Intro: Is man indeed a walrus at heart? That’s the question Kevin Smith sought to answer with his 2014 horror film Tusk, a wild and weird movie that was inspired by a hoax classified ad and workshopped on a podcast. It features an insane Michael Parks, a scenery-chewing Johnny Depp, a walrus-human hybrid, and it’s the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw.
Creators / Cast: Filmmakers are often asked how they get their ideas. Tusk is a rare case where a filmmaker’s fans were able to hear the exact moment when inspiration struck. On June 25th, 2013, Kevin Smith sat down with his longtime friend and producer Scott Mosier to record an episode of their podcast, episode 259 of Smodcast, to be exact, and one of the things Smith decided to talk about on the show was a classified ad that had been brought to his attention. It was posted on...

Season 2 of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday started filming in Ireland last May and is now making its way through post-production – and series star Jenna Ortega says that when the new season starts streaming, we can expect to see a lot of horror references in its episodes. There will even be an episode based on slasher movies!
Wednesday comes to us from Millar Gough Ink, Tim Burton Productions, Toluca Pictures, and MGM Television, and is described as a comedic, supernaturally-infused coming-of-age series that follows the teenage girl’s years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the town, and solve a mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new relationships at Nevermore. When initially announced that J Balvin would be doing the voice of Tusk in the English version of Solo Leveling, fans were worried. The globally renowned reggaeton artist had never done voice acting for anime previously, so his casting was unexpected. While the promotional push behind his involvement suggested it was going to be a major selling point, the reality of his performance told a different story.

Some of the fans struggled even to understand the lines of Tusk in the dub, leading to widespread complaints. Even some of the experienced dub watchers had to put on closed captions. Rather than raising the dub, J Balvin’s performance turned out to be one of its greatest flaws, leading to discussions about how Solo Leveling‘s English version could recover from the damage.

Fans have finally got to see Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice after a wait of 36 years. Michael Keaton returned as the chaotic bio-exorcist with Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara.
In the sequel, Lydia Deetz is now a mother with her own paranormal talk show, and she has to deal with the ghost who has returned.

At the same time, Johnny Depp, who had worked with Burton, was rumored to return to acting. This sequel had fans in high spirits because after a legal battle, Depp was coming back to work, and Burton was also sort of reviving his career. The expectations were high that both would work together in this sequel.

The following contains spoilers for Solo Leveling Season 2, Episode 6, "Don't Look Down on My Guys" and the manhwa.
While Solo Leveling began as Sung Jinwoo’s individual rise to power, everything changed with the introduction of his Shadow Army in Season 1’s finale. Now, Jinwoo has an ever-increasing horde of Shadow Soldiers at his disposal, each with a unique personality that makes a few of them stand-out in particular. The most recognizable (in part due to his prominence in the anime so far) is Igris, but he’s far from the only memorable Shadow Soldier fans have come to know and love. After all, no discussion of Jinwoo's Sharow Soldiers is complete without mention of Beru, who has come to be viewed as the “best girl” of the series by manhwa readers due to an undying love for Jinwoo hinging on obsessive.
Beru and Igris will always be standouts of the series,...

More than 30 years after Madonna: Truth or Dare, the documentary still has a hold on LGBTQ pop music and cinema.

Lily-Rose Depp’s Oscar snub for her brilliant performance in Nosferatu has enraged some fans. However, these fans seem to forget that her father Johnny Depp waited for two decades before he could get his first Academy nomination. Depp’s first of three nominations came in 2004 for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the first Pirates of the Caribbean film.

A24 has become one of the leading producers in horror over the past decade. Most recently, their horror film Heretic succeeded at the box office and among critics, scoring an impressive 91% Tomatometer. The central Heretic performance by Hugh Grant has also garnered attention at awards ceremonies, earning the actor nominations at the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards. 2024 also saw the release of other A24 horror films including Y2K, The Front Room, MaXXXine, and I Saw The TV Glow.
But even before last year, A24 has been cultivating directorial talents in the horror genre for years. They were the distributor behind The Witch, for example, a film that would go on to make stars out of both director Robert Eggers and actor Anya Taylor-Joy. The company added other indie auteurs to its growing list of directorial collaborators, including Clerks helmer Kevin Smith, who directed their wacky 2014 horror film Tusk. Another director...

