David Dastmalchian is the first actor in the Dexter franchise history to be killed by Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) twice, playing two different characters in the same season of Dexter Resurrection. This rare opportunity, as Dastmalchian himself puts it, is something no one has done before on the show. He plays the twin serial killer known as The Gemini Killer. Talking to Deadline, he shared,
I want to give a major thank you and share my gratitude [executive producers] Clyde [Phillips] and Scott [Reymonds], because I got to do with the Gareths is something that no one has done… Not only did I get to play two characters, but I had two performance to craft.
Already known for roles in The Dark Knight, The Suicide Squad, Prisoners, Oppenheimer, and One Piece, Dastmalchian brings another chilling villain to life in Showtime’s reboot. Dexter Resurrection Season 1 centers on a secret society of murderers...

With the final season of the viral sensation sci-fi series on the horizon, the Duffer brothers may be leaving Netflix after Stranger Thingsseason 5. Ever since its premiere in 2016, the show has been one of the biggest properties on TV, consistently breaking viewership records and spawning various forms of merchandise and even a Broadway play.
After four successful seasons on the air, the Duffers announced that Stranger Things season 5 would be the end of the series, with production having run from January to December 2024. However, as part of their overall deal with Netflix, it won't be the end for the franchise, as both an animated and live-action spinoff are in the works for it.
Now, as first reported by Puck's Matt Belloni, Paramount is reportedly "aggressively" making an effort to sign the Duffer brothers to a new creative deal. A subsequent report from Deadline went on to indicate that the...

Reacher has been one of the biggest shows on Prime Video since its debut in 2022. As fans are impatiently waiting for the upcoming Season 4, there have been some behind-the-scenes changes.
Paramount and Skydance have joined forces in a major merger recently, which directly impacts Reacher's future, as the two companies split TV production between CBS Studios and the newly formed Paramount TV Studios (Ptvs). Deadline confirms Reacher, its upcoming spinoff Neagley, as well as Prime Video's Cross, will be moving production from CBS Studios to the new Paramount TV Studios.
All three shows were co-produced by Skydance TV and CBS Studios, but following the major acquisition on Aug. 7, the series will fall under the Ptvs responsibilities, alongside other streaming TV shows that are not part of Paramount+'s slate. Ptvs will combine Skydance Television's projects with Showtime/ MTV Entertainment Studios, and will predominantly focus on streaming series for Paramount+, but also other outside platforms.

Apple TV+ has slowly become the streaming home for some of the best science-fiction television. The streamer has continued to roll out major hits like Severance, Silo, Foundation, and Dark Matter, but it also has a robust library of hidden gems that have gone underseen. From shows like For All Mankind and Invasion to Murderbot and Sugar, there's a different sci-fi flavor for everyone.
By investing in unique creative visions and high-concept thrills, Apple TV+ is now the streaming destination for sci-fi. It seems that the streamer will only continue to solidify this as Foundation concludes season 3 soon and, with the return of shows like Severance and Silo are on the horizon. But, while the wait may be long for the latter two series, one sci-fi show is set to premiere quite soon and, if Bob Odenkirk is to be believed, it has the chance to blow all of these out of the water.

Murderbot Season 2 is knocking on the doors, and here’s everything we know about the sci-fi action dramedy. Alexander Skarsgård is expected to return in the titular role, as are some of the cast from Season 1. With a plot that follows Murderbot befriending a Research Transport vessel AI named Art, who helps it uncover why it went rogue in the first place, there are bound to be new misadventures in store.
Based on Hugo and Nebula Award-winning book series, The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells, the show has gained traction in the television landscape with its diverse and unique perspective on identity, autonomy, and the complexities of human-nonhuman relationships.
For a refresher, Season 1 ends on a note that presents Murderbot (Alexander Skarsgård) posing as a servant bot, boards a transport ship that departs just as Mensah awakens. She later realizes that the ship has left. Now, let’s dive a...

