Tanabata no Kuni

This series presents a great mix of human drama and mystery. The ways of the traditional village might be there own downfall even though the power has in the past protected the land they hold dear. The conflict between the one with great power and the old ways is at the heart of this, and each layer of mystery peels back a new mystery. The human drama is the push of this and so you must connect to the people. Everyone's choices seem to make sense and everyone's motives seem clear... well almost - with the main "villain" not being the one with the clear agenda. I can't wait for a s2 that I hope they make!

Uneven plotting, poor character development and multiple infodumps leading to an unsatisfying ending that really resolves little. Multiple B plots and characters discarded on the way.

Having a lead character as a well intentioned idiot muddle his way through ten episodes of intermittent gore without really driving any action is simply poor writing. Female characters mostly relegated to polite frustration. Anything they achieve is simply overshadowed by an elusive character showing up and dumping information. You may as well be asking your phone what is going on at each stage.

Points given for attention to detail in SFX.

The trailer looked interesting, but it unfortunately wasn't. Things drag and the pacing is so bad. You get little tidbits of the real story in each episode, which are almost an hour long, and fluff the rest of the time. You don't get invested in the characters who are also boring to see interact. Some things also don't make a lot of sense. This is probably a better read or better as an anime cause it'd have a better director and scripts done for 22 minute episodes. I quit after ep 4 cause was becoming a chore to watch. I recommend the live action Parasyte instead or Sweet Home. Don't waste your time.

There are tons and tons of good reviews online, but I honestly don't get them at all. The pace is so slow for totally nothing. The story seemed to be interesting at first, and they tried to make it seems like it was going to be a complex story, but then when the big reveal came, it became so dull I was honestly quite pissed. There is nothing good about the script and story, but I guess if you are into the gory scenes, you may enjoy it.

I don't usually leave a review, but this one is just so bad. The acting was okay but the story and the dialogue were so repetitive like the characters were talking about the same stuff over and over in each episode that makes it a hot mess. Don't waste your time guys, I rather go play with the grass then watch this tbh.