Lily-Rose Depp reveals which Johnny Depp's movie scared her the most as a child. As the daughter of the actor who famously portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and French singer and actor Vanessa Paradis, Depp grew up immersed in culture, art and cinema, splitting her time between the US and France. She would make her acting debut with Kevin Smith's Tusk before going on to star in everything from Netflix's The King to HBO's The Idol.

From other zombie comedies like Shaun of the Dead to other Jim Jarmusch-directed absurdist horror films like Only Lovers Left Alive, there are a ton of great movies like The Dead Don’t Die to check out. Now streaming on Netflix, The Dead Don’t Die tackles the familiar setup of a small-town zombie invasion in a completely unfamiliar way. As usual, the local cops are tasked with fending off the undead, but this movie has cops that know they’re in a movie, a zombie-slaying samurai played by Tilda Swinton, and a hefty dose of Jarmusch’s signature deadpan humor.
There’s no other movie quite like The Dead Don’t Die — it’s a very unique cinematic experiment — but there are movies with similar tones and styles. There are other movies that take a quirky comedic approach to a zombie apocalypse, like Life After Beth. There are other horror films with a refreshingly offbeat voice,...

Lily-Rose Depp has no desire to be famous and will do anything to protect her privacy.
The actress, daughter of Johnny Depp and French singer and model Vanessa Paradis, has recently carved a place for herself in Hollywood, thanks to her roles in HBO’s The Idol and director Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu. However, she recently opened up to The Daily Telegraph about the importance of preserving her anonymity in this industry.
“Every job comes with a set of circumstances and this [fame] is kind of one of them,” she explained. “The importance to me has been to maintain a sense of, like, privacy and grounded-ness and to protect [what] really belongs to you.”

Nosferatu's story revolves around Lily-Rose Depp's tormented protagonist. The actor said one book served as her personal Bible in the film.
Lily-Rose Depp revealed the reason her performance in Nosferatu is so compelling. Her character Ellen Hutter is simultaneously enticed and oppressed by Count Orlok, an insidious presence that intrudes into her very being. In an interview with IndieWire, Depp said director Robert Eggers inspired her to dabble in occult material, enough to ensure she's mentally and emotionally prepared for her scenes. "That was quite pertinent for me," she confirmed. "I used that kind of like a Bible and found myself reading it again and again as we were shooting." That influence helped in close-up shots without dialogue, or in moments that had her writhing in ecstatic pain.

With only a little over a month left in the year 2024, there isn't much in the way of new releases left to be excited about. However, one particular standout this winter season is Nosferatu, director Robert Eggers' long-awaited re-imagining of the classic horror film. Set to be released in theaters this coming Christmas, early industry screenings have already hailed the film as a masterpiece, with one particular draw being Lily-Rose Depp as the lead character Ellen Hutter, who, based on the trailers, develops a sort of twisted relationship with Bill Skarsgrd's Count Orlok/Nosferatu. As it turns out, working with Eggers has been on the actor's bucket list, along with a few other well-known "auteur" directors.
In a profile piece for Vanity Fair, Depp briefly mentioned how Eggers was on her "bucket list" of filmmakers. When asked to name other creatives who were on the list, the actor dropped plenty of notable names,...

You can call Lily-Rose Depp a nepo baby all you want, but just know that when you do, youre encouraging her to work even harder to prove she belongs in Hollywood. As the daughter of Johnny Depp, she said she's dealt with these criticisms her entire career, yet through it all shes managed to remain humble. Depp stars alongside Bill Skarsgrd and Nicholas Hoult in Robert Eggers' Nosferatu, which is set to open nationwide on Dec. 25.
Speaking with Vanity Fair about her life and career, Depp was asked if shes struggled with insecurity since she entered the business 10 years ago with her first feature film role in Kevin Smiths Tusk. One would assume the answer would be obvious, since every actor at some point has had to deal with "impostor syndrome," but for Depp, she dug a little deeper in her response, saying that each new role feels like a reset for her.

