Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut will reveal the nominations for the 2025 Golden Globes on Monday, Dec. 9, the organization announced Tuesday.

All 27 categories of the 82nd Annual Golden Globes will be announced on CBSNews.com/GoldenGlobes and the CBS News Mobile App beginning at 8:15 a.m. Et/5:15 a.m. Pt. Ten categories will be simultaneously unveiled on “CBS Mornings” on CBS at 8:30 a.m. Et/5:30 a.m. Pt.

The Golden Globes also confirmed on Tuesday that the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award and the Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television Award, both of which were introduced at the previous ceremony, will be handed out again. Last year’s winners were “Barbie” and “Ricky Gervais: Armageddon,” respectively.

Last cycle, “Oppenheimer” led the film field with five awards, including Best Drama Picture, en route to its seven Oscar wins.

BAFTA, Emmy, and Golden Globe winning comedian Ricky Gervais will return with a no doubt controversial new Netflix special, Mortality. His latest routine, titled Ricky Gervais: Mortality, is now all set to launch later this year and will run to the end of 2025, according to a report by Variety. As per a press release, the show will take Gervais to all of his favorite arenas around the world, before landing on Netflix at a currently unknown date.

Were all gonna die. May as well have a laugh about it. Mortality looks at the absurdities of life. And death. Bring it on, Gervais said in a statement.

Comedian Ricky Gervais on Thursday announced “Ricky Gervais: Mortality”,” a tour he’ll head out on later this year, which will run through the end of 2025 and culminate in a new special for Netflix.

The special will be Gervais’ fourth for the streamer, on the heels of Armageddon, Humanity and SuperNature. Released last year, Armageddon was No. 1 on Netflix’s most-watched list for a period, earning him the inaugural Golden Globe recognizing stand-up comics. That special came on the heels of a record-breaking international tour, which saw him sell out 85 arena dates and set a Guinness world record at the Hollywood Bowl with the highest-grossing stand-up performance in history.

In a statement on his new tour, Gervais said, “We’re all gonna die. May as well have a laugh about it. Mortality looks at the absurdities of life. And death. Bring it on.”

Netflix released over a dozen stand-up specials in the second half of last year and Matt Rife was the most-watched.

Matt Rife: Natural Selection, which was released in November, was watched for 13.5M hours. This was above specials from the likes of Shane Gillis, Tom Segura and Mike Birbiglia as well as Ricky Gervais, Trevor Noah and Dave Chappelle (although the latter three launched theirs very late in December).

On the back of that special, Rife has been signed up for two further specials and is now developing a sitcom at the streamer.

Netflix has dominated the stand-up scene for some time now and recently launched the second iteration of its Netflix Is A Joke festival, where it had many of the biggest names in comedy across LA for two weeks.

The streamer is starting to find itself with some competition after Hulu announced it was going to compete with the rival streamer for specials.

Hosted by comedian Jo Koy, the 81st annual awards ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, and those who missed watching the show live can stream it on demand on Paramount+. Globes producer Dick Clark Productions is owned by Penske Media Eldridge, a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge that also owns The Hollywood Reporter.

HBO’s Succession won best TV drama series, best actress in a TV drama series (Sarah Snook), best actor in a TV drama series (Kieran Culkin), best supporting actor in a TV series (Matthew Macfadyen), and it led the led the small-screen nominees with nine nods. Heading into Sunday’s Golden Globe ceremony, Ricky Gervais was not confident he would win the first-ever award for Best TV Stand-Up Comedy Performance. “I’m nominated for another Golden Globe tonight,” he wrote early Sunday about his “Armageddon” Netflix special. “Won’t win, but it’s nice to still be up there in the mix, flying the flag.” Well, he did end up winning, but he wasn’t in attendance to accept his prize.

Hours after the ceremony wrapped up, Gervais posted a three-word acceptance speech on social media as only he could: “I f***ing won!” The comedian accompanied the remark with a photo of him holding a Golden Globe from when he hosted the ceremony years earlier — see below.

Gervais later followed that up with some more, shall we say, heartfelt words of wisdom.

The 2024 Golden Globes were handed out Sunday night, with Oppenheimer, Barbie, Poor Things and Anatomy of a Fall among the films winning multiple awards.

Oppenheimer was named best motion picture, drama, with Christopher Nolan taking home the directing award for his work on the movie. Poor Things won the Globe for best motion picture, musical or comedy. Anatomy of a Fall won the film for best non-English-language motion picture, while The Boy and the Heron was named best animated film.

On the TV side, Succession was named best drama series, while The Bear was named best TV series, musical or comedy.

Lily Gladstone, Paul Giamatti, Emma Stone, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Allen White, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Ayo Edebiri, Kieran Cullkin, Ali Wong, Steven Yeun and Matthew Macfadyen were among the winners in the acting categories. No, you’re not going crazy: the Golden Globes will be presenting a brand new award for Best TV Stand-Up Comedy Performance during the Sunday, January 7 telecast. The six inaugural nominees are some of the funniest emcees working today, but it’s Chris Rock who is predicted to make history by becoming the category’s first-ever winner, per Gold Derby odds.
