One day longer and hosting unveils of big, big must-check-out series such as Paramount’s “King & Conqueror,” Fremantle’s “Sandokan” and BBC Studios reboot “Walking With Dinosaurs,” this week’s London TV Screenings did nothing to dent its recent status in a new biz order as one of Europe’s two key TV markets alongside October’s Mipcom.
It was these titles and a brace of classy star-studded crime thrillers – Andrew Lincoln’s “Cold Water,” Jesse Williams’ “Costiera,” Mark Gatiss’ “Bookish,” “Maigret” with Benjamin Wainwright – which looked to be moving the needle at this year’s London Screenings, which unspooled Feb. 23-28.
“We are very positively surprised to see that the London TV Screenings has quickly become a key gathering for European fiction,” said José Antonio Salso at Spain’s Atresmedia TV.

Directed by Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormákur, King & Conqueror tells the story of Harold, Earl of Wessex (played by Norton), and William, Duke of Normandy (portrayed by Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). The series takes a raw, unfiltered approach to medieval history, capturing the intensity of battle and the personal struggles of its central figures.
James Norton may have looked fresh-faced when he greeted the audience at the London Screenings, but filming King & Conqueror was anything but glamorous. The actor recalled the tough conditions while shooting in Iceland, saying, “I was covered in mud and blood and layers of leather, it was a brutal shoot.”
From the start, Kormákur had a clear vision for the show’s tone and style. Norton explained, “He had a very clear vision around the tone and the aesthetic – from the very beginning he wanted to avoid this being a clean, cozy period drama.

Exclusive: James Norton was fresh-faced as he greeted a London Screenings crowd to talk about his upcoming period drama King & Conqueror, but that was not the case during filming in Iceland. “I was covered in mud and blood and layers of leather, it was a brutal shoot,” the star said.
Icelandic helmer Baltasar Kormákur directed the first episode and was heavily involved in the series, which brings an historical tale of Harold, Earl of Wessex (Norton), and William, Duke of Normandy (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), to life.
The result is a gritty and earthy look. “He had a very clear vision around the tone and the aesthetic – from the very beginning he wanted to avoid this being a clean, cozy period drama,” Norton explained.
“It took me hours every day to get ready because I had layer after layer of leather and chain mail. It paid dividends because you can see everything is so authentic.

James Norton will be on hand to talk about his historical epic King & Conqueror as Paramount Global ushers buyers into the Curzon Cinema in London’s Soho later this week. Giving clients a first look at the period drama is top of mind for Lisa Kramer, President, International Content Licensing at Paramount Global Content Distribution. The studio exec and her team will also be pushing hard on selling premium originals from Paramount+ to buyers, with second window sales a bigger priority for premium tentpoles.
London offers a moment for the Hollywood studio to see clients before the LA Screenings in May. Some mid-season network shows have hit the air and there’s a helpful pause before acquisition execs head to LA to watch new network series. Because of that, London is a better bet for the U.S. heavyweights than the now defunct MIPTV.

The London TV Screenings, or London Screenings for short, the global TV industry event running Feb. 23-28, is ready for its close-up. The once low-key affair, where networks and sales outfits screen their latest shows for international buyers, has grown to can’t-miss status over the years. 2025 will be London Screenings’ time to shine, particularly without any competition from the now-defunct Mip TV.
That said, Mip will be holding its own inaugural Mip London event during the week, featuring panel discussions on industry trends, hot new properties from the likes of South Korea and Japan, as well as a session with David Beckham and Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria.
The London Screenings come at an inflection point for the global TV industry. After a sustained boom in high-end drama, networks, and streamers are again cutting costs and betting more on lower-cost non-fiction and reality shows. In the fiction arena,...

While fans of Netflix's flashy spy series The Recruitwould love to see star Noah Centineo play the next James Bond, English actor James Norton is the current frontrunner. As of mid-February 2025, Oddschecker has Norton and Aaron Taylor-Johnson tied with the shortest betting odds to play 007 in Bond 26, with each given a 5/2 chance of winning the role. However, once Bond producers and casting agents see Norton in the underrated spy drama Rogue Agent, Norton's odds could increase considerably.
Released in 2022, Rogue Agent stars Norton as a conniving criminal who tricks the world into believing he is a top-ranking MI5 agent. Although he is not, Norton's performative ability to convince those around him that he's a skilled spy only bolsters his chances of proving his James Bond bona fides. Meanwhile, those drawn to The Recruit's stylish implausibility will enjoy Rogue Agent's extreme twists and turns.

The David and Goliath tale gets a new epic retelling in the trailer for Prime Video’s House of David
It’s perhaps the greatest underdog story next to Rocky. Heck, it’s used as a phrase to describe a match-up that seems so unevenly matched. The David and Goliath tale is one of the most popular stories in the Bible. It tells of a normal man who went up against the fiercest warrior in the land in the biggest size difference imaginable. Amazon’s House of David is a series that will retell the story in eight epic episodes. Three episodes will premiere on February 27, with one episode weekly thereafter. The trailer has just been released.
The official description reads,
“House Of David tells the story of the ascent of the biblical figure, David, who eventually becomes the most renowned and celebrated king of Israel. The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride. At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely,...

