By the time he exploded onto the scene alongside the rest of the cast behind Prime Video’s The Boys, Jack Quaid had already begun to make a name for himself in the film and television industry. Despite being the child of two incredibly famous performers (Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan), Quaid waited to step into the spotlight until well into his teenage years, thanks to early roles in titles like The Hunger Games, and Just Before I Go. But it was through Eric Kripke’s adaptation of the blood-soaked comics, first penned by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, that Quaid’s career really took off. Now, with the fifth and final season currently in production, fans are wondering about the fates of many of their favorites — including Quaid’s Hughie.

Meera Simhan has been cast in ABC’s comedy pilot “The Son in Law,” Variety has learned.

Simhan will play Khushi Mehta, Asha’s (Reema Sampat) high-strung philanthropist mother. The show follows Asha’s relationship with Jake (Chris Sullivan), a plumber who is older and significantly less wealthy than Asha and her family, of which Asha’s mother disapproves. Khushi’s husband, Om, is the conductor of the New York Philharmonic, but back in the day, Khushi’s own parents disapproved of her relationship. Ever the charmer, Khushi is well connected in Manhattan’s wealthy social scene, and she doesn’t even attempt to hide her feelings about Jake and his desire to marry Asha, much to Asha’s dismay.

Exclusive: Spike Einbinder (Los Espookys), Greta Lee (The Morning Show), Laith Nakli (Ramy), Larry Owens (High Maintenance), Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet), RZA (Wu-Tang: An American Saga), James Scully (You), and Greta Titelman (Search Party) have joined the cast of the untitled film that four-time Emmy nominee Julio Torres is directing for A24, in his feature debut.

The film’s plot is being kept under wraps. Torres is directing from his own screenplay and also co-stars with Oscar winner Tilda Swinton.

Emma Stone and Dave McCary’s Fruit Tree is producing alongside A24, with the latter handling the film’s worldwide distribution.

Einbinder has appeared on the TV side in Los Espookys (the HBO series Torres created with Fred Armisen and Ana Fabrega), High Maintenance and Horace and Pete. They’ll next appear in the final season of HBO Max’s Search Party.

“Castle Rock” and “Heavenly Creatures” star Melanie Lynskey is slated to portray the victim of real-life infamous murderess Candy Montgomery in a new Hulu limited series, entitled “Candy.” She will play Betty Gore, the small Texas town teacher, wife and mother who was axed to death on Friday the 13th, June 1980 in her laundry room by her church friend. The titular killer will be played by Jessica Biel.

Three-time Emmy nominee Robin Veith wrote the pilot script of “Candy,” and MIchael Uppendahl will direct it. Both will executive produce. Nick Antosca will serve as executive producer under his banner Eat the Cat along with Alex Hedlund. Biel and Michelle Purple will serve as executive producers for Iron Ocean. Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Luke Grimes (Yellowstone), Nico Santos (Crazy Rich Asians) and Blythe Danner (I’ll See You in My Dreams) have signed on to star in Happiness for Beginners, a Netflix romantic comedy from writer-director Vicky Wight.

The film is based on Katherine Center’s novel of the same name and centers on Helen (Kemper), who signs up for a wilderness survival course a year after getting divorced. She discovers through this experience that in getting she has found herself.

Wight is producing the film with Geoff Linville and Berry Meyerowitz. Jeff Sackman and Larry Greenburg are its executive producers. Information on the roles to be played by Grimes, Santos and Danner has not yet been disclosed.

The first slate of Paramount Plus Originals for Latin America will feature new series from “The Hateful Eight’s” Demián Bichir, “Luis Miguel” lead Diego Boneta, and Brazilian online phenom Porta Dos Fundos.

Paramount Plus and ViacomCBS International Studios on Thursday also confirmed that their new slate of premium original content is set to premiere in Latin America, including Brazil, from early as third quarter 2021.

It’s happening. It’s finally happening. What was once a particularly pervasive and aggressive Internet meme is now a reality. HBO Max’s list of new releases for March 2021 is highlighted by none other than the mythical Snyder cut.

The entity now known as Zach Snyder’s Justice League will premiere on March 18. While it was originally planned to be a four-part miniseries, this recut version of 2017’s ill-fated Justice League will in fact be a four-hour movie. The Writers Lab in the US, the non-profit for female screenwriters over 40 that counts Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman among its supporters, is partnering on an international platform with Untamed Stories in the UK and Spain’s Filmmarket Hub.

The collaboration will expand the reach of The Writers Lab beyond the US for the first time. Elizabeth Kaiden and Nitza Wilon co-founded the lab in 2015 and produce it with New York Women in Film & Television (Nywftv).

