A mixed bag...

It was 8 a.m., and my wife, enjoying her day off, asked me to check out the latest Chinese crime drama. Since I'd been up since 5 a.m. Working, I figured, why not? She picked "Tiger Wolf Rabbit," which follows three parents-Cui Dalu (Xiao Yang), Li Hongying (Zhao Liying), and Zhao Zishan (Liu Ye)-who are all on a desperate quest to find their missing kids. They end up making some pretty shady deals with some pretty soulless characters involved in human trafficking. The film is packed with travel, revenge plots, and some wild, staged killings in a desolate landscape. Most of it revolves around these characters facing bizarre and dangerous situations.

For me, it was a bit of a mixed bag from director Guo Shubo. There was plenty of action and some intriguing subplots, but it felt way too long at over two hours! It also came off as emotionally flat, much like the barren setting, and the pacing was all over the place, which made it a bit dull.
