That noise you hear is Grey’s Anatomy dusting off Ellen Pompeo‘s director’s chair.

TVLine has learned exclusively that Pompeo is poised to step behind the camera later this season to direct another episode of the long-running ABC drama. This will mark the actress’ second Grey’s directing stint; she helmed last season’s 18th episode, “Be Still, My Soul,” which revolved around the death of Maggie’s (Kelly McCreary) mother.

Pompeo’s latest directing effort may prove to be equally as heavy.

Call Me by Your Name, Get Out and Lady Bird all had great showings at the 2018 Independent Spirit Award nominations!

The nominees were announced on Tuesday morning, with the Armie Hammer-ledCall Me by Your Name leading the pack with six nominations, followed closely by Jordan Peele's critically acclaimed, genre-bending thriller Get Out with five, and Lady Bird, with four.

All three films are competing for Best Picture, along with The Florida Project and The Rider. The Independent Spirit Awards are sometimes seen as a tea leaf for how the Academy Awards will sway -- the Best Picture winner of this show has gone on to also earn the distinction at the Oscars for five out of the last six years.

Peele earned a nod in the Best Director category, and the film's lead, Daniel Kaluuya is up for Best Male Lead, along with James Franco, who is nominated for The Disaster Artist. In the Best Female...

The nominations for the 33rd Independent Spirit Awards are in, and “Get Out,” “Call Me by Your Name,” “Lady Bird,” “Good Time,” and more have dominated this year’s slate.

Over the last several years, the Indie Spirits have become both a champion of underdog indies (see Molly Shannon winning Best Supporting Female last year for “Other People”) and a key indicator in which films and performances could end up with the Oscar (Casey Affleck and “Moonlight” for Best Picture last year). John Mulaney and Nick Kroll will return to host the 33rd Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday, March 3.

The CW’s Supergirl has cast Defiance alum Jesse Rath in the recurring role of Brainiac 5, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Half computer, half organic life and boasting a 12-level intellect, Brainiac 5 is a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes who travels to National City from the 31st Century to help Supergirl and the Deo battle Reign, the villain that L-Corp CEO Samantha Arias (played by Odette Annable) is on track to becoming.

Labor Day weekend is the calm before the specialized storm. “Wind River” (Weinstein) went wide quickly, and managed the #3 spot it an weak period for most theaters. The company also released its long-blooming “Tulip Fever,” which flopped as expected with just over $1 million. Meanwhile, Lionsgate/Pantelion’s “Do It Like An Hombre,” a low-budget Mexican comedy, did twice as well in half the theaters.

When it comes to the raging debate between the merits (and predominance) of theatrical releasing versus streaming platforms, lauded Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho has come out with perhaps the most controversial take yet: hey, how about both of them?

Ahead of the Cannes premiere of Bong’s next — the Netflix-made “Okja” — the auteur was on hand (alongside Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos) for a presentation in Seoul earlier today, where the pair inevitably sounded off on the latest kerfuffle between theaters and streaming. Earlier this month, the festival denied that they would be dropping either of the Netflix offerings on their slate — “Okja” and Noah Baumbach’s “The Meyerowitz Stories” — despite a controversial reception from movie-goers adamant that Cannes films receive theatrical distribution in the fest’s home country.

Ben Kingsley is set to star in “Death of an Author,” the first adaptation of the upcoming planned “Intrigo” trilogy of novels by international best-selling Swedish author Hakan Nesser. Benno Fürmann (“North Face”) and Tuva Novotny (“Jalla, Jalla”) will co-star alongside Kingsley in the first of three films that will be helmed by “The Girl Who Played with Fire” director Daniel Alfredson.

The titles of the three films will be “Death of an Author,” “Samaria” and “Dear Agnes.” They will be set in an undefined country somewhere in northern Europe, where many of Nesser’s stories have been set. The three films will share the same psychology and narrative structure, with plots that include some sort of escape with dark hidden secrets destined to surface, as well as guilt, revenge and atonement.

Here’s how studios say they see it: Sure, we really want to hire women directors. But there’s almost no studio movie that isn’t big budget, and we can’t find women who have the experience necessary to handle the really big movies. (Never mind Colin Trevorrow. Or Marc Webb. While the first teaser trailer for “Krisha” filmmaker Trey Edward Shults’ highly anticipated upcoming horror feature, “It Comes at Night,” played up atmosphere over plot (like any good teaser), the film’s newest full-length trailer piles on the plot details, but that doesn’t keep it from being any less intriguing.

