As we get closer to Christmas and the New Year, more and more networks opt for specials and reruns. There’s a fair few on TV tonight, Sunday, Dec. 15.
There are still episodes of top shows to air. There’s also the fun of Sunday Night Football on NBC. So, if you’re worried about finding something to watch, don’t be. We have everything that’s airing across the Big 5 broadcast networks tonight.
The Simpsons, The Sound of Music, and more
If you’re looking for a movie to watch with the whole family, The Sound of Music will air throughout the night on ABC. This is a long one, with the movie starting at the slightly earlier time than normal of 7 p.m. Et/Pt. It will continue throughout the night, which is something to keep in mind for those with smaller children.
How about the adult animation?...

The Chosen Season 4 episodes 1-3 earned $6 million at the box office, showing a large following and dedication from fans. The success of The Chosen demonstrates the continued trend of faith-based stories succeeding in theaters. The box office success of The Chosen may inspire more studios to consider making faith-based content and releasing it in theaters.
Television shows don't typically get theatrical releases, but Angel Studios took a gamble with The Chosen season 4, and it has undoubtedly paid off. Fathom Events is debuting the fourth season of the Christian historical drama series in theaters in February 2024 before it moves to streaming. However, this isn't the first time the show has been released in theaters — a Christmas special, Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers, the penultimate and finale episode of season 3, and another holiday film, Christmas with The Chosen: Holy Night, have received the theatrical release treatment.

The weekend before Christmas only saw one new nationwide studio release, and while it may have underperformed compared to expectations, it’s likely to add to the holiday business as theaters fill up in the week following Christmas Day. Read on for the weekend box office report.
Ahead of the holiday business boom, Warner Bros. opened the family musical comedy “Wonka,” starring Timothée Chalamet as Roald Dahl‘s Willy Wonka, into 4,203 theaters on Friday after it racked up a respectable 83% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. Directed by Paul King (“Paddington”), the movie co-starred Olivia Colman, Hugh Grant, Kagan Michael-Key, Rowan Atkinson, relative newcomer Calah Lane and more.
“Wonka” made $3.5 million in Thursday previews and $14.4 million on Friday (including those previews) with an estimated $39 million for the weekend. That may be below some expectations but is par for the course over the past few weeks. “Wonka” received an “A-” CinemaScore, the...

There’s lots of reasons for the strong $39 million domestic debut for “Wonka” (Warner Bros.), but what studios will notice most is this: For the first time in his already impressive career, 27-year-old Timothée Chalamet has opened a $100 million+ budget movie, and worldwide.
The awards season also brought two new platform releases, with “American Fiction” (Amazon MGM) “The Zone of Interest” (A24) off to a strong start although neither came close to last week’s initial results for “Poor Things” (Searchlight). Yorgos Lanthimos’ film broadened to 82 theaters, maintaining an excellent $15,000-plus PTA.
The musical prequel to Roald Dahl’s classic fantasy opened a week earlier than normal for a family-oriented Christmas film; Warners will also open “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” next Friday and “The Color Purple” Christmas Day.
The earlier release gave “Wonka” access to premium screens (“Aquaman” will get most of them next week), but if reaction was...

This weekend saw the return of the iconic character Willy Wonka to the big screen with the prequel Wonka featuring a Golden Globe nominated performance by Timothy Chalamet. While the film didn’t quite get to the heights we thought it could reach in our Thursday predictions, it still was able to carve out a solid $39 million for a first place finish. This is a movie that will have tremendous play throughout the holidays and into the new year. Not only are reviews leaning positive (with a 7/10 from our own Chris Bumbray), but the film also secured an A- cinemascore alongside a 91% audience score. In the frenzy of holiday shopping, many people are likely waiting for the madness to die down before heading to theaters to see the film which means this one should see a solid hold in the weeks to come.
