The events of the novel begin with the jihad nearly over and the Fremen taking the place of the Sardaukar as the Emperor's army. A conspiracy is underway to eliminate House Atreides and wrest control of the universe away from Paul. Notwithstanding the major deviations in Dune: Part Two, the broad strokes of the film's plot are likely to be the same, given Denis Villeneuve's respect for the source material.
(A note about the above. Although the changes made in Dune: Part Two seriously mess up the timeline and make it harder to reconcile Chani's emotions about Paul with her trying to conceive his child (as is necessary to this plot), he has still been a good deal more respectful to the source material than some directors we will not mention have been to theirs.)