George R.R. Martin has no shortage of credentials when it comes to knowing a great TV adaptation when he sees one. The A Song of Ice and Fire author not only wrote the novels that became Game of Thrones, but he’s also served as an executive producer on acclaimed shows like Dark Winds. So when he takes to his blog to call out a series for “doing science fiction right,” it’s worth paying attention.
This time, a new report suggests the spotlight is on Apple TV+’s Murderbot, the adaptation of Martha Wells’ award-winning The Murderbot Diaries. The Hugo- and Nebula-winning stories follow a socially awkward, self-aware security unit with a penchant for binge-watching soap operas — and occasionally saving humans. In his post, Martin wrote:
“The Murderbot stories are always a lot of fun, and the TV show did them justice. I look forward to another series.

Exclusive: The new, post-Skydance merger Paramount has two major TV studio units: the existing CBS Studios, led by David Stapf and overseen by Paramount Chair of TV Media George Cheeks, and the newly formed Paramount TV Studios, headed by former Skydance TV President Matt Thunell and overseen by Dana Goldberg, Co-Chair of Paramount Pictures and Chair of Paramount Television.
In an encouraging sign for their future interactions (and possible collaborations), on Day 1 of the two studios existing alongside each other when the Skydance acquisition closed August 7, they had already agreed on how to split the majority of overlapping existing series and projects in development.
As Deadline reported last week, CBS Studios’ primary focus will remain supplying the CBS broadcast network while still being able to do streaming series for Paramount+ and outside streamers when an opportunity presents itself, especially extensions of existing franchises like the NCIS: Tony & Ziva offshoot...

Apple TV+'s sci-fi hit sporting a 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, Murderbot, has received a cautious update for season 2 and beyond, and what they may entail. Based on The Murderbot Diaries series written by Martha Wells, the show follows the assignments of its title private security construct. Murderbot season 2 was confirmed as season 1 closed out.
Speaking with ComicBookabout The Sandman season 2, Murderbot executive producer David S. Goyer explained how the show would handle its story in season 2 and well into the future. He explained how there will be some differences between the show and Wells' novels, such as series regulars coming back who weren't involved in the source material's version of events:
I would say there are five other books that Martha Wells has written, so there’s a lot more material. I don’t know if the show will last five, six seasons. The only difference between the...

Apple TV+ has really become a haven for top-tier sci-fi series, but with all that good in one place, where does one start?
From the awards darling and crown jewel of the entire streaming service, “Severance,” to lesser-viewed but equally stellar offerings like “For All Mankind,” there are plenty of options to choose from for all different walks of sci-fi fandom.
Below are the best sci-fi shows available to stream on Apple TV+.
Adam Scott and Britt Lower in “Severance” (Apple TV+) Severance
“Severance” is Apple TV+’s crown jewel right now and if you haven’t already checked it out now is the time. The series follows a group of employees who work at the mysterious Lumon Industries as “severed” employees meaning they consciously only exist on the floor they work on, while their Outie can go about their daily lives, not having to feel the boredom and pressures of office life.

David S. Goyer is more than willing to return to Blade if Marvel ever requires his assistance. The filmmaker recently offered an update on the long-gestating project.
Speaking to ComicBook, Goyer said he would be happy to revisit Blade if he was asked. "I've had a lot of people and journalists ask, 'Why don't you go in there and help them with it?' Prior to that happening, I hadn't really considered it. But I had my agent call Marvel about six months ago to say, 'Do you guys need any help with it?' And they said, 'No, we're good. We're on the right path now.' I wouldn't say no to it. It would be interesting to revisit it decades afterwards."
Goyer also addressed some of the difficulties the company has faced adapting the character. "I have been puzzled why they are having so much trouble because they already had Mahershala Ali.

After a few lackluster seasons, Law & Order: Svu Season 27 sounds like a vast improvement.
For starters, Amanda (Kelli Giddish) will be back full-time. It’s a nice reprieve after a revolving door of new characters who haven’t quite fallen into place.
And now, a special episode includes an extensive line-up of returns. However, this makes us wonder if the team is celebrating or mourning Cap. Don Cragen.
(NBC / Virginia Sherwood)
We’re not sure when it will air, but the line-up seems similar to Law & Order: Svu’s 500th episode, and includes Chris Meloni (Elliot Stabler), Brian Cassidy (Dean Winters), and Dr. George Huang (Bd Wong).
While Don Cragen has appeared on Law & Order: Organized Crime, he did not appear on Law & Order: Svu Season 23 Episode 6, which is the show’s milestone 500th episode.