Ahead of the premiere of “The Night Agent” Season 2, Genesis Rodriguez could soon be joining Season 3.
Variety has learned from sources that Rodriguez is currently in talks for a role in Season 3, which was formally ordered at Netflix back in October. Exact character details are currently under wraps.
Reps for Netflix declined to comment.
This would be the latest spy thriller show in which Rodriguez will star. She currently appears in Season 2 of the Paramount+ series “Lioness” and recently starred in the Kevin Smith feature “The 4:30 Movie.” Her other recent credits include the shows “Neon,” “The Umbrella Academy,” “Time After Time,” and “Big Hero 6: The Series,” while her film credits include “Tusk,” “Casa de mi Padre,” “Man on a Ledge,” and “Run All Night.”
She is repped by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Director Kevin Smith clarifies new comments about an unexpected follow-up to his successful $43 million 1999 comedy classic. Smith rose to prominence as a wunderkind director who wrote, directed, produced, and edited his debut movie Clerks, based on the day-to-day lives of New Jersey store clerks. Shot for $27,575 in the convenience and video stores where Smith worked in real life, the movie was bought by Miramax, who spent an additional $230,000 on editing and music licensing. The movie was released theatrically in 1994 and became a success, grossing $4.4 million, and launching Smith's career, and spawning two Clerks sequels.
Considered one of the most influential figures in American independent cinema of the 1990s, Smith went on to have a checkered, but largely successful career, directing financially successful movies such as Chasing Amy and Cop Out, as well as box office bombs like Jersey Girl and Yoga Hosers. In later years Smith's filmography pivoted from comedy into movies containing darker elements,...

Singer/songwriter Lady Gaga didn’t have anything to do with the first season of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday, but when video clips of Jenna Ortega’s “Goo Goo Muck” dance scene went viral, many fans replaced The Cramps’ song “Goo Goo Muck” with a sped-up version of Lady Gaga’s song “Bloody Mary.” So Wednesday and Lady Gaga have been connected for a while now – and that connection is going to be deepened with the now-in-production season 2, as Deadline reports that Lady Gaga has been added to the cast of the show! Details on the character she’ll be playing have not been revealed.

Nerdly’s interviewer extraordinaire fills a bucket list dream by sitting down and chatting with one of his all-time favourite directors Kevin Smith about his new flick The 4:30 Movie – a love letter to the glory days of the cinema.
Kevin Smith is an American director, producer, writer, and actor. He came to prominence with the low-budget comedy buddy film Clerks (1994), which he wrote, directed, co-produced, and acted in as the character Silent Bob of stoner duo Jay and Silent Bob, characters who also appeared in Smith’s later films Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Clerks II (2006), Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019), and Clerks III (2022) which are set primarily in his home state of New Jersey. While Kevin Smith might be known for View Askewniverse classics such as Clerks, Mallrats, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, hes also been known to dabble in horror from time to time. 2011s Red State was his first foray into the genre, and while that one was a straight-up thrill ride, Tusk and Yoga Hosers crossed the line into horror-comedy territory. From the sound of it, Smith is ready to give things another try based on comments he made on a recent episode of his Fat Man Beyond podcast.

Kevin Smith has announced a new horror movie hes writing, and it marks the perfect return to the genre that has delivered some of his best and most underrated films. Smith recently released a new episode of his podcast Fat Man Beyond to promote the digital release of his latest film, The 4:30 Movie, a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age comedy set in the 80s. During the four-and-a-half-hour podcast, in which Smith broke the record for longest Fat Man Beyond episode to date, he teased the next screenplay hes working on.
Smiths next movie is a new Jay and Silent Bob movie, Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars, in which Jay and Bob get into an intense business rivalry with a fellow weed dispensary. Kevin Smith has released a never-before-seen, behind-the-scenes video from his breakout film, Clerks. The 1994 comedy follows convenience store employee Dante (Brian OHalloran) and video store worker Randall (Jeff Anderson) as they deal with the minutia of day-to-day convenience store life, as well as coping with the likes of drug dealers Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith). Clerks was a hit with critics and audiences alike, launching Smith's career as a filmmaker, and creating a body of work that has lasted for three decades.
The video, posted to Smiths YouTube channel, starts with a montage of the director slating a series of shots with the clapperboard, followed by a series of outtakes, bloopers, and unused takes. The footage also includes shots of the original ending, in which the convenience store is robbed, and Dante is shot and killed. There was a spin-off called SiREN in 2016, then the franchise went dormant for a few years… before being revived by the Shudder streaming service, which has had great success delivering a new V/H/S movie every year. Nosferatu is the 2024 remake of the 1922 vampire movie by director Robert Eggers, with a star-studded cast helping bring it to life. The December 25 release date of Nosferatu makes Christmas Day one with a particular bite rather than the expected dose of yuletide joy. Anticipation for the movie was always high, primarily due to the previously-acclaimed movies of Robert Eggers.
However, another element that raised excitement for Nosferatu was the remake's cast. Following a similar character structure to the original 1922 Nosferatu, 2024's version brings a new batch of actors to the screen as those surrounding the titular vampire. With upcoming vampire movies making somewhat of a resurgence for the genre, Nosferatu led the way as a compelling remake of a beloved classic, complete with a talented director and a cast of Hollywood actors whose reputation precedes them.

