Tarsem to make the jump to television with NBC’s ‘Emerald City’
Single director seasons has been a rising trend in television, with last season providing the two most notable examples in HBO’s True Detective and Cinemax’s The Knick, with David Fincher and David Lynch poised to do the same with Utopia and Twin Peaks respectively in subsequent seasons. To date, however, the trend has been limited to cable channels. NBC, however, is jumping into the ring as well, as reports have now emerged that the network channel has tapped director Tarsem Singh to direct all ten episodes of its upcoming series Emerald City.

Tarsem, whose latest feature Self/Less is currently in theatres, is known to most film fans for his work on the 2006 feature The Fall. He currently has five features under his belt, along with an assortment of music videos, including that of Rem’s Losing My Religion, but has yet to work in television.

Wizard Of Oz-Inspired Drama Emerald City Lands Full Series Order
After a two-year stint in development limbo and a cancellation eight months ago, NBC has retrieved its Wizard Of Oz-inspired TV series from the trash. The series, titled Emerald City after the sparkly green-tinged metropolis known as Oz, has undergone a resurrection by network brass who have decided it holds some value after all. Along with its ten-episode straight-to-series order, David Schulner (Do No Harm, The Playboy Club) is now attached to write and executive produce.

Universal Television, who is developing and producing the series, has struggled to lift the show off the ground for years in its various permutations. Matthew Arnold (Siberia) concocted the idea and scripted the pilot which received additional punch-ups by Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). While that iteration failed to launch, the current television climate could be the reason by NBC’s change of heart.

Per Deadline, the show has been described as...

Broken Contract a near-paperless production
Producer Hayden Fortescue believes his action comedy Broken Contract is the first Wa-shot feature to have been shot almost entirely without paper.

Christopher Morris (Offspring, Crownies) plays Max, a down-on-his-luck club owner who hires a hit man for protection after a local gang threatens his livelihood and his family.

Esther Anderson (Siberia, Home and Away) plays the detective who gets involved after Max.s friends and enemies start disappearing.

Fortescue set out to save money by emailing contracts, Oh&S and medical reports and call sheets, and issuing digital invoices and receipts.

During the shoot in Perth in April/May, writer-director James Pentecost used an iPad that held everything he needed . script, schedules, notes and an app that allowed him to pre-plan the set-ups for every scene.

Dispensing with traditional storyboards, he and DoP Ross Metcalf used the app, Hollywood Shot Designer, to figure out when and where every light,...

Coming off a season in which the network catapulted to No. 1 in the 18-49 demo and saw double-digit improvement in many prominent timeslots, NBC has announced its 2014-15 line-up; and on the horror side it's looking surprisingly good.

Joyce Giraud has the hair of the gods and Carlton Gebbia seems like she might cut a B…everly Hills lady for giving her any side eye about naming one of her children Mystery.

Luckily, EW talked to the two newbs individually to see if those first impressions rang true. While they both got around to some of the same themes eventually, they’re, uh, highly different. Gebbia is laid back and reserved with personal information,...

'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Season 4 trailer: Brandi Glanville spars with Lisa Vanderpump, skinny dips in jacuzzi
Leave it to Brandi Glanville to bring the fireworks on Bravo's "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills."

In the trailer for the upcoming fourth season of the popular reality series, the feisty former Mrs. Eddie Cibrian not only goes au natural in a jacuzzi and shares a tender smooch with new cast member Carlton Gebbia, but it seems her once rock-solid friendship with Lisa Vanderpump is showing some fractures.

One key moment in the first sneak peek, titled "No Smoke Without Fire," finds Glanville and Vanderpump at what appears to be the tail end of a contentious discussion, with Glanville asserting, "I know you're the chess player of all time, but I just f***ing checkmated you, b****." Checkmate, indeed.

Along with Glanville and Vanderpump, Yolanda H. Foster, Kyle Ricahrds and Kim Richards are returning for Season 4. (Adios, Adrienne Maloof and Taylor Armstrong!) Joining the series are the aforementioned Gebbia...

'Siberia' finale: 'It's like nothing's real ...'
"Siberia" ended its Season 1 tonight. I do not, however, have much in the way of answers or explanations for any of that faux-reality craziness.

As Irene put it so succinctly, "It's like nothing's real."

Still, it might still be worth it to try to make sense of the death, twists and surreality of the end of "Siberia." We may never get another season to explain it any other way.

Annie dies

Despite Victoria's early-season prediction that everyone else was going to die, most of the "Siberia" cast have remained stubbornly alive. The only actual death we've seen since then was Natalie's -- and that occurred off-screen.

