Happy TRIPPING!!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha

+1 Star for ht opening TRiP and the pizza delivery guy!! haha

-1 Star for the 'secret' being kept for so long, unbelievable that would have happened

-1 Star for the Ending... although it was kinda funny it just didn't make much sense

I donno I didn't feel the absolute hate for this one like a lot of other reviewers did. It wasn't great but it was watchable.

Disappointing

Not sure how this has got 10/10 and 8/10. There is nothing scary nor jumpy about this, and the Killers identity is very evident. The Plot is weak as is the dialogue. One reviewer claimed is was a Supernatural Slasher film - there is absolutely nothing supernatural in this. Just a run-of-the-mill slasher film with nothing new .... my true rating would be 3.5 as i am feeling generous

No one was ready to make a movie yet.

Sorry to say so, but boy The 6th Friend was a swing and a miss. How could this script possibly get green lighted is beyond me, because it has close to nothing to show for. The ending was easy to anticipate, the deaths quite weak, a lot of focus on dialogue, somewhat of a Tarantino style, but none of the substance.

It just wasn't enough to make a movie, out of a thin idea, poor execution, none of the key ingredients here, just some harsh mix of uncooked ingredients. Not good enough even for a side dish.

All in all The 6th Friend deserves more to be ignored than watched, just put your eye on something else and most likely you'll do better.

Cheers!

Dull and uninspired

I enjoy slow burn horror, but this wasn't that. The 6th Friend is a by-the-books paint by number cardboard cutout of a horror movie, and that seems almost intentional. If you have ever seen a horror movie, then you have seen this one. And you can rest assured that what you have already seen was better. It takes dedication and genuine effort to stay awake for the duration of this movie, and sleep is much more entertaining.

Definitely an F-Grade film.

This is not the worst film I have ever seen. I would consider it to be a strong contender for the worst film I've seen this decade.

The writing is bad, the acting is worse, and the camera-work is nauseatingly wobbly. It might be intended to feel organic, like we're watching through someone's eyes, but if that's the case the 'camera/person' is very short and dangerously drunk.

Absolutely every one of the main cast feels wooden and unconvincing. They deliver lines in ways that would make a high school drama coach despair. Seriously. I have seen school plays with better acting.

The lighting and sound are clear and the director of photography has framed a lot of the shots normally. The editing is mediocre, but serviceable. The plot is a mash-up of several horror tropes, which is fine, but I cannot tell if the dialogue or overall direction is the worst thing about this.

Really

This movie is god awful. The acting is sub par. The plot is trite. The deaths are lame. Complete waste of time.

Follows a tired and predictable formula

Really poor character development, tired script, mediocre acting and oh so predictable. We are to believe these characters are capable of overcoming an attacker and then completely incompetent later. Just very bad.

Not Another Dumb Slasher Movie.

Intelligently written, believable female conversations may not be every horror fan's cup of tea, but it's not only a refreshing change from the norm, it aids to help suspend disbelief.

Yes, on the surface it is a standard 'friends in a log cabin being picked off one by one' story, and yes, the volume of dialogue might slow things down a little, but this all makes it seem like a situation you could imagine being in, despite its formulaic plot.

It also has a nice touch in commenting on the nature of today's like-driven narcissistic society.

A Perfect Example of Why You Should Learn to Make Movies Before You Make One

I'm not really a big fan of Jamie Bernadette to begin with. She gives this impression of arrogance and celebrity status, always in a hurry to use others as stepping stones to get ahead. This movie could have been shot in the backwoods of Kentucky, stamped with a production logo, and submitted for VOD service. Theres really nothing special about this low budget flick. Its a boring hack and slash mediocre movie about a bunch of girls in the woods running away from a killer. The film makers have obviously never received any training or attended film school. Just another actor shot project to try and help get them noticed.

Surprisingly fun

I rented this tonight off if Amazon, not knowing much about it. This one was fun and well filmed. In my opinion, this pleasantly made slasher film had very little faults. I liked the mystery behind it as well, it did a great job at keeping the reveal of the film a secret. Mostly the mystery surrounding the killer's identity or if it was something supernatural. Great job to all involved!!

Failed wannabe horror-attempt

It seems like the easiest way to make a horror movie: put a group of friends in an isolated cabin in the woods and launch on them some kind of killing spree of whatever origin. Not very original, but it may turn out okay when it's at least done with some quality acting, decent CGI and maybe a nice twist to the worn-out premise. Well, here it failed on every account, or you should consider a bunch of severely traumatized women (by an extremely farfetched reason: they once collectively killed, in a drugs-induced daze, a rapist) a remotely original starting-point. They gather in the cabin to come to terms with their past, but then there appears the dead rapist to haunt them. Or is it really him??

No-one of the girls is in any way sympathetic or interesting, the killings are lame and the special effects (if any) are below par. As is the acting of all concerned. What remains is a lot of running and screaming and a whodunnit-aspect as to the identity of the killer. It's hardly a surprise when it's revealed in the end, and the motivation of this killer is totally unrealistic. So don't bother with this cabin-horror, I should advise: among so many other (and better) ones this one is totally redundant.

Ok slasher/thriller

There wasn't anything really wrong with the movie. It's perfectly watchable but it's not exactly good. It's just a little bland.

Some people here are calling it a supernatural whatever but that's not correct.