The V/H/S franchise started in 2012 and fizzled out after three entries, but Shudder’s relaunch in 2021 proved popular enough to make a new anthology horror flick a yearly October tradition. This year’s release, V/H/S/Beyond, is incredibly refreshing, taking the franchise in a very different direction to exciting and gripping results.
V/H/S/Beyond Review
While the past few entries of V/H/S have all been centered around a specific year, Beyond is (for the most part) focused on sci-fi and aliens. While it’s less of a unique concept — there have been plenty of sci-fi/horror anthologies — the team of filmmakers that have been assembled for V/H/S/Beyond has knocked it out of the park, delivering one of the best entries not just in the franchise but in the genre as a whole.

Fans looking for a spiritual successor to Tusk may be in luck. Justin Long returns to the horror stage, this time in the director's chair for his segment in the upcoming V/H/S Beyond. The new film is the seventh in the anthology horror series, and Long is directing his own short, entitled Fur Babies. Joined by his brother, Christian, Long will expose the world to another film in the genre that made him a cult horror icon. Before appearing in the wildly inventive Zach Cregger film Barbarian, Long gained fame for ventures in Jeepers Creepers, Drag Me To Hell, and yes Tusk. The Kevin Smith film turned Long into a visual no one should have to see, and now the actor is taking up the mantle. Christian Long teased what to expect in a conversation with Entertainment Weekly.

In 2015, writer, director and podcaster Kevin Smith was lucky enough to play a voice in a Star Wars film, but Smith admitted he wasnt sure which stormtrooper he actually voiced. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Smith talked about doing voice work in J.J. Abrams The Force Awakens.

It's incredibly hard to keep a franchise fresh when it's been around for more than a decade headed into its seventh installment. But a couple of missteps aside, the "V/H/S" franchise has done a remarkable job of keeping things fresh over the years. I'm pleased as punch to report that "V/H/S/Beyond" isn't just taking the ball and running with it — it may well have set a new high bar for the series.
The seventh installment overall and the follow-up to last year's "V/H/S/85," this new entry takes things "Beyond" by giving every one of the six segments a sci-fi hook. Season 2 of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday has been filming in Ireland since May, and Netflix has just unveiled a video that gives a glimpse behind the scenes. In the process, they have also confirmed that the new batch of episodes will premiere sometime in 2025. Among the cast and crew members seen in the video are, of course, star Jenna Ortega, as well as director Tim Burton – and during a chat with Collider, Al Gough (who created this series with Miles Millar) revealed that Burton is directing half of season 2, which is the same thing he did for the first season. That means Burton is at the helm of four of the season’s eight episodes.

The following contains spoilers for The 4:30 Movie, which is currently in a limited theatrical run.
Fans of podcaster, writer and director Kevin Smith usually know what to expect from his movies. Snappy dialogue, dirty jokes, pop culture references and what can only be described "Stoner Humor." However, this is not exactly what they'll get from his latest directorial effort The 4:30 Movie, filmed at Smith's childhood movie theater (which he now co-owns). Set in the summer of 1986, Smith's coming-of-age film centers around a group of friends as they grow up together and bond over their shared love of film.
Perhaps best known for Clerks and the characters Jay and Silent Bob, films in Smith's oeuvre all embrace a specific tone and style. His most recent efforts, Clerks III and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot can easily be identified -- lovingly or derisively, depending on one's view of the filmmaker...

