Rejoice! The new golden age of animation may yet live! The runaway hit series Star Wars: Visions has been reportedly renewed for a second season due to air later this year on Disney+.
While there has been no official confirmation from Lucasfilm, the wide circulation of the reports as well as the huge popularity of the series should make it no surprise that the Japan-produced animated anthology has a future.
Visions was praised for its originality that stemmed from the episodes taking place entirely outside of the established canon of the main Star Wars continuity. This gave writers an absolute maximum of creative freedom, and boy did they deliver.
With this in mind, let’s take a look back at some of the shorts that are more than deserving of having their little breakaway corner of the galaxy continue in one form or another. Here are four Visions shorts that absolutely need sequels.

Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World is an isekai anime inspired by the Super Sentai and Power Rangers series. The story revolves around Kizuna Red, a Sentai Ranger who is whisked away to another fantasy world after defeating the big bad of their season's show. Red becomes an adventurer in this fantasy world and works alongside Idora, Princess Teltina, and Lowji.
The anime series weaves together isekai genre tropes, such as gratuitous fan service, adventurer ranks, and fish-out-of-water moments, with tokusatsu tropes. But while this is a unique take on the isekai genre, its reliance on tokusatsu tropes makes one wonder why the series was an isekai anime rather than a traditional anime take/adaptation of tokusatsu properties. This is especially true, considering the central Sentai team is leaning heavily on these tropes.

It is a known fact that Castlevania stands as one of the visually stunning vampire series produced by Netflix. From its themes to its characters, it made a mark in the gothic genre. But what carried it wasn’t simply the animation and storytelling but a move that eventually worked in its favor.

Romance anime have become many of fans’ favorite anime over the years. Many of the best series focus on romances that actually have satisfying character arcs. Unfortunately, not every romance anime is as lucky. Several romance anime start off well and have great characters, but get caught up in something along the way. This ultimately throws off their initial momentum and tears down the popularity they once shared.
Most romance anime lack conclusive endings - especially older series. This results in audiences becoming dissatisfied with the story - no matter how good the anime was leading up to the conclusion. Other romance series do not develop the characters well enough or do not allow the romance to naturally evolve. Most of these romance anime could have been some of the best of all time, but they all got in the way of their own success.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a remarkable anime adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077, and Studio Trigger did its absolute best to make it possible. Renowned for their work on anime like Kill La Kill and Delicious in Dungeon, Studio Trigger garnered great praise for their dedication to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The process behind the anime was a collaboration project between the game developers and the anime staff, as explained by the associate game director Pawel Sasko.

One of the most notable anime adaptations of 2024, Dandadan is an explosive, genre-bending shonen adventure that will, without a doubt, go down in history as a modern classic. Produced by studio Science Saru and based on the original manga by Yukinobu Tatsu, Dandadan tells a riveting story that blends science fiction with the occult, romance with high-octane action, and comedy with poignant character drama. Adapting such a kinetic narrative to screen is no easy task. Yet, the Science Saru team did wonders in capturing the unorthodox appeal of Dandadan in their adaptation, elevating the chaotic tale of Momo and Okarun’s adventures to a new level. The individual creators that make up Dandadan’s production team are to credit for the anime’s astounding quality - one of them being renowned anime screenwriter Hiroshi Seko.

An essential part of a superhero's identity is their costume. The color scheme and silhouette of a hero's clothes tell you a lot about them. Batman's black costume fades into the shadows as a dark knight's should, whereas Superman's bright blue and red one speaks to "Truth, Justice, and the American Way."
Who's the comic (anti)hero with the tightest bond to their costume? Venom, of course, for his suit (a dark mirror of Spider-Man) is a living being. The "Venom" movie trilogy leaned in on this, becoming a buddy-romantic comedy between Eddie Brock and the eponymous symbiote alien (both played by Tom Hardy). Yet Venom isn't the only one out there with a living, alien costume. The concept also rears its head in Studio Trigger's 2013 action-comedy anime "Kill la Kill."

For American kids in the early 2000s, Toonami was the best and most iconic way to enjoy action-packed anime series in the comfort of their homes. From beloved classics like Dragon Ball to bizarre series like Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, this segment was the favorite part of the day for young anime fans. The shows selected for Toonami were only the best of the best, with most featuring epic battles and impressive magical abilities.

It's unavoidable that, every now and then, an anime will take the spotlight, as Oshi no Ko did the previous year. This time, however, Dan Da Dan really proved to be a breathtaking adaptation from Science Saru, garnering not only massive viewership but also high praise from audiences. In fact, since its debut, the show has consistently been among Netflix's top ten most popular shows, outperforming the likes of The Diplomat and Love Is Blind.
Naturally, those who have been following the anime since its premiere have been hoping for it to win the Anime of the Year award, demonstrating how well it has lived up to the hype created by the source material. This begs the question of what makes Dan Da Dan so special and why it is being called the best anime to come out in recent months.

Due to intense competition brought on by the debut of new anime series, the anime industry has become extremely competitive in recent years. This competition is to get the most viewers and earn high ratings that would help in the overall success of the series. And in order to do that, the series needs to be proficient in almost every aspect, from animation to storyline.

However, getting proficient in these aspects requires a lot of money and skill, which becomes an important factor. This is why many new anime series and movies have gigantic budgets. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is all the rage with its stunning visuals and animation. The series is based on the Polish video game franchise Cyberpunk 2077. Produced by Trigger, it is one of the top 10 animated series in the Cyberpunk genre.

