Not for the scrutinizing viewer

The plot has a basic missing child desperation and rage basis. Good fodder for the action junkie who doesn't care about authenticity or realism. If you wait for cinematography that contains outdoor adventure or sweeping scenery, it doesn't happen. Most of the story happens in the same building, much of which consists of windowless walls. The English dubbing over foreign actors lack of lip sync is easy to get past and better than subtitles. U. S. Marines with full beards and 70 year old medals makes it kind of a joke early on for those of us who scrutinize such things. The protocol at a US foreign embassy was a bit ridiculous and at this point I was losing my enthusiasm. The new release hype draws you in with higher hopes than they deliver.

I watched for Lera Abova but stayed for Jeanne Goursand

Checking out this movie to see Lera who will star in One Piece and I wasn't disappointed with her supporting role here now on to the main movie... it's not bad at all? Slow start but it flows quickly after.

I read some reviews so I was prepped to watch some unrealistic fight scenes but honestly I think they did good with grounding it. Jeanne Goursand has a fit body compared to Gal Gadot who played Wonder Woman but didn't have the muscles for it. Jeanne isn't so muscular but is well defined so I can believe she can fight. While she fought several times through the course of the film she never really fought too many at a time and honestly she always just barely wins. Girl was black and bruised each time so I applaud them for it. She's not superwoman downing her opponent with no issue.

Now the plot itself is predictable this isn't rocket science. We've seen movies like this already a parent out to save their child. So yeah that's out of the way don't look for anything deep in here. There's some questionable moments some are answered in the end but some are meh. Acting is okay overall it's not something they'll win awards for but they worked for this kind of film.

So overall if you're just in it for the action and simpleness I think you'll have a fun time. There's a lot of movement during fight scenes which I really liked. It gave that fluid feel to it. They're not shy with the blood and making it messy. I had a good time with this.

Something wrong at the very beginning

I cannot accept this movie's premise as it is. We know that this single-parent mom, a German white woman, a former Special Forces soldier, loves her son so much after her husband died. We can understand how she loves her son. But at the very beginning of this movie, this supposedly well-trained, very lethal Special Forces soldier proves herself not to be a careless person. She is not as good as an ordinary housewife and mother. She almost lost her kid in the subway when she was talking on the phone. Then she commited a more ser serious and unforgivable mistake in the American Embassy. She allowed her little kid to play in the playroom, alone, and left to go checking out her appointment. There's no other parents in that playroom when she left. How possible? It's like you leave a child in an unattended vehicle, or leave a kid in a nobody around playground in a park.

In order to create the leading role losing her child in a security-tight American Embassy, the screenplay writer and director, Christian Zübert, has decided to give us such a ridiculous scenario, a highly unlikely and impossible premise.

Good effort that kinda come short

A mother has to go to the US embassy for a Visa and while there, her son may or may not have been kidnapped. Did he just got lost in the embassy? Was he actually kidnapped? Or is this son of her's just in her head?

I can't talk too much on the story as there is a lot of twists and swerves, and if you are into this, like more as a thriller, it is actually pretty decent. My issue was that i was expecting an action movie, got pumped for that, and this is where the movie fall short.

The protagonist is extremely beautiful, yet strong and toned, i could totally believe her as a fighter, and while the fights were a lot more grounded than i usually like, i can't say i disliked them. The issue was that there wasn't that many of them.

A lot of the movie is exposition, plot twists and so on. So maybe because i was expecting more of an action movie, i saw myself looking at my phone a few times while watching it.

The movie was made in German but as my language is french, i am used to watch movies dubbed in said french so it made no difference for me.

Overall while i didn't dislike the movie per say, i think it came short of my expectations. Maybe i was simply not in the right mindset for a thriller that day and thats why. Yet i have to praise the performance from the main actress wich was very good for that kind of movie.

I am gonna give it a 6 out of 10. Its nothing special or that i will want to rewatch, but if they were gonna make a more action pack sequel with that same actress/character, i would totally watch it.

German Guns, Dubbed Drama, and a Dash of Madness

You may be surprised to learn the star of this gritty little sci-fi thriller is a former German special forces operative who served in Afghanistan. Yes-German special forces did fight in the Afghan war. They weren't just brewing beer and designing efficient cars; they were out there in the dust with US and British units, kicking down doors in classified joint operations. Just don't expect Berlin to tell you much about it-German military missions are about as secretive as your nan's naughty black-and-white photos.

