The Emmys, when compared with the Oscars and Golden Globes, are the most predictable of the screen media awards. If you watch the Emmys long enough, you become familiar with the Television Academy's game.
It's as simple as this: They choose a handful of shows they like, and make them sweep their genre categories, sometimes multiple years in a row. Notable examples of this phenomenon include "Game of Thrones," "Succession," and "The Bear." How many times did "RuPaul's Drag Race" win Outstanding Reality Competition Program despite middling seasons? If a show was good once, the Academy will lazily default to awarding the show consistently instead of critically assessing the quality of individual seasons.

It’s a feat in itself that “The Amazing Race” has been on for nearly 24 years now. However, perhaps the most amazing aspect of the CBS reality competition show is actually just how much coordination goes into making a race around the world.
For Season 37, 14 teams of two traveled across nine countries, 18 cities and over 29,000 miles to the finish line, earning six Emmy nominations in the process: Picture Editing, Cinematography, Sound Mixing, Directing, Casting and Outstanding Reality Competition Program.
According to series co-creators and real-life couple Elise Doganieri and Bertram van Munster, it’s a life-changing experience for everyone involved that you cannot find anywhere else.

Israeli filmmaker Yariv Mozer, whose documentary We Will Dance Again recently won a News and Documentary Emmy, has signed a first-look deal with Tel Aviv–based studio Sipur. The company said the pact is meant to “bring his next chapter to life,” while Mozer called Sipur “the home where I’ve found the freedom and support to tell meaningful stories.” The agreement follows the global rollout of We Will Dance Again, which premiered on Paramount+ last September and recounts survivors’ experiences at the Nova music festival during the Oct. 7 attack.
The deal formalizes an ongoing relationship. Sipur previously partnered with Mozer on The Devil’s Confession: The Lost Eichmann Tapes, a docuseries built around rediscovered recordings of the Nazi official; U.S. distribution on that project ran through Amazon’s MGM Television, which also maintains a separate first-look arrangement with Sipur. The studio has positioned itself as a bridge to...

Disney is being sued by Marian Price for the way she’s depicted in the FX series “Say Nothing,” which suggests she’s guilty of an execution-style murder.
Price – a former Provisional Irish Republican Army volunteer – filed her defamation complaint in Dublin High Court on July 2. Her issue with the series revolves around the assertion that she was involved in the murder of Jean McConville – a Belfast mother of 10. The “Say Nothing” finale shows Price – played in the series by Hazel Doupe – killing McConville by shooting her in the back of the head.
In the filing, Price called for damages from Disney and Minim UK Productions and the removal of the execution scene. The lawsuit comes after Price – who now goes by Marian McGlinchey – threatened to sue in November 2024 shortly after the series premiered on FX.

John Early’s ‘Maddie’s Secret,’ Nadia Latif’s ‘The Man in My Basement’ Join Toronto Film Fest Lineup
Comedy actor and writer John Early has added director to his resume as he brings his first feature, Maddie’s Secret, to open the Toronto Film Festival Discovery sidebar for first-time and emerging filmmakers.
The film about Maddie, a Food Network content creator trying not to allow her dark past to pierce her perfect veneer, stars many of Early’s colleagues in the L.A. stand-up comedy scene, including Kate Berlant, Vanessa Bayer and Connor O’Malley.
In all, Discovery programmers have assembled 23 world premieres for their 25th edition. Also booked into the Toronto section is director Nadia Latif’s The Man in My Basement, which plays with the horror genre and stars Corey Hawkins as an African American man about to lose his family’s home, until a white businessman (Willem Dafoe) offers to rent his basement to clear his debts in a deal he chose not to refuse, but should have.
