The Buccaneers season 2 release date has officially been revealed as Apple TV+ releases a teaser trailer for the show. Based on the novel by Edith Wharton, The Buccaneers is an Apple TV+ produced costume drama about a group of American young women in the 1870s who grapple with an Anglo-American culture clash when they are sent overseas to secure husbands and titles. The Buccaneers features a leading cast including Kristin Froseth, Alisha Boe, Matthew Broome, Josie Totah, Imogen Waterhouse, and Aubri Ibrag.

Now, Apple TV+ has revealed The Buccaneers season 2 release date in a new save-the-date teaser. The trailer showed some of the main characters from the series in lavish dresses and suits. Exclusive: Corbin Bernsen (Clipped) has wrapped production on Woodstockers, an indie TV pilot for which he wrote the original draft, in which he stars opposite Stephen Tobolowsky (Nobody Wants This).

The original logline for the dark generational comedy teased the story of “two guys who went to Woodstock in ’69 and never left,” with Bernsen and Tobolowsky respectively playing friends Lenny Baker and Cal Reddick. But per Bernsen, who relocated to the Hudson Vally six years ago, “Early on I had the good fortune to connect with Michael Lang, one of the original organizers of Woodstock, and quickly discovered a deeper story about the 60’s and a generation who espoused ‘Love and Peace,’ but failed in their early attempts to ‘change the world.’ At the same time, I witnessed a new generation dusting off the “hippie” mantra and giving it their own spin.”

Apple TV+’s limited series Lucky has added a second big name to its cast.

Annette Bening will star opposite Anya Taylor-Joy in the drama, which is based on Marissa Stapley’s best-selling novel of the same name. The series centers on Lucky (Taylor-Joy), a young woman who has left an earlier life of crime behind her but is drawn back in as she attempts to escape her past.

Bening will play Priscilla, who in the novel is a thief and a thorn in Lucky’s side.

Apple TV+ ordered the series in December from creator Jonathan Tropper (See, the forthcoming Your Friends & Neighbors) and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine (the novel was a Reese’s Book Club selection). Apple Studios is producing.

It's a wild ride with splashy action that doesn't ground itself too deeply in reality.

In my opinion, it is nothing compared to what Apple TV+ has in store for us for 2025, as some of the most highly-anticipated Apple TV+ original shows will be premiering this year. This year will find big show returns like more “Poker Face,” “Andor,” and “The White Lotus”; not to mention the fourth and final season of “The Bear” and the long, long-awaited return of “Severance” on Apple TV+. Exclusive: Anne Hathaway and Dave Bautista will star in an untitled action comedy that Jonathan Tropper is scripting for Amazon MGM Studios and Agbo. The film is inspired by an actual sting in which agents posed as a couple to infiltrate global criminal enterprises. It culminated in a staged wedding in New Jersey. When the crime bosses checked in for their table assignments, they were arrested and dragged away so as not to tip off the next suspect.

The film will be produced by Agbo principals Joe and Anthony Russo, along with Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco and Tropper. Agbo brought the package to Amazon MGM, its partner on a second season of Citadel and the upcoming feature The Bluff. Also producing are Hathaway through her Somewhere Pictures banner and Bautista through his Dogbone Entertainment banner.

These days, for better or worse, it's hard to imagine the movie and TV industries without Rotten Tomatoes. In a wide-ranging interview with Vanity Fair, series creator and executive producer Dan Erickson gives us our first hints of what to expect from the new season of Apple TV+’s sci-fi thriller. “Things get darker,” he teases ominously. “We very much wanted to put our heroes in a scarier place because Season 1 ends with them poking the bear.” But “what happens when the bear pokes back?” In Season 2, we’ll learn that “the fallout is dire.”

The series is based on the Marissa Stapley novel of the same name. The book was a New York Times bestseller and a selection for Reese Witherspoon’s Reese’s Book Club.

The official logline states that Taylor-Joy “stars as a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.”

Jonathan Tropper and Cassie Pappas are adapting the book for the screen and will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Tropper executive produces under his overall deal with Apple. Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter executive produce for Hello Sunshine, a part of Candle Media. Taylor-Joy executive produces under her Ladykiller Films banner. Apple Studios will produce.
