Home Sweet Home: Rebirth is a textbook example of style over substance. Even with the game-accurate monsters and demons faithfully recreated, they are used merely as visual callbacks to the source material. They kill a few people with brutal violence, but ultimately, their sole purpose seems to be to shout, "Hey, we're from a video game!" rather than serving any real narrative or suspenseful purpose.
Unfortunately, that's where the strengths end.
There's virtually no story to latch onto. We're thrown directly into the chaos without any meaningful setup, background, or buildup. Monsters and possessed people are hurled at the audience purely to generate cheap thrills, but with no emotional investment or structure, it all feels meaningless. It plays more like a cutscene montage than a cohesive film. Much like House of the Dead adaptations, it leans heavily on visual references to the game but forgets to tell an actual story.
The acting is serviceable for a lower-budget foreign production. The cast clearly tries, and while they're not A-list or international stars, they deliver decent performances given what little the script provides. Unfortunately, no amount of effort from the cast can save the hollow structure they're stuck inside.
While the cinematography and special effects are genuinely impressive, they're wasted without a strong story to support them. A more faithful, atmospheric adaptation of the original video game's Thai folklore and chilling atmosphere would have made for a much better film. Instead, Home Sweet Home: Rebirth feels like an empty, beautifully wrapped package with nothing meaningful inside.

I was not familiar with this 2025 movie titled "Home Sweet Home: Rebirth" prior to sitting down to watch it. And not knowing anything about the movie, I harbored zero expectations. But I will say that I found the movie's cover/poster interesting enough to actually draw my attention.
Initially I had thought that this movie was a sequel or something, given the 'rebirth' part of the title, but that was apparently not the case. Turns out that it was apparently based on a game.
The storyline in the movie was simplistic, almost to the point of being non-existing. Sure, it made for a fair enough viewing experience, but just don't expect to be using your brain during the 93 minutes that the movie ran for.
I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, a thing that I actually enjoy whenever I sit down to watch a movie. And the acting performances in the movie were fair, despite the fact that the actors and actresses had surprisingly little material to work with.
Visually then the movie was good. I definitely liked the special effects in the movie, though while looking good they hardly did much of anything to add to the lacking storyline.
"Home Sweet Home: Rebirth" is the type of movie that you watch once, and forget about within the coming 24 hours. Yeah, there just wasn't sufficient contents to the script or storyline to make this a memorable movie. And it most definitely is not a movie that you will sit down and watch a second time.
Watchable, sure, but a very forgettable movie at best.
My rating of directors Steffen Hacker and Alexander Kiesl's 2025 movie lands on a generous five out of ten stars.

Story was weak, characters were forgettable and acting was terrible. I am so glad I won't have any memory of this movie to remind me of how bad it was. The CGI wasn't too bad but the demons looked robotic and not scary at all. This movie felt rushed and was probably produced to cash in some quick bucks. There were quite a few moments where my wandered off as it doesn't hold your attention long enough to keep you interested. It is watchable to some degree but I say this with caution. The fact that I looked forward to this movie so much just for it to let me down like this, is very disheartening.
After reading what the movie was about, I was excited to watch it. I'm prone to Morrone and his acting now so I paid him little attention, but I just want to ask. Are the female lead and male lead nepo babies? Because the acting was so atrocious that I had to immediately end the movie 30 mins in. Why spoil such a good movie plot on such terrible acting? My lord. Even the child couldn't act and I've seen younger kids act. I almost had to poke my eyes out. I don't usually stray from big movie productions cause of this same reason and it came to bite me in the back once again. I want back my 30 mins.😩