And that quiet professionalism makes Exterritorial all the more intriguing. Here we've got a hard-as-nails ex-Kommando Spezialkräfte soldier-a woman with a backstory the script only hints at, but which radiates from her weathered expression like desert heat off tarmac. She's the good guy. Mostly.

Add to that a villain who speaks like he's read too much Nietzsche and smells like petrol, and a wild card sidekick, Irina (played by Lera Abova), whose apparently shifting loyalties make for some proper "what the hell is happening?" moments. It's got that familiar European sci-fi mood: part haunted tech lab, part black-ops bunker, with a dash of Black Mirror unease. There's a small but clever plot about weaponised memory, a mysterious object from the stars, and a question mark over who's really telling the truth.

And yes-there are high-tech gadgets galore. Some are clearly intended to help us suspend disbelief about the starlet's erratic behaviour (don't worry, she's not losing it-just temporarily synchronised with a pulsar from Andromeda or something). The techy stuff gives it pace and that sense of "maybe this is happening just five years from now."

It's a German film, dubbed into English. But worry not: modern dubbing isn't the comedy gold it used to be. This isn't like those classic Bruce Lee numbers where the lips would finish the sentence sometime after the credits rolled (don't you just miss them though? Real class...). No, this is slick, well-timed, and the voices match the mood beautifully.

Overall, Exterritorial is tight, satisfying, and a bit mad in the best way. It's one of those foreign gems that streamers are increasingly brave enough to show us-and we're better off for it. There's grit, action, sci-fi smarts, and a lead actor who probably still carries sand in her boots from Helmand Province.

Definitely worth a watch. Just maybe don't ask the German government what it's really about.

So unrealistic!

I think watching this movie is anyway a complete waste of time. They make you feel the USA consulate in Germany is less secure than any supermarket in the city! So disappointing.

I guess the idea of the movie was really nice but I guess if could have been in a more "realistic" professional way!

The actors did their best I guess but they needed more support from the director.

What I liked about the movie is the originality of the movie , so idea was somehow new and creative. It could have been utilized in a much better way. But we unfortunately felt so disappointed by the sequence of events.

Cliche but good entertainment

The story line has been done before so basically it's the delivery that can make it a good or bad movie. In this case, the action, the emotions, and overall acting was spot on.

First off the main character is painted as a grueling soldier and through the movie you can see why but at the same token she takes a beating! She you praise her for her determination and strength.

When it comes to the story, it was well written. At first it was corny at best ( bad wording I know) but then in the end it ties in nicely and everything is explained with no loose ends. So I won't spoil anything but just watch till the end and you can see how it plays!

So yes, recommend on a rainy day.

Your average bad Netflix Movie

Casting-Acting 3/10: Probably shopped around for actors at a Walmart parking lot, cause they struggle to convey believable joy, sorrow, or even anger-leaving key moments feeling hollow. Can't really decide who was the worst, cause they were all pretty bad.

Realism 3/10: Borderline stupid. Nothing makes sense throughout the movie. For example, do you remember when someone broke into your room, pinned you down and you got a clean chance to leave and call for help, but you decided... what the heck.. lets stay with the stranger and help her for no apparent reason.

Plot 4/10: Could be interesting, but it's not. It has so many holes and unrealistic events that makes it hard to keep it interesting.

Dialogues 2/10: I could probably give it a go, and write better lines than what the movie writers managed to come up with.

Choreography 3/10: Well... it's bad. Unwatchable really... just skip through to the next idiotic scene.

PTSD or Flightplan on steroids

I don't want to give anything away other than to say this was a decent thriller. The only annoying thing was seeing a woman with small stature successfully take down several dozen 200 pound soldier men throughout the film with her fists and physical training.

Other than that silliness, it was fun, the characters were decent and I kept looking at Dougray Scott and imagining what he would've been like playing the roll of Wolverine if only fate hadn't changed his filming schedule and forcing Hugh Jackman to replace him in the part.

As for this film, I won't give away if the twist is all mental illness or if it's just like a more epic Flightplan plot and I'll let you find out for yourself. Decent fast paced film and good performances from Dougray and the rest of the cast.

Unbearably stupid

Feels like someone just wanted to realize their GI Jane fantasies with complete disregard for logic. Severely illogical actions every 5 minutes - it's just painful.