Skydance Television president Matt Thunell is set to oversee Paramount Television Studios following the closing of the two companies’ $8 billion merger. Thunell will report to newly appointed Paramount Pictures co-chair and Paramount Television chair Dana Goldberg.
The Paramount Television Studios label, which is being revived after being shuttered in August 2024, will include Skydance Television and the previously merged Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.
Following its shuttering, Ptvs series and development projects — such as Prime Video’s “Cross” and Apple TV+’s “Before” and “Murderbot” — transitioned to CBS Studios. It remains unclear where oversight of CBS Studios will fall in the new organizational structure.
Taylor Sheridan, whose deal with MTV Entertainment Studios runs through 2028, is expected to be based at Paramount TV Studios going forward. Showtime/MTV Entertainment scripted content head Keith Cox is expected to transition to the new label and continue working with Sheridan.
A spokesperson for Skydance declined to comment.

A year ago, Paramount Television Studios was shuttered in a cost-cutting move as its parent company prepared to merge with Skydance.
With that deal on the verge of closing, the new Paramount is reviving the Paramount TV Studios name — which will in turn absorb one of the company’s two remaining studio operations as well as the formerly independent Skydance Television.
Skydance TV president Matt Thunell is set to lead Paramount TV Studios, reporting to Dana Goldberg, the newly named co-chair of Paramount Pictures (with Josh Greenstein) and chair of Paramount Television.
Reps for Skydance and Paramount hadn’t returned a request for comment as of publication time.
The reconstituted Paramount TV Studios will house productions currently under Showtime/MTV Entertainment, the home of prolific creator Taylor Sheridan (the Yellowstone-verse, Landman et al), Showtime series like the Dexter franchise and The Agency, and Netflix’s Emily in Paris, among others.

As a fan of sci-fi and comedy, it should’ve been a no-brainer that I fell in love with this spring’s Apple TV+ show Murderbot.
Based on a book series by Martha Wells, this show follows a rogue SecUnit, a robot meant to protect people on space expeditions.
(Apple TV+)
The primary focus of the show is the relationship it forms with the group of humans it’s assigned to take care of and how it discovers its own identity.
If you’re looking for a show that has a ton of heart as well as plenty of laughs, you should absolutely tune in before Season 2 drops.
What to Keep In Mind About Murderbot (Apple TV+)
To be honest, it took me some time to really get into the show for a few reasons.
First of all, the show’s marketing pushes Alexander Skarsgard’s role as the lead.

The most special thing about Apple TV+ and its embrace of science fiction isn't the surprisingly broad swath of content available to fans. It's that the service is willing to go back to the era when shows needed time to build their audience, and to really hit their stride. "Foundation" is the herald. It's not just a smart adaptation of an Isaac Asimov series so broad and deep in scope that fans thought it would be impossible to film (especially with its complicated relationship with Asimov's "Robot" novels), but Apple let it keep building up toward a fantastic third season that shows the potential of its author's imagination.
Cerebral, clever, and incredibly well cast, with "Chernobyl" star Jared Harris and the underrated Lee Pace of "The Fall" and "Pushing Daisies" fame, the show puts it all out there for fans to puzzle over, creating a space for fans to crave...

By now, if you’re still watching The Institute on MGM+, you’ve either shut off your emotional processing center or you’re exactly where I am: disgusted, furious, and determined to see every single one of these bastards get what’s coming.
We can’t call it a school, a program, or even a facility. The Institute is an execution machine dressed up in sterilized walls and propaganda posters, and it’s running on the stolen lives of children.
What The Institute Season 1 Episode 5 confirmed, unequivocally, is that these kids are not just being experimented on. They are being used.
(Chris Reardon/MGM+)
Their energy, their psychic “juice,” their humanity is siphoned out and funneled into missions they don’t understand for people they’ve never met. And what’s left of them afterward? That’s “trash.”
We still have no idea what real purpose The Institute serves or who runs it,...