Quick Links Nikolaj Wields Swords And Armies In A New Series From Fantasy To Historical Epic His Character's Historical Motivations Are Much Different From Jaime's
Since he graced the small screen on HBO's epic fantasy series Game Of Thrones, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has been a hidden gem among this new generation of actors in Hollywood. Audiences loved to hate him and also saw him grow as Jaime Lannister, but his career on the big screen in Hollywood has only manifested smaller roles. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will always be known for his role as Jaime Lannister in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, but soon he’ll venture back into the world of swords and horses for another series that’s coming soon. Waldau will star alongside James Norton in King & Conqueror. The upcoming show follows William of Normandy (Coster-Waldau) and Harold of Wessex (Norton), two men who started as allies but were driven into conflict over a desire for the British crown during the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Norton shared the first images from the series on his personal Instagram, and he spoke about the series in an interview with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt earlier this year, praising his cast members — Eddie Marsan, Juliet Stevenson, Emily Beecham, and Clémence Poésy in particular — while also touting the show’s historical accuracy and ability to stay on the path.

James Norton has revealed he was set on playing William the Conqueror in upcoming Middle Ages drama series “King and Conqueror” but was thwarted by HBO, who had an option on the actor for another series.
Norton, who is also an executive producer on the upcoming BBC/CBS show about the iconic Battle of Hastings, was already starring in Joss Whedon’s HBO sci-fi series “The Nevers” when he began developing “King and Conqueror.” Under the terms of his HBO contract, he was not allowed to appear in another returning series, meaning his only option was to play Anglo-Saxon king Harold, who famously died on the battlefield in 1066 after being shot in the eye with an arrow.
“HBO said very clearly, ‘You can go and shoot “King and Conquer,” especially considering you’re an EP and you’re developing it, but you must die,” Norton revealed during a panel about “King and Conqueror” at U.

Sometimes casting can be a completely creative process and sometimes contracts can get in the way.
With CBS Studios’ upcoming King and Conqueror about Harold of Wessex and William the Conqueror, it was a fair bit of the latter.
Star James Norton revealed at Content London this morning that he initially wanted to play William who (spoiler alert) slays Harold at the great Battle of Hastings, but HBO had other ideas. At the time production was ramping up, Norton was starring in HBO series The Nevers, and HBO didn’t want him to commit too strongly to King and Conqueror. The get-out was obvious.

In the production village, producer Grímar Jónsson and other crew members are taking a coffee and pastry break in an Rv near a picture car on a truck bed in what appears to be a crater. It makes sense that stars and celebrities from nearby Hollywood occasionally show up to take in a basketball game, and maybe the Lakers are used to that kind of thing. Adar has been recast in The Rings of Power season 2, and the actor change might leave viewers wondering why Joseph Mawle is no longer portraying the character. Adar is a character original to The Rings of Power, and he plays a fairly mysterious role throughout season 1. It's later revealed that he's one of the Elves who was tortured by Morgoth. And The Rings of Power season 2 shows how he tried to kill Sauron, preventing him from reigning over the Orcs. This is why the Orcs call him "father," and it's why they help him conquer the Southlands.
Mawle plays Adar impressively in The Rings of Power season 1, conveying the villain's bitterness over his past and compassion for the Orcs with ease. The actor's performance makes Adar a compelling character, even though he's an antagonist. After Mawle's stint as Benjen Stark in Game of Thrones, it's no surprise the actor fit...

The Game of Thrones verse follows the ritual of ‘Wed, bed, behead’ instead of the popular game ‘Kiss, marry, kill’. Emilia Clarke, who portrayed the role of Daenerys Targaryen, seems to be hinting at some bedding activities between certain characters!

There were hundreds of things wrong with the final season of Game of Thrones. However, what the people can agree upon is that the show had an impeccable cast when it came to portraying the characters.

Exclusive: In Playing Nice James Norton stars as Pete, a doting dad who finds out his son was switched at birth, giving him a different kind of hero to portray. “He’s a kind of small hero,” Norton told Deadline. “Unlike most of the characters I’ve played, he’s very likable, very amenable and recognizable. There’s a simplicity to him, which I hadn’t really played before, and a likability and quietness that made him feel very real.”

Alfred Herrhausen, born in 1930, was the chairman of Deutsche Bank. But to the team behind German series “Herrhausen – The Banker and the Bomb,” premiering at Series Mania, he was a “visionary.”
“He was a humane banker, always looking into the future. What you see in this show is a person who tries to do something new and others prevent him from doing it. They say: ‘We have never done it before.’ He says: ‘Well, that’s the definition of the word ‘new,’” says actor Oliver Masucci.
The show, written by Thomas Wendrich, premieres the trailer in exclusivity with Variety.
Before taking on Herrhausen, Masucci gained prominence thanks to Netflix’s “Dark.” Next, he will be seen in the BBC and CBS Studios show “King and Conqueror” alongside Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as William the Conqueror.
“When we think of bankers now, we think of absolute capitalists. But he kept saying we needed to shift our perspective.