I watch a lot of movies but don't choose to write many reviews and prefer to leave that to more opinionated people. But this "movie" just begged in every way to be called out. After 90 grueling minutes I came to the conclusion that this movie was written and directed by people who had never actually met other human beings. Not a single line of dialog, interaction, decision or behavior seemed like anything normal people do. Every moment of character interaction felt so fake and lacked any connection to reality making the viewer's experience more like extended torture. There was not 1 likeable character and even the child was nerve gratingly annoying. There was no real plot and most staged scenes felt like they were done on no budget and used CGI to augment the missing elements but failed at every attempt. The fight/combat scenes were laughable jokes with nobody apparently able to fake actual impact. But I did get a big laugh at how the main "hero" (reminding me of Hudson of Hudson & Rex) completely abandons his family and doesn't even seem to care to think of them while the world is supposedly falling apart and he's doing his action hero schtick... badly. This movie feels like it was an overreach by everyone involved and they tried to fill in all the gaps in post with really bad fx work. But for me it didn't work in any way and was more anger inducing than entertaining.
I wonder... How much were the actors paid for this movie? A large portion of it must've gone to the special fx; I'd say because the acting was bad, the script so bland, scene editing so wrong and the characters are annoying to watch!
I looked the title up because of the impressive trailer seen on YouTube, and I should've just left it at that! I wanted to see how damaged Bangkok would be during the tragedy, but the lead characters and even their extras were so laidback throughout their acting. Come to think of it, there was no logic for this story to be produced at all.
I should've just stick to Thai horror movies which gives more scare than this!

What happens when you gather an international cast of bad actors, hand them a poor script, throw in some cheesy special effects and direct it like you just don't care, well you get this film. There's the annoying child, the plot that makes me believe this is a sequel because I barely understood what was going on, lots of fire and smoke, violence and all of it was so boring I kept nodding off. There is no character to care about. They're all one dimensional almost cartoonish characters and it's as if someone thought just throwing in lots of CGI was enough to call it a finished movie. This deserves every bad review it gets.

I've only seen 18 minutes of it and I already know this will be a waste of my time... The acting is horrible.... I'm gonna have to spend hours trying to flip my toes back out.... Extremely cringe! Everything from the fake bald munk, the over-acting kid to the way it's built up... So many stupid episodes where you just know you wouldn't do that in real life.... Ever....
The "villain" is also cringe AF and has a horrible accent that seems put on for the show.... I haven't seen any "monsters" yet but I won't be surprised if the CGI is just horrendous as well.... Why can't they just make monster movies as they did with "Alien" anymore?!?

Reading these reviews made me not really wanna watch, considering I had been waiting ages for the release, but I decided to make my own judgement and it's really not as bad as people put out. Decide for yourself. Yes, the acting was slightly questionable but it's not the worst, and overall it was quite enjoyable. Michele played a good villain, The child was sweet and the mother wasn't so bad. Jake, good, sometimes he overacted but I don't believe it was really as bad as people are making it out to be. They had high expectations due to the trailer but as I said, make your own judgement, it's REALLY not that bad.
Story is purely bland. Its plot is as old as 80s-90s. Nothing's impressive in this movie. Watch it if you just want to kill your time. I don't recommend for any ages. Not just entertaining any kind of persons except the movie maker itself.
This movie shows the intension of the maker as to make a CG portfolio. The development of the characters are zero. There is no background story for each scenes that will make audiences understand and experience the meanings and vibes.
It's old-fashioned plot that set up a hero who sacrifices him/her-self for showing heroism.
My question is what's the story that's linked to its name? It's just a trendy words that the movie maker uses for marketing.

I don't even know if this can be called a movie. What is this garbage? From the acting to the plot, the characters, the writing, I wouldn't even dare to call this a kids' movie. Kids' movies are way more fun to watch and at least have decent acting and a clear point to the story. But this? This is on another level of awfulness.
The only somewhat decent character was the wife. She acted weird at times, too, but at least she felt like the only human in this mess. Even that little girl was annoying. I have seen a lot of young girls or boys who are way more talented. The rest of the characters felt like aliens-anything but human. The way they responded, moved, even talked... it was all just off. Honestly, I felt embarrassed for these actors.
With better acting, this could've been a great experience, especially since the movie has some similarities to "The Green Lantern." But nope, this just felt like a complete waste of 90 minutes.
That's my honest POV after watching this... I don't even know what to call it, just straight-up garbage, tbh.