My Review Of "The 6th Friend"

The story has the potential to expose and, to some degree, exploit very poignant and timely subject matter echoing from the #metoo movement. A group of women forced into a horrible situation at the hands of a really bad dude, lives changed at a fundamental level, then reuniting once more only to have a new nightmare unfold. The concept just begs to perform. Unfortunately none of the material is truly developed enough to really bring life to this cultural battle cry.

The cast do their best to breathe life into the characters, but it soon becomes clear that they don't get it- not completely anyway. The social interactions of these friends feels made-up. The dialog isn't smooth enough to convince me that they experienced the original nightmare and maintained a bond strong enough to reunite. I mean there are moments of strong dialog and gritty story telling, but not consistent enough to maintain cohesion.

The horror elements and actual thriller edge was a bit to dull to sell me on the "new nightmare" situation that the group deals with in "The 6th Friend". Most of the scenes meant to provide chills and thrills seem placed as overworked tableaus. They looked good but in a film where things are already falling apart, they just aren't enough to save it. Overall I didn't enjoy this one, I wanted to, thought it was gonna be good, but it just wasn't.

Why is there no zero rating?

Because this movie deserves one. What a mess. A bunch of stupid women have a reunion and are afraid of their shadows. I was never really sure what they were afraid of. There are flashbacks but of what, I'm not sure. Avoid this one.

Horrible!!!

Terrible acting. So predictable. The only thing that would have helped this movie is nudity....and even that might have failed

Slasher done right

Made the mistake of watching this by myself at night. Don't make that mistake too. This is seriously creepy. The slasher subgenre has a lot of duds, but this has some really new and unique situations that I have never seen before. One of the better indie films I've seen in a while.

More Interersting Than Expected

6 friends drive down to a secluded cabin in the woods after being estranged since their involvement in a self-defense murder. As the night goes on, they all start to admit to seeing visions of this long-dead rapist/attacker and believe he's returned to kill them off. Is he a spirit? A demon? Or has one of them maybe lost their mind and turned to killing their friends?

The 6th Friend is a beautifully shot and reasonably well made slasher film with an all female cast (minus the attacker) that might suffer from a few bad lines of dialogue, a couple of uninspired performances, and an almost total lack of tension, but it's not without its positives.

It does try to bring in a psychological and/or supernatural aspect into the film which keeps the audience on their toes and it's nice to see a movie about a bunch of women who stick up for one another. Once the killer is revealed, The 6th Friend ends on an exciting and swelling high note.

The 6th Friend might not be the most inspired indie slasher film on the block, but there's enough to recommend about it to give it a try.

Feminist supernatural slasher?

The story was adequate and had some interesting moments between characters. Ultimately, the ending was just another simple "twist" trying to be interesting. The plot was mildly interesting given the set up and the question of is it a supernatural force or sadistic human. Other than that, subpar movie effort.

An intriguing if somewhat problematic feature

Arriving at a remote cabin, a group of girlfriends looking to help one of their members get over a traumatic event that happened to them years ago, which turns into a nightmare when they find the killer they stopped years ago might have returned, forcing them to stop him again to get away alive.

Overall, this was a massively underwhelming if still decent enough effort. When this one manages to get going, it has quite a lot to like with the idea of what's going on at the cabin and whether or not the killer is actually after them. Although the stalking and slashing start in earnest just shy of the halfway point of the film, this manages to signal the start of the film turning into a genuinely enjoyable thriller involving the group coming together to realize they might be targeted by someone they know and have to band together to survive. The start to this with the discovery of their friend attacked and bearing signs that it's him, this takes on a slew of intriguing setpieces where they take the fight to the masked madman hanging out around the cabin and the surrounding woods leaving this one with a frenetic and vicious finale. Beyond that, there's not a whole lot here to enjoy. The main issue with the film is the absurdly long time it takes to get going, with the film attempting to shine a light on their friendship quirks and traumatic behavior but doing nothing else interesting with that material. Featuring interminably long scenes with the group sitting around the house talking about drinking, how catty they are being with each other, or their disappointing sex lives that are designed to give a bit of insight into their personalities yet do little beyond stretch out a running time that didn't deserve it, the first half is a struggle to get any kind of interest going for it. That goes along with the series of issues involving how the killer can get the drop on them, which gives the scenes some underwhelming focus, with the whole thing being quite obvious and painful to sit through. That goes for the other big issue with this one in a lackluster story that doesn't make for all-that-interesting a time here. The central setup is so confusing and poorly explained that it's hard to tell what's going on with the group as the whole setup for why they kill the guy at the party is such a clouded incident for everything, it sets the group up to be hard to get behind. Likewise, with the entire rampage so clearly attributed to one of the group members despite setting up plenty of evidence to counter everything, there's so little to this one that strikes as original or creative that it tends to hang over the film as a whole which, along with the other drawbacks here, do hold it down.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.

With friends like these

I reckon the pun finally is intended - well at least I did not have to think too much about my summary title line here. If you are into horror movies, you may find certain things more enticing than others of course.

With horror (like this one) it is important that it makes sense (internally that is, there is always suspense of disbelief and irrational behavior) and has a a grip on what it tries to tell the viewer. Revenge and all that - and making us guess who is behind it all. Well it is not necessary, but it makes a movie more watchable if that is the case. So while this is not close to perfect, it is a decent effort to guide us through it all.
