Apple TV+ has given the greenlight to a second season of its debut German original Where’s Wanda?.
Starring Heike Makatsch (Love Actually) and Axel Stein (The Vault), the dark comedy follows the Klatts. Just as they thought their lives were finally returning to normal, their daughter Wanda (Lea Drinda) is caught seemingly red-handed, standing over a dead body. They will need to do everything in their power to prove her innocence and to avoid losing her again, as their investigation to find the real murderer takes them into the criminal underbelly of their sleepy suburban town.
Where’s Wanda? is produced by Germany’s UFA Fiction. It is one of a number of Apple TV+ non-English language shows, joining the likes of France’s La Maison and Spain’s You Would Do It Too. Yesterday, Apple launched Berlin ER, the German-language medical drama co-created by former emergency room physician-turned-screenwriter Samuel Jefferson.

Alex Berger of “The Bureau” producer Top (The Oligarchs Productions), prolific Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan (“Aníkúlápó”) and Sydney Gallonde of Paris-based outfit Make it Happens Studios are among the headliners of the Salon International du Contenu Audiovisuel d’Abidjan (Sica), a three-day industry event that takes place Nov. 5 – 7 in Ivory Coast.
Now in its second year, Sica is an initiative of the Ivorian Ministry of Communication that looks to position Abidjan — the cultural and economic capital of the West African nation — as the hub of the film and TV industries in French-speaking Africa.
Organizers say the event also aims to open a “new era of innovative and diversified content” for local creators while establishing the host country as a “central platform for the promotion, development and distribution of African and international audiovisual content.”
More than 250 industry professionals are slated to attend this year’s edition, including producers, distributors, broadcasters and investors from 15 countries.

I must admit I was quite disappointed by the first two episodes of La Maison, because the French drama was both convoluted and a little bit boring. However, I have to apologize for my earlier misconception because episode 3 has switched things up and finally put things into perspective. I was so confused about who Paloma was after seeing the first two episodes because the second one is titled “Nepo Baby,” and so my brain immediately thought she was Vincent’s child. However, I was so off the mark that the arrow didn’t even make it on the board. Episode 3 is all about Paloma’s role at the couture house and how she’s going to switch things up and save the Maison. We all know how complicated family businesses can be, but this family makes the fashion industry look worse than the political world, at least according to Vincent’s brother-in-law,...

La Maison is a new drama series that takes viewers into the stylish yet cutthroat world of high fashion. Created by José Caltagirone and Valentine Milville, the 10-episode, one-season show was released in 2024 exclusively on Apple TV+. At its center are two of Paris’s most prominent fashion houses, the old-guard Ledu and the larger luxury conglomerate Rovel, as their rivalry turns personal.
Ledu has been a leading name in the industry for generations, led by the esteemed yet arrogant Vincent Ledu. But when a viral video exposes Vincent’s racist remarks, he loses his position of power. Meanwhile, ambitious Diane Rovel sees an opportunity to acquire her rival’s esteemed brand for her growing luxury empire.
As the drama unfolds, family secrets emerge while new allegiances form. Perle Foster, Vincent’s former muse, rises to steer Ledu through turbulent waters. She brings on young upstart Paloma Castel, hoping her...

As a setting for a TV show, fashion is a little like the restaurant industry: a rich, untapped source of detail and conflict, hindered by the logistical complexity of bringing its insular world to the screen. And just as “The Bear” was preceded by a legion of competitive reality shows, plus a misbegotten adaptation of Anthony Bourdain’s “Kitchen Confidential” starring a young Bradley Cooper, the French drama “La Maison” is the latest of many attempts to make couture into compelling drama. “Project Runway” remains an unscripted institution, but recent scripted efforts have ranged from dutifully reverential (“Becoming Karl Lagerfeld”) to confoundingly inept.
Unlike these earlier series, which fictionalized the lives of icons like Yves Saint Laurent and Coco Chanel, “La Maison” gives itself the freedom to take liberties. Perhaps relatedly, it’s by far the strongest of the recent efforts to graft fashion onto entertainment. Created and showrun by...

The first two episodes of AppleTV+’s La Maison play out like it’s something that’s popped out of the late 2010s. Despite being a TV show about fashion set in Paris, the heart of haute couture, the actual clothing looks dated and drab. So, as you can imagine, rather than being about fashion itself, just like its predecessors (the gazillion fashion house biopics) this year, La Maison is more drama. The family feud is ridiculously boring, and there’s literally nothing that’ll keep you strapped to the seat for this one if you’re not keen on the dramatics. However, if you’re looking for a Succession meets Emily in Paris, then maybe La Maison will scratch that itch for you. This is certainly not prestige television, but at least you get to see some picturesque sights. With that said, I’ll stop rambling about how the...

We're throwing it back to lockdown on the Pilot TV podcast this week as, thanks to James Dyer's ongoing tussles with the dreaded Covid, Kay, Boyd, and their infected co-pilot abandon the pod booth to record remotely. But even though the team aren't physically together, and even though there's been a relative dearth of new telly on the box this week, that hasn't stopped the good ship Pilot from lifting off for more televisual talk. Among the shows on the agenda this week are BBC1 real-time train-based thriller Nightsleeper, cannily titled sex-filled Channel 5 teacher drama The Teachers, and chic French fashion Apple TV offering La Maison.
Elsewhere, we find out what the pod squad have been watching over the last seven days, and this week's Game Of Thrones inspired listener question finds the team considering their favourite unlikely small-screen friendships. Plus, between the reviews and usual TV chat,...
