Via Gamebiz, Crunchyroll revealed on Feb. 21 that Solo Leveling was the platform's most-watched new anime of 2024, over popular debutants like Dandadan, Kaiju No. 8, Wind Breaker and more. Most anime fans would tell others that the best way to watch anime is with the original Japanese audio with subtitles. However, there have been some truly brilliant English dubs that are worth the watch. One outstanding example is the recent anime hit, Dandadan. However, there are so many anime, old and new, with highly underrated English dubs.

The best English dub anime have a certain flair that draws audiences in. It could have a particularly stellar performance by members of the cast, or the dialogue and localization change things around for even more impact. No matter the genre or when these anime released, their English dubs are some of the best, even if they aren’t widely appreciated.

Anime dubs have come a long way from their early days, evolving into an art form that can elevate the viewing experience to new heights.

While the world of anime features plenty of outstanding protagonists with sharp writing and personal depth, other anime protagonists don't go the distance. Some of the worst anime protagonists either have poor writing and ended up unlikable, or they were simply written to be generic self-inserts who have nothing interesting to say. At best, these iffy anime protagonists just go through the motions, and at worst, they say or do things to make the viewers actually dislike them or at least protest their actions.

Fortunately, some of these bad anime protagonists haven't finished their stories yet, so there is time for a course correction and make them more compelling in future seasons, should the anime studios see fit. In other cases, the story is done, and it's too late to actually change the weak protagonist. Anime fans, however, can still daydream about how to fix those characters and make them worth following in various adventures.

Every year is a pretty good year for anime, as the Japanese animation industry regularly churns out interesting, unique shows season after season. 2024 was a particularly great one though, with shows that varied from fantastical epics (“Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End”), quirky comedies (“Delicious in Dungeon”), and warmly nostalgic action series (“Ranma 1/2”). It’s a year that was full of riches, and a tough one to live up to.

Looking ahead to 2025 though, there’s so much to be excited about in terms of what the medium has to offer. The Winter 2025 season already has promising new series like “Zenshu,” “Sakamoto Days,” and “Honey Lemon Soda.” And once you venture beyond the current season for other series that are scheduled to come out in the future, you’ll find some wildly promising titles. Plenty of old favorites are coming back for a new season: “Dandadan,” “Fire Force,” “Wind Breaker,” “Spy x Family,...

It's almost time to start burning through those Wind Breaker volumes a little faster. Kodansha USA announced plans to accelerate print publication of Satoru Nii's manga in English, with a monthly schedule kicking off with the release of volume 10 this July.  Ahead of that, volume 9 touches down on February 4. Following July's launch of volume 10, one Wind Breaker volume will launch every month. While the anime industry has never been bigger, cracks in production are routinely highlighted, with Spy x Family producer Yuichi Fukushima recently stating that making longer anime series is becoming more challenging.

Via Business Insider, the recent Anime Connect event hosted Story Inc. producer Wakana Okamura, CloverWorks executive officer and producer Yuichi Fukushima and Wit Studio co-founder and producer Tetsuya Nakatake, where they spoke about trends in the industry. Notably, Fukushima shared that producing a two-cour anime series (around 24 episodes) is becoming harder due to limitations in planning anime over the long term.

A popular magazine in Japan recently announced the results of the bi-annual "National Treasure Level-Handsome Men" survey. Takeo Otsuka, who voices Aquamarine from Oshi no Ko and Jinshi from The Apothecary Diaries, has officially earned the title of Japan's most handsome voice actor for the latter half of 2024.

Per Oricon, the aforementioned magazine is ViVi, a monthly fashion magazine with a target demographic of women aged 17-27. Sitting at the top of ViVi's Top 10 "most handsome men" rankings is Otsuka, who narrowly defeated Nobuhiko Okomoto, best known for his role as Katsuki Bakugo from My Hero Academia. The third-place winner is Nobunaga Shimazaki, the star of CloverWorks' popular martial arts-focused drama, Wind Breaker. Kodansha has announced that its manga platform K Manga has expanded to four new countries, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore on Oct 22, 2024, on both iOS and Android platforms.

To celebrate the app’s launch in these regions, Kodansha is offering a limited-time promotion, discounting five popular titles by 50%. The titles are Attack on Titan, Fairy Tail, Wistoria: Wand And Sword, Wind Breaker, and Rent-a-Girlfriend.

The campaign will run from 12:00 a.m. on Oct 22, 2024, through 11:59 p.m. on Nov 4, 2024 (Jst).

CloverWorks is an animation studio, better known for its romantic comedies with gorgeous animation and amazing storylines.
