Years before they made their Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts, Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie starred in the war movie The Hurt Locker together. The film will be streaming for free on Tubi beginning March 1.
Renner starred as Sergeant First Class William James in The Hurt Locker, alongside Mackie as Sergeant J.T. Sanborn. The film follows a bomb disposal team as they are targeted by insurgents in Baghdad, including their psychological reactions to the stress of being in active combat. As their tour of duty continues, the group faces increasingly hazardous situations as their lives hang in the balance. The Hurt Locker was directed by Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) and written by Mark Boal, who drew on his experience as a journalist embedded with troops and bomb squads during the Iraq War.
