Deep Fake Neighbour Wars review: This rage-baiting show isn’t funny or weird enough
Image
Idris Elba! Kim Kardashian! Ariana Grande! Greta Thunberg! Rihanna! Adele! The cast list of ITV’s new comedy is impeccable. It would be right up there with Glengarry Glen Ross or Pulp Fiction if it weren’t for one snag: those famous faces appear only via deep fake technology, which super-imposes their beloved features onto the profiles of actors (who are doing middling vocal impressions of them). This is the world of Deep Fake Neighbour Wars, a show that mixes comedy and technology with as much success as Dave Chapelle welcoming Elon Musk as his warm-up act.

It’s essentially a mockumentary version of naff reality TV, like Nasty Neighbours and Fear Thy Neighbor. Petty domestic disputes that escalate into violence. The twist here is that the participants have the faces (and names) of well-known celebrities. They don’t, however, have the careers of those celebrities, and they only possess...

Gabrielle Union, Julianne Hough Out at ‘America’s Got Talent’ (Exclusive)
Gabrielle Union
Judges Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough are vacating their chairs on NBC’s unscripted series “America’s Got Talent,” Variety can report exclusively.

Union, an NAACP Image award winner and prolific film and TV presence, joined the panel this year with Hough. An NBC spokesperson confirmed that the pair will not return for the 2020 season. Representatives for Union and Hough did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Union and Hough had replaced longtime judges Melanie Brown (Spice Girls) and model-host Heidi Klum for the show’s 14th season.

FX Orders Snowfall To Series For 2017
FX has announced a new series, Snowfall, ordered to series, and it sounds at first glance like something right in the network’s wheelhouse.

Snowfall — Pictured: Damson Idris as Franklin Saint. Cr: Michael Yarish/FX. Copyright 2016, FX Networks. All rights reserved.

A show that focuses on the infancy of the cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles during the early ’80s is probably enough to raise interest, but this telling mixes in some very interesting characters as our entry into this world. From a young street entrepreneur looking for power (Damson Idris), to a Mexican wrestler who finds himself at odds with a crime family (Sergio Peris-Mencheta), to a CIA operative with a lot of problems bearing down on him (Carter Hudson), this isn’t going to be your normal take on looking at a new drug problem.

The show is executive produced by an eclectic group with some big wins behind them (Justified,...

Eddie Murphy in Le Flic de Beverly Hills : Axel F. (2024)
Beverly Hills Cop 4 Gets New Directors, Eddie Murphy Still on Board
Eddie Murphy in Le Flic de Beverly Hills : Axel F. (2024)
If all would have went according to Paramount's original plan, fans would have already seen Beverly Hills Cop 4 in theaters, since the studio set a March 25, 2016 release date for the long-awaited sequel back in 2014. However, last May, the studio pulled the movie from its 2016 slot, where it would have faced the superhero blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so it could continue developing the sequel, which has Eddie Murphy set to return as Axel Foley. Today we finally have a new update on Beverly Hills Cop 4, with the studio bringing aboard filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Black) to direct.

Deadline reports that producer Jerry Bruckheimer and star Eddie Murphy have been diligently developing the script by Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows). When they met with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, they learned how important the Beverly Hills Cop franchise truly was to the filmmakers. This project would mark a huge step up for the them, whose last project Black won the Discovery Award at last year's Toronto International Film Festival.

While no story details have been confirmed yet, we reported back in 2014 that the sequel was set to be shot in Detroit, to take advantage of a $13.5 million tax rebate. This new report claims the story will bring Axel Foley back to his Detroit origins, with the studio hoping to start production either later this year or in early 2017. Paramount hasn't set a release date at this time, but it's possible the sequel could be ready for release in late 2017, if everything goes according to plan.

The story reportedly is set during the worst winter on record in Detroit, with the studio still planning on shooting in and around the Detroit area. It isn't known if there are plans to bring back original Beverly Hills Cop stars Judge Reinhold, John Ashton or Paul Reiser for the sequel, but now that the sequel finally has directors on board, hopefully we'll hear more about this sequel soon. The first three Beverly Hills Cop movies have taken in over $735 million worldwide, with the first movie's $234.7 domestic take holding the record for decades as the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time, before The Hangover broke that mark with $277.3 million in 2009.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah made their directorial debut in 2014 with Image, which they followed up last year with Black, neither of which have been distributed in the U.S. quite yet. Brett Ratner was once attached to direct this sequel, but it isn't known if he will stay on as a producer or not. We'll be sure to keep you posted with more updates on Beverly Hills Cop 4 as soon as more information comes in.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 Elects New Directors In Adil El Arbi And Bilall Fallah
Axel Foley is headed back to Detroit, it seems. Deadline is reporting today that Beverly Hills Cop 4 is officially back on again at Paramount, after electing new directors in Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

It’s certainly the most promising news to emerge from the action-comedy sequel in some time, particularly after it was delayed indefinitely at the studio last year. Now, Paramount has pumped fresh blood into the dormant Beverly Hills Cop series, entrusting relative newcomers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah with the keys to the cult franchise.

And we do mean newcomers. As Deadline notes, the Belgian writer-directors broke onto the scene with Image and later edgy thriller Black, the latter of which bagged El Arbi and Fallah the Discovery Award at last year’s Toronto Film Festival.

It was enough to pique the attention of both Eddie Murphy and longtime producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who reportedly showered praise on Black when it premiered late last year. Despite some early apprehension, Murphy is on board to reprise his role as the gun-toting, irreverent Axel Foley, and by plucking El Arbi and Fallah, the actor has ensured the up-and-coming Belgian filmmakers are headed straight into big-budget production with Beverly Hills Cop 4. But will it prove to be a gamble that pays off?

So, there you have it: Beverly Hills Cop 4 has recruited new Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to pump a healthy dose of “youthful energy” into its dormant actioner. There’s currently no mention of when the sequel will step before the cameras, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.

Long-time Films Distribution sales agent Pamela Leu has launched her own Brussels-based sales company, Be for Films.

The company will provide some initial back office support while Leu rolls out her first independent slate at Cannes.

Be for Films is the only fully-fledged sales company based within Belgian borders, although state-backed organisations like Wallonie Bruxelles Image and Flanders Image do a lot of promotional work for local productions.