Fiction gives you a lot of freedom but when you disregard even the most basic logics, you simply destroy the tension and the story loses its credibility.

The irrational behavior of the main character and the environment's response simply don't fit. Very frustrating and nerve-killing. Additionally many scenes feel fabricated.

One star for the actors. They did what they could. The main character really got you wondering in the beginning...

Slick, tense, and way better than expected

Exterritorial really surprised me. I went in expecting just another throwaway action flick, but what I got was a tight, stylish thriller with real momentum and personality. The pacing is sharp, the tension is almost constant, and the action scenes are clean, visceral, and well choreographed. What elevates it are the smart plot twists - nothing too far-fetched, just enough to keep you on edge and invested. And I have to give a shout-out to the lead actress - she absolutely nails it. She's magnetic, tough without overdoing it, and brings real weight to her scenes. You believe her. Honestly, it's rare to find something this solid flying under the radar. If you're into high-stakes, no-nonsense thrillers with a bit of brains, this one's well worth your time.

It's been done before but worth revisiting

The Bible states that "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun." (Ecclesiastics 1:9 NIV).

Filmmakers have proven this time and time again and "Extraterritorial" is the latest offering. The story revolves around Sara Wulf (Jeanne Goursaud), a former special forces soldier with the German Army who suffers from PTSD, who visits the U. S. Consulate in Frankfurt Germany with her son Josh (Rickson Guy da Silva) to get a work VISA so she can travel to America for a job offer. While at the consulate Josh disappears. Consulate staff claims Josh was never with Sara and that she just imagined him there. Like any good action hero/mamma bear, Sara begins a desperate hunt for her son in the consulate which uncovers nefarious conspiracies.

This premise was offered 20 years earlier in a film called "Flight Plan" (2005) with Jodie Foster playing Kyle Pratt, the frantic mom searching for her child on a plane that no one claims to remember seeing. While Goursaud's Sara Wulf has more territory to search than Foster's character the premise is the same. Some details have been added like Lera Abova who plays Sara's unwitting sidekick, the formula is relatively the same.

Despite the similarities "Exterritorial" is a decent film to watch on a lazy Saturday afternoon. The action sequences are engaging even if the story plot is a retread. Goursaurd's acting is passable, but not as good as Foster's was. Da Silva's character is just the right amount of annoying as most young children portrayed in films and TV tend to be. Even Dougray Scott, who has convincingly played the villain in "Mission Impossible II. (2000) has a character here that is nothing more than a two-dimensional foil for Goursaurd and Kayode Akinyemi's character had all the emotional depth of a cardboard cutout. It is still worth checking out this film if you have nothing to do on a day off of work.

A pointless time-eater.

The whole film is complete nonsense. The plot is boring and uninteresting. Everything in this film looks like it was made by force for the plot. As if they first came up with some element of the script and only then added some context to it. As if everything was just improvised by actors.

I'm under the the impression that many, many other directors did it better. It looks as if the script was written by ChatGpt. If someone likes such a tedious, repetitive and predictable films, this one will be the one. Although no, all in all, this film is so stupid that it is impossible to predict it sensibly, and that's why it deserves 2* instead of 1*.

The 3456th NIKITA rip-off....

Since several years now, the movie industry is literally invaded by a gigantic, huge, strong female characters spree. Long, long after the DNA of this kind of movies, I mean NIKITA, in 1990. Of course there were the seventies exploitation, grindhouse flicks - women in jail or vigilante rape and revenge plots. Tons of them, but it was the glorious and forever lost seventies, a period when everything was permitted. That said this German tv movie is not that bad, a bit lame yes, but not that lousy. The characters rather convincing and the directing honest, straight. I was rather satisfied, but unfortunately the ending is so predictable and forgettable too. I expected something a bit more original, more unpredictable.

Solid thriller

I am surprised how fast paced this action thriller was. It was never boring since begin to the end that I don't want to spoil here.

The script and direction was clever done and perfectly timed into an action packed film with full of suspense.

The fight scenes looked cool and they deserve additional respect and congratulations for these great executions.

If you like these kind of women's anti hero stories don't miss Atomic Blonde, Red Sparrow, Hanna or Colombiana with Zoe Soldana.

