Inside Out 2's Vault of Secrets is one of the most important locations in the Pixar sequel. The original Inside Out was a critical and commercial success when released in 2015 and the sequel went to even greater heights, with Inside Out 2's box office cementing it as the highest grossing movie of 2024 and the eighth highest of all-time, along with earning more than any other animated movie. Part of what makes Inside Out 2, so compelling is its highly imaginative and universally relatable story of personified emotions.
As Inside Out 2's Riley grows older, and as Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust are forced out of Headquarters and undertake a perilous return journey, many new and transformed locations within Riley's mind are revealed. In addition to the Vault of Secrets, there is Imagination Land, which has become less playful and more focused on gossip and focused on brainstorming worst-case scenarios for Anxiety.

It’s 1856, and in the historic coal mines of Northern France, a group of miners find themselves trapped in the subterranean depths after a cave-in. But they soon realise they are not alone… Decades later, veteran miner Roland is forced by management to accompany Professor Berthier underground to take samples and measurements. A sudden landslide prevents them from surfacing, and they, too, must face the ancient mutant that constantly craves blood.
Miners in 50s France come face to face with a monstrous disciple of The Old One, which has recently been a major trope in horror cinema – it seems whilst the work of Lovecraft is unfilmable, homaging it is not. We’ve had films like The Deep Ones, The Old Ones, The Lighthouse et al and now this...

Though producer Roger Corman’s contributions to independent cinema are arguably unparalleled, the enduring quality of his directorial efforts is another story. By the end of the 1950s, Corman had directed about two dozen of his own films in roughly five years, many of these derivative genre efforts rivaling the quality of Ed Wood. But 1959 found Corman trying to switch things up a bit, and he delivered two of his more flavorful works. Besides unleashing the Susan Cabot headliner The Wasp Woman (which remains a fun, eccentric commentary on feminine standards of beauty), Corman would skewer the pretentiousness of self-important artists and the hypocrisy of what defines art in A Bucket of Blood, a much more salacious title than the material warrants. Written by Charles B. Griffith, (who would go uncredited next to Corman on his The Little Shop of Horrors a year later), the film is an early lead...

Pity Hermann Haig. Unemployed and living with his mother, since childhood all he's wanted is to be recognised as a brilliant artist, but his desire is far outweighed by his sheer mediocrity. His sculptures - flimsy mobiles made from found objects - are terrible, and his mother is getting tired of supporting him. A call for advice to his uncle Felix, himself a rich and successful artist, results in the offer of an empty studio apartment, and the mysterious promise that there Hermann will find all the inspiration he needs. Michael Medaglia's surreal and darkly comic thriller Deep Dark stands out primarily for its sheer oddness, but as far as unsettling and original storytelling goes, it's absolutely the real deal.

Our ace webmaster Michael Medaglia is also a talented filmmaker. We’re happy to share the evocative, darkly handsome teaser trailer for his debut feature Deep Dark, the story of a talentless sculptor who gets help with his mobile sculptures from a talking hole in the wall of his mother’s house. His career takes off, but the possessive hole wants more. Clearly no good will come of this relationship. For more information, head to the film’s official website.

Ever be sitting alone in your room when all of a sudden you hear a voice emanating from a dark hole beside you? If you were in the 1977 soft-porn classic Chatterbox, this wouldn't be too much of a problem, but in Deep Dark? Yeah, not good.
