Unwatchable

Brain Drain" ("Fuga di cervelli") proves that even the worst cinematic nightmares can come true. Imagine a group of wannabe comedians pretending to be medical students at Oxford to help their nerdy friend woo his dream girl. Sounds intriguing? Too bad the film is a disaster from start to finish. The script is a mishmash of crude jokes and embarrassing gags, reminiscent of the worst sketch comedy on a forgotten TV channel. Paolo Ruffini, in his directorial debut, shows that not every comedian can be a director. The characters are unbearable caricatures, and the humor is so forced it makes even the lamest sitcoms seem genius. If you're looking for a brilliant comedy, "Brain Drain" will make you want to flee the theater.

Fuga di cervelli by Paolo Ruffini

The comedy is one of the most popular movie genres, which some of these movies are box office hit to become important cults. The comedy can be used to balance the humor and the drama, to represent the realism on the stories in a light way. Most of these stories would end either in the good way or even in the bad way, to give at the audience some reflections about the stories they have followed. The comedy can be also used to make fun of the most popular movie genres, like the spy movies, action movies, science fiction movies, fantasy movies, horror movies, ect. To see how the main heroes would face some of the most unexpected dangers, as most of these stories use exaggerated slapstick humor to create some of the goofiest scenes. The filmmaker Paolo Ruffini has been interested to direct a comedy as his first feature movie, which is the remake of the Spanish movie Fuga de cerebros. In 2013 came out Fuga di cervelli by Paolo Ruffini, with the following cast Paolo Ruffini, Frank Matano, Guglielmo Scilla, Luca Peracino, Andrea Pisani and Olga Kent. The movie's plot: The young shy man Emilio (Luca Peracino) has been in love with Nadia (Olga Kent), since they were little children. At the moment where Emilio tries to tell Nadia his feelings on her, she tells him to have an opportunity to study at Oxford. Emilio's friends, Alfredo (Paolo Ruffini), Alonso (Andrea Pisani), Franco (Frank Matano) and Lebowski (Guglielmo Scilla), would help Emilio to get Nadia by committing a lot of funny mess, once they arrive at Oxford. It is usually really difficult to make a funny comedy movie, as the humor has to be used at the right moment, with a workable rhythm to make the people laugh. Fuga di cervelli uses the humor to be workable, which would make the audience laugh from the beginning to the end. But at the same time the movie would give some reflections about the main characters, who even they would have silly attitudes, they show to have more empathy than they look. Paolo Ruffini was really good as Alfredo who is actually blind, to commit some goofy actions in the course of the story, as he pretends he can do anything. Since Alfredo came at Oxford with his friends, he would fall in love with Claudia who is the speaker of the university. Once they would meet each other, Alfredo would find out he and Claudia have something in common. Andrea Pisani was hilarious as Alonso who walks with a wheelchair, he would only think about to flirt with any woman he encounters. Since Alonso falls in love with Karen, who is a big fan of William Shakespeare, something would change him. Frank Matano was funny as Franco who is ignorant to have less idea about culture, instead to be intellectual as his mother describes him a great intellectual son. But at the same time he would show, as well as the rest of his friends, to have a strong bond with all of them, no matter how goofy they are. Guglielmo Scilla was good as Lebowski, as it is a homage to the Dude from The Great Lebowski by the Coen brothers. He is dressed like the original Dude and he is actually a drug dealer who does not give any kind of reactions, as for his point of view everything is fine, even some goofy mess would happen. It is also the reason Lebowski is funny, as well as his mother describes him as a good person, who does not make anything bad, even she does not know the truth about him. Finally Luca Peracino did a well done performance as Emilio, who initially seems shy to not give any kind of reactions. Until at the conclusion of the story Emilio becomes much serious, as he would be the one to say all of his friends to not be anymore childish. When everything seems lost an unexpected surprise would happen, with a satisfying happy ending for all of them. Fuga di cervelli narrates the story in the easiest way, without make the story complicated, as it makes the narration workable. Paolo Ruffini managed very well the direction of the movie, to be very clear how the story has to be told from the beginning to the end. Fuga di cervelli is one of the funniest movies of all time.