Thus we were due for some death. After the group reunites at the science station, death obligingly arrives to take out Annie. The heartbroken young woman is in the bathroom or something when the others make a truck escape. As a result, the evil...

NBC developing 'Wizard of Oz'-themed drama because CBS can't have all the fun
Who knew that TV execs would be so keen to follow the yellow brick road this development season?

Deadline reports on Friday (Aug. 23) that NBC has purchased "Emerald City," a "Wizard of Oz"-themed drama from "Siberia" creator Matthew Arnold -- just two weeks after CBS put "Dorothy," a medical soap inspired by "Oz" (Yeah, has us stumped, too) into development.

"Emerald City," which will be written by Arnold, is described as a dark remaining of the classic tale of Oz more in the vein of "Game of Thrones," using stories from author L. Frank Baum's original 14 books.

"Dorothy" and "Emerald City" aren't the only "Oz" shows making the rounds, either, it would seem. Reportedly, a treatment from "Heroes" alums Adam Armus and Nora Kay Foster, with "Heroes" creator Tim Kring supervising, is working its way about town. Syfy also has a miniseries titled "Warriors of Oz" in development.

NBC Buys ‘Wizard Of Oz’ Drama From Matt Arnold As Frank Baum’s Classic Becomes The Hottest TV Property This Season
Exclusive: A century after the release of L. Frank Baum’s Wizard Of Oz series, the books have become the toast of this TV development season. NBC just nabbed Emerald City, an Oz-themed drama from Siberia creator/showrunner Matthew Arnold. Two weeks ago, CBS put in development Dorothy, a medical soap inspired by the characters and themes from The Wizard of Oz. I hear there is another Oz drama making the rounds from Heroes alums Adam Armus and Nora Kay Foster, with Heroes creator Tim Kring supervising. And just last month, Syfy picked up for development a miniseries titled Warriors Of Oz from director Timur Bekmambetov, a fantasy-action reimagining of the classic story. 'Siberia': Joyce Giraud teases Carolina's back story, says severed finger was real
"Siberia" star Joyce Giraud says NBC viewers will learn some telling details about her character Carolina's back story on Monday night (July 29).

I mean, I've gotten so much fan mail like, 'Not you! Why did you do that? How could you burn down the shack?'" But Giraud says the answer to those questions is on its way. "They'll see on Monday the reasons why," she says.

Giraud also reveals that while "Siberia" is, in effect, a faux reality show, she and her castmates employ "method acting" and much of what we've seen so far was never in the script. "If you remember when Johnny (Johnny Wactor) chopped off his finger,...

Ratings Rat Race: ‘Under The Dome’ Down, ‘Siberia’ Debuts Soft, ‘American Ninja Warrior’ Falls In Returns
The second week of CBS’ Under The Dome (2.8/8) saw a few cracks in the new drama’s strong ratings shell. Following its big debut last week, the Amblin TV/DreamWorks TV-produced show was down 15% on Monday — not altogether unrespectable retention levels for the series based on Stephen King’s 2009 novel. Under The Dome was easily the top-rated show of the night and by far the most watched with 11.52 million viewers. Otherwise, CBS was all repeats Monday. Like on most almost-holiday summer nights, usage was down 5% among adults 18-49 and dipped 4% from last week. CBS was tops for the night in adults 18-49 and in viewers with 7.08 million. Related: ‘Under The Dome’ Gets DVR Lift In Live + 3 This week, NBC debuted a new drama of its own Monday with Siberia (1.1/3) at 10 Pm. The reality series, from Sierra/Engine Television and producer Michael Ohoven of Infinity Media, received a cold ratings reception.

“This is just a show… isn’t it?”

You can hear someone asking that question in the trailer of Siberia, a new scripted drama about a reality TV show. (It premieres on NBC tonight, but you can watch the pilot early here.) The answer? Yeah, it’s just a show. But what reality TV program isn’t? Siberia proves that it’s getting harder to tell the difference between a “real” show and a scripted one. But maybe it’s fitting that NBC is combining fiction and reality at a time when so many unscripted events have blurred the lines...

Matthew Arnold, creator-showrunner of NBC‘s upcoming summer drama series Siberia, has signed with ICM Partners. He didn’t have an agent. Curtis Stone in The Apprentice (2004)
NBC’s summer series Siberia has found a way to solve the problem of “found footage” projects. You know how when you’re watching a Paranormal Activity movie, or Cloverfield or Chronicle, where the actors are filming themselves, and at some point once the action and terror kicks in, you say to yourself: Nobody would ever keep shooting in this situation!

Siberia is drama series about a (fictional) reality TV show where 16 contestants plopped into the remote Siberian territory of Tunguska. Then really bad things start to happen. Pretty much the only people who would keep a camera steadily rolling...