The film stars Joel Edgerton as patriarch Paul, who has sequestered his family (including his wife, played by Carmen Ejogo, and their teen son, played by rising star Kelvin Harrison Jr.) in a secluded country house after something terrible has decimated modern civilization. When another young family (including Christopher Abbott and Riley Keough) arrives on their property, Paul makes the choice to keep them around, because what could possibly go wrong with adding more terrified people into an already on-edge situation?

If you’ve seen “Guardians of the Galaxy,” you already know a lot about “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” — a lively comedic space opera filled with banter between humans and imaginative aliens, astonishing visual effects, and the most idiosyncratic set of characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The thinkpiece-industrial complex is running at full speed this spring to update the cinephile community’s consensus of major stars. The 89th Annual Academy Awards kicked off Sunday at Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center, and as expected, the A-Listers came dressed to impress.

La La Land star Emma Stone wowed in a classy, custom-created Givenchy gown, while Hidden Figures star Taraji P. Henson opted for a blue velvet Alberta Ferretti dress, which featured a thigh-high slit. The men looked just as handsome, with Stone's co-star, Ryan Gosling, sporting a Gucci suit, and Fifty Shades Darker star Jamie Dornan in a cream-colored tuxedo jacket.

Tonight is Hollywood's big night, with the 89th Oscars being broadcast live on ABC tonight, starting at 8 Pm Et/5 Pm Pt. We'll be watching the awards being handed out live and updating this full list of winners as the telecast goes on. Jimmy Kimmel hosts this year's Oscar telecast, with La La Land currently the front runner to take home many of the major awards.

Academy members from each of the 17 branches vote to determine the nominees in their respective categories - actors nominate actors, film editors nominate film editors, etc. In the Animated Feature Film and Foreign Language Film categories, nominees are selected by a vote of multi-branch screening committees. All voting members are eligible to select the Best Picture nominees. Active members of the Academy are eligible to vote for the winners in all 24 categories beginning Monday, February 13 through Tuesday, February 21.

La La Land, Emma Stone, Hacksaw Ridge and Suicide Squad are all Oscar winners. Here's the full list...

For the 89th time, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - that'd be AMPAS, to its mates - has handed out its world-famous collection of gongs.

The full list of winners from this year's awards? Right here. Jason Statham, you'll notice, was callously snubbed again. What's more, his shark-fighting movie, Meg, won't be out in time for the 90th Oscars either. Sigh. Those that did win? Well, Suicide Squad is now an Oscar-winning movie, picking up as many gongs as Arrival. Hacksaw Ridge also snagged a couple of gongs, whilst Moonlight triumphed. And - after a confusing moment when Warren Beatty read out the wrong winner (not his fault, we might add) - it ultimately upset La La Land and took Best Picture too.

Wait, a cure for what? For wellness? Who would want a cure for wellness?

That title — A Cure for Wellness — should have been my first sign that things would be deeply wrong with this movie. The second might have been that the previous collaboration between director Gore Verbinski and screenwriter Justin Haythe was their utterly wrongheaded attempt to reboot The Lone Ranger.

It’s not even ironic, thatwellness. It’s not like New York finance shark Lockhart (Dane DeHaan: Life, The Amazing Spider-Man 2...

The battle lines are drawn: It's La La Land, a musical fantasy about white lovers in Hollywood, versus Moonlight, a searing drama about black youth surviving on the streets of Miami. That contest is symptomatic of how serious Oscar is – or isn't – about diversity. After two years in which not a single black actor showed up among the acting nominees, this year's crop includes seven actors of color: Mahershala Ali, Viola Davis, Naomie Harris, Ruth Negga, Dev Patel, Octavia Spencer and Denzel Washington.

The story of Mildred and Richard Loving could easily have become a sledgehammer epic about social injustice. Writer-director Jeff Nichols instead sticks to the facts and recounts their ordeal with a quiet subjectivity that neither exaggerates nor sanctifies. The result is a marvelously affecting demonstration of how a civilized, progressive America rights a wrong. Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton are terrific as just plain folks oppressed by an obsolete law.

Growing up in the 1950s, interracial marriage was a strange subject, and major entertainments handled it with kid gloves.

