The man responsible for the Kyoto Animation arson, Shinji Aoba, has been formally sentenced to death for his act.
Nhk provided live coverage of Aoba's widely anticipated sentencing, in which it was revealed that 409 people requested to attend the trial out of 23 available seats. In a break from convention, the judge read out the reasoning behind the guilty verdict first, without revealing that Aoba had been sentenced to death. The main focus of recent court trials in this case was to verify whether Aoba was of sound mind to be held responsible for the arson, in which he killed 36 people. The judge found him sufficiently competent, and shortly after 4 p.m. Jst, Aoba was sentenced to death. The families of the victims will not appeal, and Aoba's defense team did not state whether they would.

Anime has some of the coolest and most creative weapons of any medium. While shonen anime is the first type that normally comes to mind when thinking of weapons and a large portion of anime's best-designed weapons hail from shonen series, there are others from seinen and fantasy anime, as well.
Forgotten 2000s Anime You Watched But Can't Remember the Name Of
Some of anime's coolest weapons are incredibly large and imposing, like Soul's scythe form from Soul Eater being larger than its wielder, or Nicholas D. Wolfwood's human-sized cross from Trigun. Others are unassuming everyday items, like guitars or notebooks, that surprisingly make for some of the most deadly weapons in their respective universes.

Anime reboots can sometimes be far-fetched ideas since a studio would rather make a new anime series based on a popular manga than produce a completely new version of an already poorly regarded one. If it were so simple, we could have a slew of much-needed reboots, such as Tokyo Ghoul and Rosario Vampire. The good news is that Rurouni Kenshin, a classic anime series that, despite a few shortcomings, emerged as one of the best anime shows, is getting a remake this year.
Even though the Rurouni Kenshin franchise has spanned an anime series with 94 episodes and a highly successful live-action movie series that ended in 2021 with Rurouni Kenshin: Final Chapter Part II - The Beginning, it is planning to deliver fans with another intriguing one with a rebooted version of the original.

After nearly four years, the Kyoto Animation arson case will end in January 2024 after the arsonist's verdict is delivered.
As per Crunchyroll, the Kyoto District Court announced they will give a verdict to Shinji Aoba, the 41-year-old who walked into the Kyoto Animation studios in 2019 and set it aflame, killing 36 people, on Jan. 25, 2024. Aoba will also face the court for the first time on Sept. 5 after undergoing two psych evaluations, one from the prosecution and one from the defense, to determine his mental capacity to stand trial. The pre-trial proceedings began on May 8, where the court, prosecution and defense confirmed the schedule and duration for the main trial. A previous report stated the trial may end in late December 2023.

August has been a great month for Netflix so far, most notably thanks to the addition of plenty of classic films that will stoke the flames of nostalgia for many subscribers. You could sit down and watch the entire Jurassic Park trilogy, check out the often forgotten Adam Sandler comedy Mr. Deeds, watch Mel Gibson’s road rage in Mad Max, or have a few laughs with the quirky time travel romance Safety Not Guaranteed.
But as usual, Netflix isn’t content to rest on its laurels, and today marks a substantial content drop for the service that is adding plenty of new movies and shows. The even better news, however, is that quite a lot of it is stuff you’re not going to want to miss.
The biggest title dropping today is Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Project Power. This unusual take on the superhero genre deals...

The deal gives Quail and Fawcett full control of the group’s Us, Australian and New Zealand operations while Dave Cole, managing director of post house Two Dogs.TV, regains a minority stake.
“It’s been a very distracting time. We’re looking forward to getting back to business and making TV shows,” Quail told If today.
Emg was formed by the merger of Australia’s Essential Media and Entertainment, Fawcett’s La- based 11 Television, Quail Entertainment Us and the North American joint venture Essential Quail Television (Eqtv).
Jesse Fawcett.
Canada’s Kew Media bought Emg in 2018 for $32.8 million, $20 million in cash and the balance in shares.
The Toronto-based media conglomerate collapsed in February and Fti Consulting Canada was appointed to sell its assets to repay creditors.

Chris Hilton.
Essential Media co-founder and CEO Chris Hilton has quit following a restructure and cost cutting program at the group’s Australian and New Zealand business.
Greg Quail, formerly the firm’s chief content officer/executive producer, has replaced Hilton as CEO in charge of operations spanning North America and Australasia.
There have been six redundancies in the Sydney office including Sadhana Jethanandani, head of production, Australia/ Nz, head of marketing Denise Anderson, two legal and two admin staff.
Brendan Dahill, who joined as general manager for Australia/Nz last October continues in that post. So do head of non-scripted David Alrich, VP scripted Michelle Hardy and Sam Griffin, who joined recently as head of documentaries and specialist factual.
The restructure was flagged last week by the group’s Canadian parent Kew Media, which blamed the under-performance of Essential’s Australian business for an overall 5.3 per cent drop in...

When people alerted me about the two Beyond the Boundary anime feature films, telling me they were pretty good, I got interested, and wanted to check out the anime series first. Well, lo and behold: Sentai Filmworks recently released one of their super-pimped Limited editions for the series! being the magpie I am, and spotting the box for a hefty discount, I ordered it, and it has arrived. After the unbelievably lavish releases for Knights of Sidonia and especially Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions, I kinda knew what to expect, or (rather) hope for. And thankfully Sentai Filmworks did not disappoint me: their Beyond the Boundary set fits right in with the others. The series itself is enjoyable if not exactly groundbreaking, and you might...