Hulu is out with its list of everything new coming and going in March, and the new additions include the three-episode series premiere of “Little Fires Everywhere” starring Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon, and the premiere of the Hillary Clinton documentary “Hillary.”

Those two shows premiere March 18 and March 6, respectively. Other highlights include “Into the Dark: Crawlers,” about body-switching aliens and also out on March 6; the complete second season of “Love Island: Australia” coming March 13, and the two-episode series premiere of “Devs” starring Nick Offerman on March 6.

March sees the beginning of one of TV's more interesting experiment in 2020. Hulu's new releases for March 2020 are highlighted by the launch of the torturously-named "FX on Hulu" in which certain FX shows will premiere exclusively on Hulu.

Yes, when Disney set out up the entertainment industry, it gained more brands than it knew what to do with. And that's how you get stuff like FX on Hulu. Stifler’s about to get a “Lethal Weapon.” Fox has ordered a third season of the hit action drama after a last minute scramble to replace the lead role opposite Damon Wayans.

Seann William Scott (from the “American Pie” franchise) has joined the show in his first network series role as a new character who folds into a partnership with Murtaugh (Wayans).

“Seann is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast,” said Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn. “’Lethal Weapon’ is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can’t wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen. Matt Miller, his incredible team and everyone at Warner Bros. have been tremendous partners, and we’re thrilled to bring this show back for another season.”

It almost didn’t happen. After clashes on set between star Clayne Crawford and Wayans, Crawford was fired — and the show was in jeopardy.

Back in 2011 Seann William Scott starred in the Canadian-American sports comedy “Goon,” directed by Michael Dowse and written by Jay Baruchel and Evan Goldberg. The film, which was the surprise of the summer, followed a dimwitted man who becomes the enforcer for a minor league ice hockey team. Now six years later, Scott and almost all of the original cast is back in the sequel “Goon: Last of the Enforcers.”

Making his directorial feature debut, Baruchel serves as director and returns as co-writer, this time with Jesse Chabot. The comedy once again follows Doug Glatt (Scott) who, after being forced to give up his aspirations of going to the big show, rejoins the Halifax Highlanders to reclaim his former glory. Blackhat What an ugly week for new DVD and Blu-ray releases. It's hard to even take it seriously, but at the top of the heap (only because it's the first one I'm writing about) is Michael Mann's supremely disappointing Blackhat. Mortdecai I skipped this one and I feel no shame in doing so. In fact, that's all I'm going to say about it.

Still Alice Okay, now this isn't a bad film, I guess I just get frustrated every time I see it mentioned because Julianne Moore did not deliver the best female performance last year and yet, here we are, Oscar winner Julianne Mooore... because "it was her time".

The Cobbler I could have sworn this had already been released, but I guess I was wrong.

Courteney Cox has some clear advice to Friends fans hankering for a reunion: Give it up.

The actress is the latest of the sitcom's stars to dispel rumors of a get-together, playfully telling Yahoo! Style in a video interview, "Dear lord, let it go, people, we're not doing it. It's just not gonna happen."

Cox, 50, whose directorial debut Just Before I Go premiered last week, did manage to tease a fantasy spin-off for her quirky character on the series, Monica Gellar.

"Oh, Monica's gonna do a movie. Yeah, just not the whole Friends," she said, laughing. "No, it's gonna be called Hangin' with Monica.

From first-time feature director Courteney Cox, the off-center dramedy Just Before I Go follows Ted Morgan (Seann William Scott), who has been treading water for most of his life. After his wife leaves him, Ted decides to go home and face or confront the people he feels are responsible for turning him into who he has become. Actress Courtney Cox makes her directorial debut with Just Before I Go, based on the first feature screenplay from television alum David Flebotte. Attempting to navigate a trajectory of meaningful emotional pathos through a gutter of adult humor many write off as mere vulgarity, Cox’s film ultimately feels like the R rated version of some made-for-tv film as it attempts to extend the horizon of outsider ennui to all origins of suicidal tendency. The film isn’t without a laugh or two, but a severe tonal swerve from black comedy to sentimental PSA seems more silly than sincere, and the narrative just simply isn’t strong enough to correctly reconcile the supposed melancholy of its likeable protagonist with such a pedestrian resolution.

Just Before I Go revolves around the unfulfilled Ted Morgan (Scott) returning to his hometown to settle a score with his high school bully before committing suicide.

Things don't go quite to plan as the bully, Rawly Stansfield (Scott), has a plan of his own for Ted to make up for his past mistakes.

Cox has enlisted Olivia Thirlby, Kate Walsh, Elisha Cuthbert, Kyle Gallner and Evan Ross for the supporting cast of Just Before I Go.

Her former husband David Arquette also appears as a harried middle-aged father of young kids.

Just Before I Go opens on April 24 in select Us theatres and on VOD.