After reading some of the reviews, I had to see for myself how bad this movie is ... but you know, I kind of liked it. My expectations were super low from the reviews, so that may have helped, but I think the movie is pretty good. It's a low budget sci-fi movie with decent acting and some impressive CGI monsters ... what's to complain about? Just watch the movie with the goal of being entertained watching characters being chased by monsters around Bangkok for 90 minutes, and you won't be disappointed. The actors were good and definitely committed to their roles ... just the dialogue didn't do them any favors. That's a problem with movies from games, if you never played the game, can just get lost figuring out what they're talking about. Cut out the game reference talk and replace it with more demon girl or that giant monster scenes, and I would have liked this movie even more.
The story, effects were very good. Most of the acting was good. However the biggest let down was the lead. This movie would have been much better served with a better casted lead character.
He started off ok. However as the movie progressed his acting kept falling short more and more. He seemed forced, fake, trying too hard.
I do not know ow if I have seen him else where and this doesn't mean he can't or hasn't done better. But this was definitely a failure. The supporting acting, including the little girl was better.
If the actor sees this please take it as a positive criticism on how to improve. It is not meant to demean you.

I think that, just like with "The Room", the story behind the movie might be far more interesting than what you get to see in "Home Sweet Home", wondering how this could come into existence and why it is the way it is.
The answer might be simple - government grants, from Thailand - and the production "company" that took them. So what happens when you have zero qualifications, no intention of really making a movie and a pile of money that you mostly want to spend on yourself?
Home sweet home: Rebirth, that's what happens. A movie with the most random title that is based on a sketchy VR game that itself is unfished and has basically no plot.
The amazing part is that the extras in this are great. Every scene where it's only the extras, running and screaming and panicking, is really good. Well, TV-disaster-movie good, which is infinitely better than the rest. There's a concept behind every scene, the camera knows what's it doing, it's even edited well.
And then you have everything else, which is just bizarre. A monk living in an oversaturated Playstation 3- era monestary. A weird criminal slash demon who manages to speak in 3 different accents in every scene long before he is posessed and who brings an impressive confidence into one of the worst perfomances I have ever seen. William Moseley who seems weirdly unanware that he is in the movie. I think they just pushed him in front of the camera and let him improvise, because his lines, just like all the dialogue, have to be improvised, nobody could have written that down without having a stroke.
The explosions that don't destroy anything! The fires that burn nothing! The destruction that comes and goes from scene to scene, I honestly think at some point they just pressed "shuffle" on their editing software. The open source royalty free soundtrack - at least it should be!
You have to watch this, is what I'm saying. It will tear you apart. And lower your standards, which is always great, especailly in 2025, as it seems.

Home Sweet Home drags along with a painfully slow pace, offering little more than clichés and predictable dialogue. The characters lack depth, making it hard to care about their fates, and the plot unfolds with minimal tension or surprise. Scenes linger too long without purpose, and even moments meant to be suspenseful feel flat and uninspired. The movie relies heavily on silence and dark lighting to build atmosphere, but it ends up feeling more dull than eerie. With nothing new to say and no standout performances, Home Sweet Home becomes a tedious watch, leaving viewers counting the minutes until the credits roll.
I never thought anything would top Blair Witch Project as the worst horror ever, but Home Sweet Home has knocked it out of the park. This has to be the worst horror movie I have ever tried to watch, and I say tried because I gave up after 30 minutes.
It is frustrating beyond measure. The first showdown between the cop and a shooter in a mall told me all I needed to know about where this movie was headed with its intentions. That was confirmed by the cop's numerous run-ins with a woman/demon who constantly stalks him, trying to kill him, and yet every time he has her at his mercy, he runs away from her without finishing her off... It's WTF inexplicable, and I'm struggling to think of another film so bad in this respect. The wife is almost as stupid, too.
Besides having a poor cast, shocking acting, and terrible writing, this movie is amateurish and lazy. It's like watching fan fiction.

How bad you ask?
Ancient artifact that fires magic bullets bad.
Bad acting, bad script, bad direction, with a dash of oriental fetishization straight from the 80s. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this to anyone who values their time.
I can't help wondering how in the world this got green lit. Easily the worst movie I've seen in years. Every line of dialogue sounds like it was written by a high-schooler whose only exposure to the world is Marvel movies. I couldn't have made the protagonist more simultaneously unlikable and bland if I tried. The premise is also a perplexing blend of surface-level Christian concepts shoehorned into a veneer of ambiguous oriental set dressing with zero research.

