Every year, hundreds of manga are blessed with an animeadaptation, and a poll just showed which ones fans would like to see the most. Some exciting series were picked as one of the most anticipated to receive an anime adaptation, and this poll just showed that there is indeed demand and hype for them.
Each year, Anime Japan hosts a poll that asks manga fans which series they would like to see receive an anime, and while this doesn't necessarily lead to guarantees, some of the manga picked do end up receiving an anime later on. April 2025 marks the return of Wind Breaker. The street-fighting series carved out a niche among a crowded slate with exceptional combat choreography and an ensemble of compelling delinquent characters, delivering one of the best new anime in 2024. Produced by CloverWorks, Wind Breaker Season 1 masterfully adapted the first 41 chapters of Satoru Nii's manga, ending on a tantalizing cliffhanger promising continued manga-loyal anime adaptation.
While many expected another boy-crazy fighting anime, Wind Breaker defied expectations, delivering a deeply nuanced story told through the Heterochromatic eyes of its protagonist, Haruka Sakura, about belonging and purpose. With Season 2 officially confirmed and a teaser trailer already generating buzz, fans can begin piecing together what the second season holds based on manga content, production patterns, and the natural progression of the story's escalating conflicts.

Whether showcasing historically accurate sumo or exaggerated hulking Mma monsters, the best martial arts anime connect combat styles steeped in tradition with ground-breaking visuals. Series like Tomorrow's Joe's emotional boxing bouts and Dragon Ball's surprisingly grounded kung-fu inspiration laid the groundwork for modern hits like Baki and Wind Breaker, but there's no shortage of fighting brilliance in between.
The common thread among the best martial arts anime is a focus that goes beyond the fight, immersing viewers in the minds and motivations of the fighters. Of course, they are the beneficiaries of stellar animation, too—even the oldies innovating in their way. With their excellent execution and stories simmering below the surface-level conflicts, martial arts encounters become more than physical confrontation.

In modern days, anime has reached the heights of mainstream popularity as one of the cornerstones of global pop culture. From Demon Slayer to Solo Leveling, anime has been continuously producing some of the most narratively gripping and technically impressive exemplars of animation in media, the industry’s modern landscape being nothing short of awe-inspiring.
However, to find some of the medium’s most outstanding works, one has to turn their attention to the past – namely, the 1980s. The '80s have long been considered to be anime’s golden age. While the world of anime features plenty of outstanding protagonists with sharp writing and personal depth, other anime protagonists don't go the distance. Some of the worst anime protagonists either have poor writing and ended up unlikable, or they were simply written to be generic self-inserts who have nothing interesting to say. At best, these iffy anime protagonists just go through the motions, and at worst, they say or do things to make the viewers actually dislike them or at least protest their actions.
Fortunately, some of these bad anime protagonists haven't finished their stories yet, so there is time for a course correction and make them more compelling in future seasons, should the anime studios see fit. In other cases, the story is done, and it's too late to actually change the weak protagonist. Anime fans, however, can still daydream about how to fix those characters and make them worth following in various adventures.

Every year is a pretty good year for anime, as the Japanese animation industry regularly churns out interesting, unique shows season after season. 2024 was a particularly great one though, with shows that varied from fantastical epics (“Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End”), quirky comedies (“Delicious in Dungeon”), and warmly nostalgic action series (“Ranma 1/2”). It’s a year that was full of riches, and a tough one to live up to.
Looking ahead to 2025 though, there’s so much to be excited about in terms of what the medium has to offer. The Winter 2025 season already has promising new series like “Zenshu,” “Sakamoto Days,” and “Honey Lemon Soda.” And once you venture beyond the current season for other series that are scheduled to come out in the future, you’ll find some wildly promising titles. Plenty of old favorites are coming back for a new season: “Dandadan,” “Fire Force,” “Wind Breaker,” “Spy x Family,...

Tensions are high with Kagurabachi and the race between four major studios that want the rights to animate the masterpiece. Takeru Hokazono has truly made it when studios can’t even decide who should take this incredible dark fantasy anime. Kagurabachi, however, doesn’t need a major studio to animate it to have the best adaptation possible. It requires a studio that can match its vibe accurately and not ruin it with unnecessary changes that would make Kagurabachi lose its essence.

CloverWorks Took On Wind Breaker’s Anime to Avoid Being Stereotyped as an Animation Studio for Girls
CloverWorks is an animation studio, better known for its romantic comedies with gorgeous animation and amazing storylines. From Horimiya and the quirky Spy x Family, they never fail to deliver a great story and memorable characters. While the studio is very much used to catering towards a female audience, they went beyond their comfort zone and decided to take on Wind Breaker. This anime involves a lot more fight scenes and a predominantly male cast than CloverWorks is used to animating but they were up for the challenge.
