It's Okay!

10/10

More than just Okay! 10 out of 10!

I've seen this movie at the 2024 Berlinale movie festival. The performance of the cast is outstanding. Not just as actors, but also as traditional Korean dancers. The script is brilliant. I would say in the tradition of "Anne of Green Gables" or "Pollyanna" I cried. I laughed. And so did the rest of the audience.

If you've never been to a Generation section screening at the Berlinale- the movie is shown in the original version, in this case Korean, with subtitles and a German voice-over. This particular screening took place in an auditorium, not even a real movie theatre. Many kids were in the audience, whole classes attending. It was fascinating how spellbound the kids were watching under these circumstances. Long lines formed at the microphones during the Q&A section after the screening.

It was the best movie I had seen during this year's Berlinale, even though is was "just" a Generation section movie, winning the Crystal Bear trophy, by the way. I would award it few Oscars, including best female lead for Re Lee.

I should also mention the fantastic Korean dance scenes and the wonderful costumes. You will be sorry if you miss this movie, even if it is subtitled, voiced-over and shown at an auditorium with uncomfortable seats!
