Larry David’s beloved comedy series “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is gearing up for a grand showing at the Primetime Emmys. The 12th and final season of the HBO/Max series has submitted for 35 nominations, including the top prize for outstanding comedy series.
Playing a fictionalized version of himself, David is again vying for the lead comedy actor category. He hopes to unseat last year’s winner and current frontrunner, Jeremy Allen White from “The Bear.” Though David is a two-time Emmy winner for writing and creating “Seinfeld,” he has yet to win as an actor despite six nominations, the last of which came in 2008.
Supporting actors J.B. Smoove, Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, two-time former nominee Cheryl Hines and Tracey Ullman will also compete in the main acting categories, as well as a posthumous submission for Richard Lewis, who died in February.
The network has opted to submit 15 performers for the guest acting categories,...

Bruce Springsteen's Covid storyline in Curb Your Enthusiasm parallels a real-life incident during his 2023 tour, adding humor to the show. Filming for Curb season 12 wrapped before Springsteen's Covid diagnosis, making the coincidental storyline truly uncanny. The show's ability to predict real events, like a Trump-like arrest, adds to the comedic genius of Curb Your Enthusiasm's plot twists.
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12, episode 9.
Bruce Springsteen’s Covid-riddled guest appearance in Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12, episode 9, “Ken/Kendra,” has an accidental parallel with a real-life event. Impressed by Larry’s supposed act of activism in Atlanta, Springsteen wants to meet Larry in Curb Your Enthusiasm’s penultimate episode. During their meeting, their glasses of water get mixed up and Larry ends up infecting Springsteen with Covid, forcing him to cancel his upcoming shows. This causes Larry’s public image to take a nosedive as...

Look away, Susie Greene. A Curb Your Enthusiasm billboard in Los Angeles — advertising the Susie Essman character’s Catch as Caftan business — was defaced in the same explicit way that it was defaced on the HBO comedy’s March 10 episode. In that installment, “The Gettysburg Address” Susie meets the fictionalized Larry Davidon Santa Monica Boulevard and proudly shows off the billboard. Later, however, Larry sees that someone has spray-painted a penis onto the billboard. Susie is horrified, but her business takes off in what Larry calls a “post-penis bump.” In fact, Larry encourages her to have the billboard graffitied with a second penis to really juice sales. On Wednesday, Curb’s Instagram account showed off that HBO had recreated the un-graffitied version of the billboard near the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Centinela Avenue, where Los Angeles meets Santa Monica. A web address listed on the billboard leads to...

Talk about life imitating art.
A real-life Curb Your Enthusiasm billboard that recently went up on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles was graffitied to match Susie Greene’s (Susie Greene) Catch as Caftan billboard that appeared in episode six of the show’s 12th and final season last week.
In the episode titled “The Gettysburg Address,” David gets quite the laugh when he sees Susie’s billboard that she purchased for her new business venture hit by a graffiti artist — two large penises were spray-painted on the billboard.
The Hollywood Reporter learned last week that HBO was planning a marketing scheme to display a real billboard to promote Susie’s business (one without graffiti). “Imagine the traffic jams if we actually had a Susie poster on Santa Monica Boulevard where she was getting double-dosed,” Jeff Schaffer said at the time.
But the Curb Your Enthusiasm boss also shared a prediction with THR,...

Loughlin became the face of the Varsity Blues scandal when she and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud after they were accused of paying $500,000 to get their daughters into the University of Southern California, using falsified athletic profiles. They were among dozens of parents swept up in the investigation of admissions consultant Rick Singer, who admitted to bribing and cheating in order to get his clients’ children into prestigious universities.

[This story contains spoilers from the sixth episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12.]
Curb Your Enthusiasm is known for inviting guest actors onto the HBO improv comedy series to play versions of themselves and go toe-to-toe with Larry David’s onscreen persona.
The latest actress to do so was Lori Loughlin, who came on the sixth episode of the 12th and final season to confront her post-college admissions scandal reputation in Hollywood. The setup was that Loughlin, who loves to play golf, was being black-balled from L.A. country clubs due to her role in the 2019 scandal. (Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giannulli were among the high-profile parents charged with paying fixers to get their children into top U.S. universities, nicknamed Operation Varsity Blues by the FBI.)
So Loughlin needs a sponsor, and who better than Larry — someone who has gotten so many second chances himself? “You know I’m a champion of the underdog,” he says.

Say this for Donald Trump: He can make a joke as well as he can take one.
Days after calling for decorum in the White House – and with his repeated duckings of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner prompting a no-comedian affair next year – the President of the United States tweeted an insult about Rep. Adam Schiff, calling the Democratic congressman from California “little Adam Schitt.”
Trump’s Sunday morning tweet, in full: “So funny to see little Adam Schitt (D-ca) talking about the fact that Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker was not approved by the Senate, but not mentioning the fact that Bob Mueller (who is highly conflicted) was not approved by the Senate!”
Any remote possibility that the sophomoric jibe was some sort of auto-correct blunder faded in direct proportion to the hours the tweet remained live (24 and counting) on the President of the United States’ official Twitter page.

Joel and Ethan Coen finally went digital for their Netflix Western anthology, “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” but it was more out of necessity than aesthetics. Still, it’s a stunning, hyper-real achievement for cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel’s second go-round with the Coens (Oscar-nominated “Inside Llewyn Davis”), who convinced them that it was the only cost-effective way to make their movie.
“Because it was for Netflix and there was no theatrical, they wanted to try it,” said Delbonnel, “especially after hearing how fantastic digital was from so many people, including Roger Deakins, who doesn’t want to shoot on film anymore.”
Delbonnel, who shot with the Alexa Studio, invited the Coens to take a sneak peek of “Darkest Hour,” and they admired how he was able to capture light and shadow with digital tools. “But it was hard at the beginning,” he said. “They’re not used to watching dailies...

The Coen Brothers' Western anthology, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, features real gems in its tall tales (as well as some fool's gold).
“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” could be a movie. If that seems an odd thing to say at the top of a review for the Coen Brothers’ newest film, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, that is because the “Buster Scruggs” of Buster Scruggs is only a fraction of the overall film. Or to be more precise, it is the first (and best) short film in an anthology of six Western yarns written and directed with real affection by Joel and Ethan Coen. And while among the other five shorts in the piece there are also gems (as well as a few pieces of fool’s gold), the picture never quite overcomes how strong the first short was.
Opening on a vast wide shot in John Ford’s cinematic backyard,...