From Jason Lee to Justin Long to Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith has brought back a bunch of his regular collaborators to appear in the cast of his latest film, The 4:30 Movie. Shot in Smiths own movie theater, Smodcastle Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands, The 4:30 Movie is his most personal film in years. Its a coming-of-age comedy about a group of teenagers theater-hopping across a single day in the 1980s.
Like Wes Anderson and Martin Scorsese, Smith is known for working with the same actors over and over again. Part of that is because most of his films take place in an interconnected universe, the View Askewniverse, so a lot of actors play the same characters across different movies. But even his non-Askewniverse films, like The 4:30 Movie, have brought in frequent collaborators like Kate Micucci and Diedrich Bader.

Thirty years ago, Kevin Smith burst into the world of independent filmmaking in a blaze of glorious serendipity that nobody could replicate if they tried. Self-financed for less than $30,000 and shot entirely in the convenience store where he worked, the original “Clerks” was an electrifying mix of slacker wit and utter absurdism at a time when putting pop culture-obsessed male mediocrity on the big screen felt like a genuinely novel concept. Even after double digit viewings, the film still feels like a pitch-perfect punk rock farce that can make even the most discerning cinephile laugh out loud more than it has any right to.
None of Smith’s subsequent work caught that kind of lightning in a bottle, but quite a few of his early films were close enough to the original high to be watchable. “Mallrats” is a passable ’90s comedy, “Chasing Amy” is a clever character study anchored...

This list doesn’t represent everything Smith has done; you won’t find movies he did uncredited rewrites on (like Overnight Delivery) or wrote for someone else to direct (Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie), or even the segment he contributed to the anthology horror film Holidays. For this list, we’re only covering the features that had him at the helm. And here we go…

From 2019 to 2024, Evil sent its central characters into one terrifying situation after another. One of the best parts of the show was the ambiguity around demons, angels and the like. Yet, some of Evil's scariest episodes were when humans were the ones behind whatever horror the characters investigated. Originally debuting on the CBS network and then moving to streaming for Season 2, Evil was The X-Files if Mulder and Scully were backed by the Catholic Church instead of the Federal government and Mulder was a priest.
The series focused on four central characters, the "demonic assessors" for St. Joseph's Church in New York. David Acosta (Mike Colter) was a seminarian and leader of the team. Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) was the scientist and technology expert as well as an atheist. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) was a psychiatrist and lapsed Catholic who evaluated the possessed medically and also loved David. Lastly,...

Jeepers Creepers (2001) is a legendary film in the canon of beloved horror classics. It follows Darry and Trish, a brother and sister on a road trip home from college through the country roads of rural north Florida. The siblings witness a suspicious incident and go on to encounter a violent and terrifying creature that stalks them throughout the film. Known locally only as the Creeper, this grotesque, winged monster emerges every 23 years to harvest body parts of victims that it uses to sustain itself, and the siblings race to escape the relentless pursuit of the supernatural creature. Although the film garnered a mixed response upon its release with some critics citing its slow pacing and reliance upon genre clichs it has gone on to gather a cult following and become an iconic entry in the library of horror films.
Featuring an incredible performance as the Creeper by Jonathan Breck, Jeepers Creepers...

A24's upcoming horror film The Front Room looks to end the critically acclaimed studio record. Directed by Max and Sam Eggers, the brothers of acclaimed filmmaker Sam Eggers, The Front Room stars Brandy as Belinda, a pregnant woman who discovers that her stepmother-in-law Solange (Kathryn Hunter) is working her way to manipulate her stepson and take the baby from the young family for her own sinister means. A24 has earned a reputation for redefining the horror genre in the 21st century with films like Talk to Me, Heriditerary, and even Robert Egger's The Witch, so there was a certain level of expectation for The Front Room to deliver another critically acclaimed horror film.
That does not seem to be the case as Max and Sam Eggers's debut feature film will not match their older brother Robert Eggers. The initial Rotten Tomatoes score for The Front Room was revealed at 46%, with thirteen reviews.