The nominations have been set for the 89th Academy Awards airing on February 26th! Who will crush it? Who will slink away awaiting for their chance next time? How many even care? I know that in a world with too much useless digital information and a political climate that seems ready to implode or explode (depending on your political leanings), perhaps we all need the escapism.

And what about the host? Jimmy Kimmel is way too vanilla. Given my political mood, please give me the caustic wit of Ricky Gervais, please!!! Only he can breathe some real life into to this turgid affair. The grandstanding, the political rants, well-meaning for real, but this is a night for pure escapism for the audience, n'cest pas? I mean, does anyone really care unless they really are talking odds?

Last night's Super Bowl showdown condensed a TV season's worth of drama into one unscripted evening, but let's be honest: You're really watching grown men bash each other silly as an excuse to catch those brand-new TV spots for upcoming marquee-name movies, right? Right? (Just go with us here.) A cavalcade of new trailers for this year's biggest blockbusters graced the air time in between sacks and fumbles last night, with eager fans getting an eyeful of fresh footage from the latest Fast and Furious and Transformers installments to the upcoming big-screen,...

The nominations for the 89th Academy Awards are in and La La Land leads the pack with 14 nominations! I knew La La Land was going to explode at this event, and it's probably going to end up taking home many of the awards is was nominated for. The 14 nominations ties the record with 1997's Titanic and 1950's All About Eve.

Arrival ended up with eight nominations as did Moonlight, while Hacksaw Ridge, Lion, and Manchester by the Sea all got six. Deadpool ended up with zero nominations. I was hoping to see it somewhere on the list, but it looks like all that hype didn't work.

Every film and actor who was nominated for their work deserves to be on this list, so congratulations to them all! There are so many great films and actors to root for, but there can be only one winner in each category.

The glitz, the glamour, the gift baskets that do as much to sway voters as a slaved-over work of art — it’s the 89th Academy Awards! AMPAS unveiled their take on the year that was 2016, which adds up, expectedly, to many of the names and endeavors we’ve seen fêted over the last few months. (We’ve done our part, too, and think you’ll be much better-served following us than them.)

The 89th Academy Awards nominees were revealed on Tuesday morning, and as expected, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone's musical movie, La La Land, earned the most nominations.

La La Land earned 14 nominations, making the film tied with Titanic (1997) and All About Eve (1950) for the most Oscar nods in history.

Previous Oscar-winning and nominated actors -- including Jennifer Hudson, Brie Larson, Emmanuel Lubezki, Jason Reitman and Ken Watanabe -- read off the nominees in the pre-taped Oscars announcement.

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced today the motion picture nominations for the 28th Annual Producers Guild Awards. The categories are The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures and The Award for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures.

All 2017 Producers Guild Award winners will be announced on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. This year, the Producers Guild will present special honors to Tom Rothman (Milestone Award), James L. Brooks (Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television), Irwin Winkler (David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures), the feature film Loving (Stanley Kramer Award), and Megan Ellison (Visionary Award).

The 7,500-strong union, comprised of producing teams in film, television, and new media, revealed its crop of honorees on Tuesday, firming up best picture frontrunner La La Land‘s bid for further awards season domination after the Damien Chazelle-directed musical became the most decorated film in Golden Globes history Sunday night.

Fox’s superhero adaptation has earned a theatrical nomination from the Producers Guild Of America, which traditionally serves as a strong form guide for Oscar best picture nominees.

Damien Chazelle's "La La Land" made history at the 74th Annual Golden Globes winning all 7 nominations including Best Picture Musical/Comedy! The film won Best Actor (Ryan Gosling), Actress (Emma Stone), Director, Screenplay, Score, and Song! Previously, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was the record-holder for winning 6/6 and both "Doctor Zhivago" and "A Star is Born" 5 for 5.

A big congrats to Chazelle and "La La Land!"

The biggest upset for me? Natalie Portman's "Jackie" performance was overshadowed by Isabelle Huppert in "Elle." I thought Portman, wigs and make-up included, embodied the role of our former First Lady!

In the TV category, "The Night Manager" was the big winner taking home three awards (mostly for performance for Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Laurie), followed by "The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" and "The Crown" each with two.

A forbidden affair that ruined the lives of a man and a young girl is explored by both parties once again in the first trailer for Una. Rooney Mara stars as the title character, with Ben Mendelsohn starring as Ray, the man she ran away with 15 years ago, before their affair came to a sudden end.