I rate this 7/10 for the high entertainment value. I cannot understand all the negative reviews here. Give it a chance.

another good netflix action film

I think netflix have found a good algerrythim receantly and the action movies are becoming better and better. In this movie Sara who is an ex solider living in germany goes to the us consulate with son josh. It takes so long to wait to get seen and while josh is playing he goes missing. The security in this place is really bad and should be better for a place like this . The acting is very well done and believable its a realistic movie and the action adds to this and you can tell sara is ex military. It fun watching her go through the place finding a way to get josh back. Oveerall i liked this movie.

Attention to detail???

It's clearly a terrible movie, but what really takes me out of it is the Marine Gunnery Sergeant wearing medals from Vietnam. Seriously? A little research wouldn't have killed the production team. The timeline makes zero sense-unless he's somehow 75 years old and still throwing punches like a 30-year-old, which, given the rest of the movie's logic, might actually be the least ridiculous thing happening.

And don't even get me started on the fight scenes. I've seen better choreography in high school drama club productions. The punches don't land, the reactions are a beat off, and half the time it looks like they're trying not to hit each other-which, frankly, might've improved things. Easily some of the worst fight choreography I've seen in the last two decades.

My mistake

I made myself a promise long ago that I will not watch any movie, especially not action written and directed by the same person, especially not on Netflix. My mistake for not checking that. It seems to me that anyone knocking on Netflix's door that he has a script and wants to direct it, instantly gets a car with a trunk loaded with money to do it, no checks, no balances.

Exterritorial is a shameless plagiarism of Flightplan (2005) and Bourne Identity. An insult to any moviegoer. Just remember the director's name and avoid anything he does in the future. And I was so happy to find a European movie. Damn.

Taken plus Die Hard minus quite a bit of action

I mostly enjoyed this film but by the end I wanted more action especially more shooting and stunts.

The film stars Joanne Goursaud as an ex-soldier called Sara, who goes to the American consulate in Germany to get her and her son American visas so she can start her new job with a security firm. But whilst she's there she leaves her son in a playroom for just a minute and then she comes back and he's gone. But why is everyone else saying that Sara came to the consulate alone? Is there really a chance that the CCTV that shows Sara walking around by herself is incorrect or have Sara's paranoid delusions from when she was in the army gotten out of control? And why is it so easy for Sara to slip past security when she starts searching for her son? It's questions like this that added a good mystery element to the film.

There are also some really intense hand to hand combat scenes between Sara and some guards. My favorite one is when Sara has to fight off two guards at the same time in a small bedroom. But like I said in my intro, I would have preferred to have seen more shooting.

There's also one scene where Sara has to climb around on some very narrow window sills which is frightening, but this only lasts a minute so I would have preferred to have seen more of this.

Overall though, I did enjoy the action in the film. I'm just not sure if I would watch it again, because there's better action packed films out there.

When 'Movie' Is Too Generous

Calling it a movie is generous - it's just cringe.

The plot? Bottom of the barrel.

The fight scenes? Like they were choreographed in the early 1900s - by someone with no arms.

And the acting... wait, those were actors?

Yesterday, Netflix gave us Black Mirror and Adolescence - today it's serving up Havok and Exterritorial? What is this, a split personality? Is this even the same platform? Or did someone just hit 'shuffle' on the content generator?

Netflix, if the drunk intern's running the show, just blink twice so we know.

Honestly, this might be my last month of subscription. Never again.

Surprisingly Good

Kept scrolling past this movie for a good while now, till one evening thought I'd give it a go with mumzy.

I'll be completely honest, if you can put aside realism to some extent then you'll love it. It's not exaggerated to the point like are you serious, but I would hope the military are a lot more competent than this.

Then again, the fights were realistic. A women going up against two trained men, they didn't make her have super strength like most of these movies do. It was well choreographed fight scenes. Brilliant actors who served the emotions well and I loved the main actress.

If you're looking for a decent movie to watch that isn't boring and has a good plot then watch it. It reminded me of White House Down and a Jennifer Lopez movie (can't remember the name).

Just okay

Just one time watch that too for action sequences. Storyline, plot twists are not new and could have done a better job in making it to connect to audience. Lead actress tried hard to carry it all on her shoulders but not enough support from other actors. If the makers could have spent some time on the script and execution, it could have been better. Movie starts on an interesting note and engages you but when they tried to complicate it ruins the thrill. Technically, background score is okay, camera work and stunt department did a very good job. Overall it's just an average movie because of the weak writing and casting.
