to Bettany returning to the role he has played in three Marvel films and in WandaVision, James Spader will reprise his MCU role of Ultron. Todd Stashwick will also appear in an undisclosed role.

After the collapse of the studio system, when actors were finally given more autonomy regarding their careers and were much more free to choose the types of roles and films they'd appear in, the true test of an actor became what happened when and if they reached megastardom. Some stars love the limelight so much that they try and give their public what it is they think they want to see over and over again, and can find themselves feeling burned out or too typecast in the process. Others become much more reclusive, either outright refusing easy paycheck jobs or being extremely picky about their projects. Then there are those stars who manage to straddle the line between the commercial and artistic sides of their vocation, and are able to spin their newfound clout into a mixture of roles that demonstrate not only their range, but also their creative curiosity.

Netflixs Magic: The Gathering animated series has been resurrected by the streamer. Per Collider, Star Trek: Picard Season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas will now head up the project. The announcement caps a long process for the series, which was first announced in 2019.
In 2019, MCU directors Joe and Anthony Russo were expected to direct with Henry Gilroy (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and Jose Molina (Firefly) as head writers. That team eventually departed and Jeff Kline (Transformers: Prime) was brought on as executive producer. Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) was cast to voice the main character in the series, Planeswalker Gideon Jura, in 2021. Earlier this month, Routh said the series was shelved by Netflix. It has not been announced whether Routh will remain part of the series, which is now in its third incarnation.

THR reports that Todd Stashwick is set to reunite with Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas on Marvel’s upcoming Vision series.
The follow-up to WandaVision will once again star Paul Bettany as the android, and it was announced last month that James Spader will reprise his role as Ultron. Beyond brief mentions in other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, we haven’t seen Ultron since his introduction in Avengers: Age of Ultron close to ten years ago. As for who Stashwick will play in the Vision series, THR’s sources say he will play “an assassin who is on the trail of the android and the technology he possesses.” The series is aiming to look in England in early 2025.

Stashwick played Captain Liam Shaw in the third season of Star Trek: Picard. The character butted heads with Jean-Luc Picard but quickly grew into a fan-favourite.

“Star Trek: Picard” actor Todd Stashwick has joined the cast of Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Vision” series, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.
Stashwick is reuniting with his “Star Trek” executive producer Terry Matalas, who is the showrunner for the untitled project, which will see the return of actor Paul Bettany as Vision. James Spader also recently joined the cast as supervillain Ultron.
After dying at the hands of Thanos in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” Vision was recreated by a grieving Wanda Maximoff’s (Elizabeth Olsen) magic. Additionally, a separate white version of Vision was rebuilt by S.W.O.R.D. after his body was recovered from Wakanda. After the two Visions battled in the “WandaVision” finale, White Vision’s memories were restored and he immediately flew off. Meanwhile, the Vision manifested by Wanda faded from existence after she chose to drop the Hex over Westview.

There’s a disturbing plausibility to director Asif Kapadia’s docudrama 2073, which just premiered out of competition at the Venice Film Festival. It’s set 49 years in the future, a time when surveillance drones swarm the skies and shock troops keep the order, truncheons in hand. We’re not in America anymore. Welcome to “New San Francisco – Capital of the Americas.”
Old geographic boundaries have dissolved, apparently, but not because we’ve all come together as one. No, the S.F. location hints at a future where Silicon Valley and its tech bro billionaires like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel have achieved hegemony, in alliance with authoritarian political leaders.
A digital billboard in a Blade Runner-like urban environment blares, “Chairwoman Trump celebrates 30th year in power” with a picture of a grinning Ivanka Trump. Farfetched? Maybe so, maybe not.

“2073” can’t come soon enough.
The upcoming feature, distributed by Neon and inspired by Chris Marker’s influential “La Jetée” (which was also the basis for Terry Gilliam’s “12 Monkeys”), imagines a bleak future world, using footage and interviews from our present to drive the point home.
You can watch the first trailer for Asif Kapadia’s hybrid feature, combining non-fiction and fiction elements, below:
“2073,” which premieres out of competition (in the non-fiction category) this week at the Venice Film Festival, stars Samantha Morton and Naomi Ackie in a narrative that features time travel, alongside talking head interviews with Maria Ressa, Carole Cadwalladr, Rana Ayyub and Ben Rhodes.
It’s a fascinating (and extremely depressing) conceit that will see director Kapadia, who has helmed documentaries like “Senna” and “Amy” but also narrative projects like episodes of David Fincher’s “Mindhunter,” combine two disciplines in exciting and unique ways.