Apple TV+’s new sports comedy Stickhas taken over the U.S. streaming charts, per FlixPatrol. It stayed in the #1 spot for the entire week leading up to July 30. In doing so, it managed to beat out some of the platform’s biggest titles, like Severance, The Studio, and even more recent releases like Foundation and Murderbot. The show premiered on June 4 and wrapped up its first season on July 22. Since then, it’s only picked up more attention, helped by strong word of mouth and a solid 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Stick stars Owen Wilson as Pryce Cahill, a former golf pro who’s now stuck selling golf kits and giving lessons to rich clients. However, his life changes when he spots a teenager sneaking into the club every day to hit shots. Pryce realizes the kid is incredibly talented and decides to coach him. As their bond grows,...

George R.R. Martin, author of the A Song of Ice and Fire books, recently praised Apple TV+'s Murderbot and the science fiction books it's based on. George R.R. Martin is an expert in both writing novels and producing great TV adaptations of them. His books are the basis of Game of Thrones, and he's worked as an executive producer on shows like Dark Winds.
Now, George R.R. Martin shared on his blog that he enjoyed Apple TV+'s Murderbot and that he thought it did "justice" to the books it's based on. Murderbot is based on The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells, and the series of novellas and novels has won both Hugo and Nebula Awards.
The Murderbot stories are always a lot of fun, and the TV show did them justice. I look forward to another series.
It’s nice to see someone doing science fiction right.

Angie Han Once upon a time, when broadcast ruled the roost, summer was a fallow time for TV. The traditional season would end in the spring, to start up again in the fall; it wasn’t that there were no new shows, but they’d be exceptions in a sea of reruns. Of course, that’s all changed in the past couple of decades, with cable and streaming moving the industry to year-round programming. Now there’s always something fresh to watch, whether it’s sweater or flip-flop weather.
Or … is there?
Technically, yes, we still got hundreds of hours of new TV the past few months: starry launches like Apple TV+’s Murderbot and Netflix’s Sirens and Too Much; new seasons of recent hits like Netflix’s Squid Game, Peacock’s Poker Face and FX/Hulu’s The Bear; revivals of older smashes like Showtime’s Dexter (in...

George R.R. Martin has named a new Star Wars television series as the highlight of 2025 in a glowing review of the latest shows and films he's watched. He called it "the best of the Star Wars spinoffs."
In a new post on his official website, Martin talked about watching Superman as well as some television series he's been enjoying recently. He ultimately named Andor as "this year's highlight," writing, "Far and away the best of the Star Wars spinoffs. Looked gorgeous, Diego Luna was first-rate, and there was a realism and tension to the story that was sadly lacking in most of the other spinoffs. It's nice to see someone doing science fiction right."
Martin also enjoyed seeing James Gunn's new take on Superman. " Supes and I are old friends, and this is one of the best Superman movies in a long time... maybe ever," he wrote. "This new...

In a recent blog post, renowned Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin shared his opinions on two of the biggest—and most divisive—franchises in modern popular culture: Star Wars and DC.
After noting that he’s enjoyed shows like Apple TV+’s Murderbot, he shared a more in-depth review on a Star Wars spinoff we loved here at Winter is Coming.
“Andor was this year’s highlight, though. Far and away the best of the Star Wars spinoffs," Martin wrote on July 25. "Looked gorgeous, Diego Luna was first rate, and there was a realism and tension to the story that was sadly lacking in most of the other spinoffs. It’s nice to see someone doing science fiction right.”
Indeed, Martin’s statement echoes many a sentiment shared by Star Wars fans across the globe, the vast majority of whom were enthralled by Andor’s explosive mix of political intrigue and high-stakes drama.

