Exclusive: Magnolia Pictures has pre-bought U.S. rights to horror-thriller The Shepherd from Anton and are planning a robust theatrical release next year.

David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight) and Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) are set to star in the film about a desperate young woman on the run from her ex who hitches a ride through the desert with a frightening stranger, only to realize he’s on a mission to destroy the mysterious cargo resting in the backseat.

Filming is due to get underway this fall on the movie which heralds from Spooky Pictures and Image Nation. John Hyams (Sick) is directing from a script by Alexander Gustaveson.

Anton is handling worldwide rights and co-repping North American rights with UTA Independent Film Group and Cinetic. International sales will continue at TIFF.

With the final season of the viral sensation sci-fi series on the horizon, the Duffer brothers may be leaving Netflix after Stranger Thingsseason 5. Reacher has been one of the biggest shows on Prime Video since its debut in 2022. As fans are impatiently waiting for the upcoming Season 4, there have been some behind-the-scenes changes.

Paramount and Skydance have joined forces in a major merger recently, which directly impacts Reacher's future, as the two companies split TV production between CBS Studios and the newly formed Paramount TV Studios (Ptvs). Deadline confirms Reacher, its upcoming spinoff Neagley, as well as Prime Video's Cross, will be moving production from CBS Studios to the new Paramount TV Studios.

All three shows were co-produced by Skydance TV and CBS Studios, but following the major acquisition on Aug. 7, the series will fall under the Ptvs responsibilities, alongside other streaming TV shows that are not part of Paramount+'s slate. Ptvs will combine Skydance Television's projects with Showtime/ MTV Entertainment Studios, and will predominantly focus on streaming series for Paramount+, but also other outside platforms.

Apple TV+ has slowly become the streaming home for some of the best science-fiction television. The streamer has continued to roll out major hits like Severance, Silo, Foundation, and Dark Matter, but it also has a robust library of hidden gems that have gone underseen. From shows like For All Mankind and Invasion to Murderbot and Sugar, there's a different sci-fi flavor for everyone.

By investing in unique creative visions and high-concept thrills, Apple TV+ is now the streaming destination for sci-fi. It seems that the streamer will only continue to solidify this as Foundation concludes season 3 soon and, with the return of shows like Severance and Silo are on the horizon. But, while the wait may be long for the latter two series, one sci-fi show is set to premiere quite soon and, if Bob Odenkirk is to be believed, it has the chance to blow all of these out of the water.

This time, a new report suggests the spotlight is on Apple TV+’s Murderbot, the adaptation of Martha Wells’ award-winning The Murderbot Diaries. The Hugo- and Nebula-winning stories follow a socially awkward, self-aware security unit with a penchant for binge-watching soap operas — and occasionally saving humans. In his post, Martin wrote:

Apple TV+'s sci-fi hit sporting a 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, Murderbot, has received a cautious update for season 2 and beyond, and what they may entail. “Severance” is Apple TV+’s crown jewel right now and if you haven’t already checked it out now is the time. The series follows a group of employees who work at the mysterious Lumon Industries as “severed” employees meaning they consciously only exist on the floor they work on, while their Outie can go about their daily lives, not having to feel the boredom and pressures of office life.

David S. Goyer is more than willing to return to Blade if Marvel ever requires his assistance. The filmmaker recently offered an update on the long-gestating project.

Speaking to ComicBook, Goyer said he would be happy to revisit Blade if he was asked. "I've had a lot of people and journalists ask, 'Why don't you go in there and help them with it?' Prior to that happening, I hadn't really considered it. But I had my agent call Marvel about six months ago to say, 'Do you guys need any help with it?' And they said, 'No, we're good. We're on the right path now.' I wouldn't say no to it. It would be interesting to revisit it decades afterwards."

Goyer also addressed some of the difficulties the company has faced adapting the character. "I have been puzzled why they are having so much trouble because they already had Mahershala Ali.

After a few lackluster seasons, Law & Order: Svu Season 27 sounds like a vast improvement.

We’re not sure when it will air, but the line-up seems similar to Law & Order: Svu’s 500th episode, and includes Chris Meloni (Elliot Stabler), Brian Cassidy (Dean Winters), and Dr. George Huang (Bd Wong).