This article contains serious spoilers for the One Piece manga.
Like many Shonen anime, One Piece frequently makes use of transformation sequences, which greatly enhance a fighters physical stats or even grant them special abilities. More often than not, its the result of a Zoan Devil Fruit, which transforms users into animals or human-animal hybrids. Other times, its a completely different mechanism entirely, such as altering appearances via scientific expertise or engineering skills.
Eiichiro Oda uses the wacky zaniness of his series to his advantage. The greatest One Piece transformations invoke a sense of awe from the viewer. Its the ultimate power-up in a shonen anime. Yamatos divine wolf transformation radiates elegance, while Kaidos massive dragon form appeals to size and strength. Character design-wise, these awesome transformations perfectly convey the users in terms of their personalities and powers.

With all the fantastic anime coming out in the Fall 2024 season, Mecha-Ude: Mechanical Arms may be more overlooked than other shows. However, its unique origin and great animation make it unique. Mecha-Ude is the story of a boy who forges a symbiotic bond with an alien, dragging both of them into conflict. The alien, and most of its kind on earth, looks like a mechanical arm, hence the name of the series. This show uses tried and true tropes to tell a well-polished story.
Mecha-Ude is a passion project, unlike many other shows. Unlike most anime these days, Mecha-Ude didn't start out as a manga. Instead, the series got its start with a Kickstarter funded original net animation (Ona). That spawned a manga and eventually a full series. Mecha-Ude is similar to a good number of other anime, but it takes a new spin on old trends. While audiences may...

Toonami's reputation was founded on bringing retro anime to American audiences with broadcasts of nostalgic classics like Cowboy Bebop and Dragon Ball Z. Now, its new iteration reaffirms that legacy, bringing back a shonen classic to the programming block 10 years after its original broadcast.
Via Toonami Squad, due to debut once more on Nov. 2 at 1 a.m. (Est), Toonami will be introducing fans to the supernatural world of Assiah and the struggles of Rin Okumura. Anime comedy series are perhaps one of the most common genre of anime outside of action series. Almost every anime series involves some degree of comedy, even when it seems at odds with the general tone of the piece, but fully comedic series are sure to let fans know with their goofy, off-the-wall humor.
Anime comedy series often have shorter episodes, particularly for those based on a different style of comic known as 4koma (4 panel comics) than what most manga are. Many of these 4koma will be brought together to form a single episode storyline. They may or may not have actual continuity, and some anime comedy series even take the form of sketch comedy-style shows. Other anime comedies are written just like their action-oriented counterparts, following a complete storyline from start to finish.

With growing popularity of anime, most streaming platforms have updated their catalogue with the availability of the latest anime titles. A single show can be found on different websites, which at first seems like a good thing but isn’t really. Especially when you consider that sometimes a show could be scattered across platforms. Kill la Kill was first released in 2013, and to this day, the anime enjoys a dedicated fanbase and substantial popularity across the world.

Hiroyuki Imaishi is one of the biggest names in anime, helping create some of the most bombastic series of all time. Two of those, Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill , continue to showcase the best in animation even today. To celebrate both, Studio Trigger, Aniplex and Parco are holding a roadshow exhibition in cities across Japan through the end of the year. The first Gurren Lagann vs. Kill la Kill Exhibition stop was Tokyo’s Ikebukuro district, where Crunchyroll News headed to the Parco Factory and do the impossible by checking the exhibition out. Row, Row, Fight the Power The exhibit first opened with a room showcasing Gurren Lagann , whose first episode premiered over 17 years ago on April 1, 2007. That age was apparent with the original key animation, not duplicates or reproductions, on display at the exhibition, complete with crumpled corners, coffee stains and even some stray line art that would usually be fixed up.

Are you folks all enjoying the most delightfully strange show of the season? In case you haven’t heard, Train to the End of the World has been offering a weekly slice of absurdity in a world gone mad, with its heroines traveling from one wildly jumbled town to the next in the wake of the 7G-prompted quasi-apocalypse. It’s got a charming cast, an absolute bounty of ridiculous ideas, and a snappiness of execution that somehow binds all these variables together. It’s the kind of show that feels like it would be almost impossible to get right, and if so, only through lucky chance — that is, so long as you’re not familiar with its brilliant director. Tsutomu Mizushima is far from the flashiest director working in modern anime. His work doesn’t tend to possess clear visual signatures, a consistency of aesthetic and tone that makes it...

Anime dubs have always been a point of debate among fans. Most consider them an unquestionable part of the medium. Series adapted for local consumption are always adapted for their local language, and it ultimately shouldnt impact a potential fans ability to enjoy a series. But for a minority, dubs are seen as a qualitative massacre of their original work. The original Japanese version of an anime is the way it was first created, and therefore the best way it's meant to be seen. Sometimes, but not always, these vocal few can be correct.

Kingdom of Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball and Studio Trigger co-founder Hiroyuki Imaishi have playfully mused on the idea of a collaborative Planet of the Apes anime series at Disney.
Imaishi and Ball sat for an interview with Japanese outlet The River earlier this month. Ball noted similarities between Gurren Lagann's Simon and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' Noah, before then commenting on the difficulty of trimming content for a film. "But with an anime series," he said, "you can take your time and draw things. A movie is two hours long, so even if you try to cram everything in, it's not that easy. I'd love to try a series." Imaishi responded, "Planet of the Apes is a fascinating series that seems like it could do a lot of different things if it were made into a TV series." The interviewer then suggested collaborating...