Murderbot has become one of Apple TV+'s most prominent shows, but one of its stars thought that it would never be seen at all. Led by Alexander Skarsgård, the show revolves around an android who unexpectedly acquires free will and must reckon with the truth of his existence while protecting a group of scientists.
The show was based on Martha Wells' The Murderbot Diaries series, and not all the stories have been covered. Season 1 was released on May 16, and it has already been renewed for a second season, which should focus on the next three books. Yet, for all of its success, one star never expected to get this far.

Adapted from Martha Wells’ All Systems Red, the Apple TV+ series Murderbot is officially coming back for Season 2, and it’s about time. This might just be the start of adapting all the books in order, and honestly, we’re here for it. The story about a Security Android (SecUnit) that hacks its own governor module to gain free will is one of the funniest, most heartfelt sci-fi shows to ever hit the platform.
Between a disaster-prone crew and a soap opera–addicted robot just trying to be left alone, the first season was chaotic in the best way. And that finale? A perfect setup for what’s next. With Season 2 on the way, it looks like they’re sticking to the book order, and if that’s true, there’s one book that deserves the spotlight next.

Fountain of Youth was incredibly hyped when it came out in May 2025. Guy Ritchie made an old-fashioned adventure flick starring John Krasinski as a charming treasure hunter and Natalie Portman as his more cautious sister. The Apple TV+ movie took viewers into sinking ships, grand libraries and underground death traps -- and garnered a lot of comparisons to Indiana Jones.
All the critical reviews pointed towards the film going into the dustbin of cinematic achievement... and then something funny happened. Initially, Fountain of Youth performed well not only in America, but around the world. However, per FlixPatrol, the movie's magical streaming run is coming to an end.
According to FlixPatrol, July 17 is the first time Fountain of Youth has fallen down the charts since its May 23 release. It's still the No. 1 movie on Apple TV+ but on the overall streaming chart from Amazon Channels, it's down to No. 8.

For a long time, Ted Lasso was Apple TV+’s undisputed comedy king. Grumpy heroes, weird adventures, and plenty of attitude — your next obsession starts here.

Late Night with Seth Meyers hasn't been heard from in weeks, but there is finally good news on the horizon for the NBC late-night show. Host Seth Meyers will be back behind the desk on Monday night as Late Night ends its hiatus.
Like most late-night shows, Late Night went dark around the end of June. The last new episode came on June 26 before the show closed its doors for an extended break. It left a noticeable void with Meyers' keen insight in the day's headlines.
Look for Meyers to make up for lost time on Monday night. There will be a brand-new episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers.
It's a safe bet to assume "A Closer Look" will be on the schedule for Late Night's return. The only real question is which story Meyers and his staff want to focus on after keeping quiet for two weeks.

“Murderbot” Season 1 ends with the titular robo finally managing to make the connections with people like it’s seen on its many serials – only to decide to leave them and forge its own path.
The finale ends with Murderbot (Alexander Skarsgård) and the Preservation Ops team returning to Port FreeCommerce after their mission went up in flames. The team worked hard to get Murderbot back into their possession and its wiped memory and personality – developed courtesy of his busted governor module – restored. When all is said and done, and despite the fact that Murderbot defied the odds and grew to care about the team, it makes the decision to sneak away in the night and explore alone.
“One of the reasons that we wanted to do this is that we felt that the book had a really beautiful ending, and it put his finger on something thematic, which is the...

Director Robert Eggersdelivered the biggest hit of his career only a few months ago, making good on a decade-long promise to become one of the foremost genre filmmakers of his generation. Despite the critical acclaim that he'd been showered with, not to mention the devoted cult following he'd earned for himself, Eggers hadn't made a bona fide blockbuster before Nosferatu last year. His previous attempt, the revenge saga The Northman, had flopped at the box office. However, the movie was a major hit on the PVOD market. It's now witnessing a resurgence on HBO Max, coinciding with the finale of star Alexander Skarsgård's Apple TV+ series Murderbot.
Released in 2022, The Northman debuted to excellent reviews, with particular praise being directed at the film's ambitious scope and Eggers' handling of the action sequences. It holds a "certified fresh" 90% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics' consensus reads,...