Though known for narrative features like “The Warrior” and his work on the Netflix series “Mindhunter,” as well as biographical documentaries “Senna” and “Amy,” Asif Kapadia aims to bridge the gap between these two forms with his latest project, “2073.” Featuring performances from actors Samantha Morton, Naomi Ackie, and Hector Hewer intercut with “archival footage” of our present day and interviews with real-world figures Maria Ressa, Carole Cadwalladr, Rana Ayyub, Ben Rhodes, and many others, this self-described “warning” presents our possible dystopian future, as well as the road we took to get there.
The official synopsis read, “Kapadia’s genre-bending documentary set in the future tackles the biggest challenges endangering our present. ‘2073’ is a ‘true sci-fi’ horror. A warning of the world we will get if we don’t act now. Ghost lives off-grid in a dystopian New San Francisco in the year 2073. The world is controlled by Libertarians,...

The youngest daughter of Die Hard star and Hollywood icon Bruce Willis, Tallulah Willis, has offered an update on how her father is doing following his retirement from acting amid health issues. Bruce Willis, who has of course been one of the worlds biggest movie stars for decades, took the decision to walk away from acting in 2022 due to aphasia and was later diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
Now, in an interview with E! News, Tallulah Willis has opened up about her fathers health, saying that he is doing about the same as he was a year ago. Which, she says, is a good thing considering his recent diagnosis.

Hulu subscribers will have a chance to check out an underappreciated Western series this month. On Sept. 15, the streaming platform will add all five seasons of Hell on Wheels.
Created by Joe Gayton and Tony Gayton, Hell on Wheels originally ran for fives seasons on AMC between 2011 and 2016. Its reviews were largely positive with the fifth and final season garnering especially strong acclaim with a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite sticking the landing, the series doesn't seem to have garnered the attention it deserved in recent years, though its fan base continues to grow as more people discover the show.

The 1990s was an amazing decade for movies. There were a ton of indie films making waves in Hollywood. Some of these were immediate hits when they were released, but others bombed at the box office. Either way, the '90s was a good decade for some of the best cult classics ever made.
It's hard to hone in on a definitive list of the best '90s cult classics. After all, there are so many fantastic films from this decade to choose from, including underrated gems like 12 Monkeys, Cry-Baby, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Trainspotting, Bottle Rocket, and Reality Bites. However, there are certain movies from the 1990s that have penetrated the zeitgeist more than others. These 90s cult classics are bound to continue appearing on college dorm room posters and remain well-loved by fans into the future.

It’s the next step in the separation of the Starz cable channel/streaming service from the Lionsgate production house.
The effort by Lionsgate to spin off its TV and movie production studio from the cable channel/streaming service Starz has taken its next step. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate has received approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission to spin off its TV and movie studios in a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (Spac), allowing it to continue the process of disentangling itself from Starz and potentially attract new buyers.
The Lionsgate TV and movie studios will merge with Screaming Eagle Acquisition Corp., with the deal likely to close in May. Lionsgate intends to be fully split from Starz by the end of 2024. The change could mean the end of the Starz streaming platform, which may see the rights to its TV and movie library depart with Lionsgate. Save 70% $9.99+ / month starz.

Batman and Star Trek shared many actors, showcasing the crossover appeal of 1960s television. Frank Gorshin's performance as Bele in a Star Trek episode brought depth to the social commentary. Gorshin's versatile acting career spanned various iconic TV shows and films of the era.
Actor and comedian Frank Gorshin may be most recognizable for playing the Riddler in the 1960s Batman series, but he also guest starred in an iconic episode of Star Trek: The Original Series. Batman and Star Trek: The Original Series both began in 1966 and likely appealed to many of the same fans. With its campy and comedic tone, the Batman series of the 1960s depicted a very different version of the character than most modern adaptations of his stories. Nevertheless, Adam West's version of Batman became iconic in his own right, as he fought crime alongside his trusty sidekick Robin (Burt Ward).

The third wave of series in the universe Gene Roddenberry created had a tumultuous start, just like its second wave. In one way, Star Trek: Picard was very similar to The Next Generation era of the saga, because of the revolving door of showrunners.
