Exclusive: Independent film distributor to offer a real diamond to UK cinemagoers as part of marketing campaign.

Swipe Films has acquired the UK and Irish rights to The Last Diamond (Le Dernier Diamant) from Other Angle Pictures and All About Them (A Trois on Y Va) from Versatile Films .

Eric Barbier’s The Last Diamond stars Berenice Bejo (The Artist) as a gem expert in charge of auctioning a 137-carat diamond while Yvan Attal plays a con-man.

Swipe is offering a real diamond that has been specially designed for the UK campaign and every cinemagoer who goes to see the film on its opening weekend has a chance to win it.

The acquisition was negotiated by Swipe Films’ Frank Mannion and Other Angle Pictures’ Olivier Albou.

Chairman and CEO Charles S Cohen announced (17) that the company has picked up North American and English-language remake rights to the French thriller.

The film is set to receive its international premiere at Colcoa in Los Angeles on April 25 and opens in France at the end of the month.

Cohen recently partnered with Dreamworks Studios on the remake of French thriller The Prey, which Charles Cohen is producing.

More than 20 companies have already been confirmed as first-time exhibitors at next month’s European Film Market (Efm) in Berlin.

Market debutants from Asia will include Ablaze Image, a new international sales and distribution company based in Taiwan that specialises in Chinese-language features. Ablaze will work from the Taiwan Cinema stand.

Other newcomers from Asia include Japanese producer-distributor Kadokawa Corp; the Malaysian Astro Shaw group of production and distribution companies; Malaysia’s industry-led, government-funded Creative Content Association; and the Indonesian martial arts action production house Skylar Pictures from South Jakarta.

In addition, the Marriott Hotel will serve as a base for the Chinese film and TV production house Beijing Galloping Horse and the Hong Kong-based sales agent One Dollar Distributon whose line-up includes time-travelling action adventure Iceman 3D and the action comedy Hong Kong Undercover Cop.