Sit down and enjoy a cup of tea while chaos erupts outside-a war zone, or worse, a bus surrounded by zombies. Yet somehow, the characters speak gently and sit calmly as if nothing's happening. The acting falls far short; it feels more like a stage play than a movie, with dialogue delivered as if they're reading from a script.
The only two stars I'd give are for the cinematography and the music. The sound and special effects are decent, and I hope the crew got paid fairly for their work. Unfortunately, many shots felt like filler-scenes that served no purpose except to pad out the runtime.
One example: a character chooses to climb over a car instead of just walking around it, even though the road is wide open. It feels forced and unrealistic. The director could definitely use a few more lessons on how to guide actors into more natural performance.

The movie is ok, not great, but definitely not terrible. The dialogue could use some improvement (maybe they were referencing the game, but I never played it, so I have no idea), and there was too much going on for a 90 minute movie, but there are some cool action scenes and things moves quickly for most of the movie (some lulls). The actors were believable enough, the little girl was cute, and the bad guy definitely pulled off being creepy crazy with that doll. Overall, an ok sci-fi horror action movie that kept me mostly entertained for 90 minutes. Improve the dialogue, keep the storyline simpler, and I think it could have been even more enjoyable, but it's fine as is.
I just watched Home Sweet Home: Rebirth and wow-I'm still thinking about it! As a big fan of Michele Morrone, I was really excited to see him play the villain, and he absolutely nailed it. He brought this dark, intense energy to Mek that gave me chills (in the best way).
The story pulls you right in-a mix of supernatural horror, action, and emotional moments. The visuals were insane, especially the scenes in the alternate world. And I loved the Thai setting-it added a unique, haunting vibe.
Urassaya Sperbund was amazing too. She really made you feel for her character. Honestly, the whole cast was strong, but Michele stole every scene he was in.
If you're into dark thrillers with a supernatural twist-and love seeing Michele Morrone in a totally different role-you have to watch this.

I'm being a tad more generous than many here because I really liked the basic story and the beginning was quite scary.
I also enjoyed just the huge scope of the world they were creating, and loved the monsters and the effects in general.
But, for me about 2/3 the way through I felt that the writers/director kind of lost the story somewhat, becoming a little trite at times, especially the scenes with the little girl which dragged the whole story basically to a halt each time for the little 'Cutesy' dialog.
I think that with such a powerful and truly scary beginning and the strong momentum that they had built up throughout the first half to 2/3 or so, for this kind of story I really feel that they needed to amp up the tension even more so, and keep tightening the suspense as they went. But, I think they failed to do that.
So, yeah, pretty dang entertaining and truly intense in the first half with great effects and a marvelous scope created, but ultimately losing steam in the last act.
Still, I think enjoyable and worthy of a tad higher rating than many are giving it.
So, if you keep these things in mind and just go along for the ride, you might find primarily the first half fairly engaging and entertaining.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Particular Way of Rating:
5 - Flawed, but with some entertainment value.
6. A decently passable story maybe worth a watch.
7. A solid film, well made, effective, and entertaining.
And, obviously, you can probably figure out what above and below these would mean... : )
Everything about this movie is terrible, from the acting to the graphics. The plot is as banal as it gets: the main character is the chosen messiah, saves the world, the end. The dumbest thing about this movie is the teenage girl who was killed at the very beginning of the movie, but somewhere in the middle of the movie, as if nothing had happened, she appears as a new character. The director thought that no one would notice, like, it will do.
Used more CGI, but the story is not satisfied, behavior of characters is annoying.
What happened to the creatures after closing the gate?
Who opened that gate again.
Not a clear story, it's just trying to pleasing viewers with action and effects.
Why monk's father can't use Jake's body, if Mek carries it. Most actions are not logically agreed.
It's more fun watching paint dry than this movie. I have no idea what I just watched. The acting is some of the worst you have ever seen and the acting is just so bad. When I was trying to Show This Movie My Old Grandpa who is sitting in Wheelchair he was Suddenly Standing up and walkingto the TV and Turn, It of.
Thank to the Movie my my Old Grandpa is now finally able The Walk again.
There is absolutely no story at all and it's one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I just want to turn it off and forget about that. I have watched it. The effects are pretty good though so I give one point to the CGI.