While Don Cragen has appeared on Law & Order: Organized Crime, he did not appear on Law & Order: Svu Season 23 Episode 6, which is the show’s milestone 500th episode.

Skydance Television president Matt Thunell is set to oversee Paramount Television Studios following the closing of the two companies’ $8 billion merger. Thunell will report to newly appointed Paramount Pictures co-chair and Paramount Television chair Dana Goldberg.

The Paramount Television Studios label, which is being revived after being shuttered in August 2024, will include Skydance Television and the previously merged Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.

Following its shuttering, Ptvs series and development projects — such as Prime Video’s “Cross” and Apple TV+’s “Before” and “Murderbot” — transitioned to CBS Studios. It remains unclear where oversight of CBS Studios will fall in the new organizational structure.

Taylor Sheridan, whose deal with MTV Entertainment Studios runs through 2028, is expected to be based at Paramount TV Studios going forward. Showtime/MTV Entertainment scripted content head Keith Cox is expected to transition to the new label and continue working with Sheridan.

A spokesperson for Skydance declined to comment.

A year ago, Paramount Television Studios was shuttered in a cost-cutting move as its parent company prepared to merge with Skydance.

With that deal on the verge of closing, the new Paramount is reviving the Paramount TV Studios name — which will in turn absorb one of the company’s two remaining studio operations as well as the formerly independent Skydance Television.

Skydance TV president Matt Thunell is set to lead Paramount TV Studios, reporting to Dana Goldberg, the newly named co-chair of Paramount Pictures (with Josh Greenstein) and chair of Paramount Television.

Reps for Skydance and Paramount hadn’t returned a request for comment as of publication time.

The reconstituted Paramount TV Studios will house productions currently under Showtime/MTV Entertainment, the home of prolific creator Taylor Sheridan (the Yellowstone-verse, Landman et al), Showtime series like the Dexter franchise and The Agency, and Netflix’s Emily in Paris, among others.

As a fan of sci-fi and comedy, it should’ve been a no-brainer that I fell in love with this spring’s Apple TV+ show Murderbot.

Based on a book series by Martha Wells, this show follows a rogue SecUnit, a robot meant to protect people on space expeditions.

The primary focus of the show is the relationship it forms with the group of humans it’s assigned to take care of and how it discovers its own identity.

If you’re looking for a show that has a ton of heart as well as plenty of laughs, you should absolutely tune in before Season 2 drops.

What to Keep In Mind About Murderbot (Apple TV+)

To be honest, it took me some time to really get into the show for a few reasons.

First of all, the show’s marketing pushes Alexander Skarsgard’s role as the lead.

The most special thing about Apple TV+ and its embrace of science fiction isn't the surprisingly broad swath of content available to fans. It's that the service is willing to go back to the era when shows needed time to build their audience, and to really hit their stride. "Foundation" is the herald. It's not just a smart adaptation of an Isaac Asimov series so broad and deep in scope that fans thought it would be impossible to film (especially with its complicated relationship with Asimov's "Robot" novels), but Apple let it keep building up toward a fantastic third season that shows the potential of its author's imagination.

Cerebral, clever, and incredibly well cast, with "Chernobyl" star Jared Harris and the underrated Lee Pace of "The Fall" and "Pushing Daisies" fame, the show puts it all out there for fans to puzzle over, creating a space for fans to crave...

By now, if you’re still watching The Institute on MGM+, you’ve either shut off your emotional processing center or you’re exactly where I am: disgusted, furious, and determined to see every single one of these bastards get what’s coming.

After noting that he’s enjoyed shows like Apple TV+’s Murderbot, he shared a more in-depth review on a Star Wars spinoff we loved here at Winter is Coming.

“Andor was this year’s highlight, though. Far and away the best of the Star Wars spinoffs," Martin wrote on July 25. Fountain of Youth was incredibly hyped when it came out in May 2025. Guy Ritchie made an old-fashioned adventure flick starring John Krasinski as a charming treasure hunter and Natalie Portman as his more cautious sister. The Apple TV+ movie took viewers into sinking ships, grand libraries and underground death traps -- and garnered a lot of comparisons to Indiana Jones.

All the critical reviews pointed towards the film going into the dustbin of cinematic achievement... and then something funny happened. Initially, Fountain of Youth performed well not only in America, but around the world. However, per FlixPatrol, the movie's magical streaming run is coming to an end.
