Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

1 review
8/10

Underrated, did not get fair treatment

I have played nearly every Ninja Turtle video game through the years. There have been some fun experiences going back to the arcade days. This version, that I had low expectations for, emerged as my favorite. There are a lot of things the creators got right here. But the number one thing they did right - making the combat fun. The fighting style is really engaging, with a huge list of combos, team moves, counters and more. If you have a friend it is even more fun linking attacks together. The action feels similar to Batman Arkham Knight, just not quite as polished.

I found the short story and survival modes really enjoyable with challenging but rewarding boss battles. You get to face Karai, Stockman and the Shredder twice. There is a large pool of different enemies, from mousers, to foot soldiers, robots, street thugs, elite ninja, aliens, krang and more. The character designs are also cool to look at.

What made all of this more impressive was learning how low budget this project was, only retailed at $14.99 for digital download. It is a shame they discontinued this game. Its true, the game has some obvious weaknesses and glaring bugs, but not to the point where it ruined the game in my opinion. Had they given this project more time and more investment, it could have been something extraordinary.

I really feel they had the base for something special to build off! Any future TMNT projects should use this as a template to build on. Give this a change if you haven't already! Turtles forever!!
