What happened to Steve!?

Did they ever say what happened to the guy who went to brush his teeth?

Also they don't explain why she cut contact with her adoptive parents. Without that missing context, she comes off sounding like a terrible person herself. Regardless of the terrible situation she went through.

PTSD her whole life

I really don't blame her for not being in contact with her parents. They ignored her entire life of dealing with racism, apparently made no effort to find other Koreans to give her some connection to people who look like her. They probably adopted her out of some church duty. They didn't come off very good at all. Also, what happened to her date? It doesn't take that long to brush your teeth.
