Though most well known for his musical abilities, rapper turned actor Common is starting to make a decent case for himself as a legitimate talent on screen. Hot off a solid turn in John Wick: Chapter 2, The Hollywood Reporter is now telling us that he’s set to headline Quick Draw, a revenge thriller from Content Media.

Deadine has a few scant details on the project, Quick Draw, which is being produced by Transformers and Red’s Lorenzo di Bonaventura. The plot of the film remains top secret for the time being, but Quick Draw will reportedly have “hyper-intense shootouts, choreographed car chases, and hand-to-hand combat,” like most good action movies, revenge-based or not, should. The film was written and will be directed by Harris Goldberg, who’s written comedies—including both Deuce Bigalow movies—throughout most of his career but who, according to The Hollywood Reporter, “is now reinventing himself in the action sphere.”...

Q13 Fox anchor Kaci Atchison is probably wishing she paid more attention in art class right about now. During a live segment on the Seattle news station, Atchison and segment host Travis Mayfield were doing a demonstration of a new Google technology called Quick Draw. Hulu's next round of original scripted programming is coming, and each show's arrival date has now been set. Hulu has shared release information for all of its upcoming programs, which will hit the site between now and August. As has become one of Hulu's calling cards, the upcoming schedule includes a number of foreign shows that are not available on other American platforms. Several of those programs will debut in the spring, while the summer will belong to the originals for which Hulu is the primary distributor. Three of those series--East Los High, The Awesomes, and Quick Draw--will return for second seasons on July 9th, August 4th, and August 7th, respectively. They will be joined by a new show, The Hotwives Of Orlando, which will debut on July 15th. Hulu wants more consumers to notice its lineup of original programs, and it is willing to spend money to make that happen. At its Digital Content Newfronts presentation, Hulu announced its plan to triple its originals budget, with much of the increase going towards marketing. Hulu's expanded originals budget will cover the second season of shows like The Awesomes, Quick Draw, East Los High, and Deadbeat, as well upcoming debuts like The Hotwives of Orlando, which will arrive on July 15th. The company's plan is to heavily promote these and other exclusive shows, a plan it already put into place before the release of Deadbeat earlier in April. That show's arrival was buttressed with a slew of ads across billboards, pre-rolls, and several other platforms. By focusing on its originals, Hulu can help turn viewer focus towards shows that do not require expensive licenses to broadcast online. That said, the site isn't abandoning licensed content,...

Word leaked out yesterday that Amazon had picked up four of its five adult-geared pilots, with Variety reporting Transparent, The After, Mozart in the Jungle, and Bosch will all end up as series on Amazon Prime. Amazon isn’t yet commenting, but if true, it will mean the streaming service is dramatically increasing its roster of original series: Last year, the network ordered just two series, Alpha House and Betas. Both projects got decent reviews, but like the originals trotted out by Hulu Plus last year (The Awesomes, Quick Draw), neither generated the sort of hype and hoopla that rival Netflix drew for House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black. Things are already looking different for Amazon’s sophomore class. The pilot for Transparent proved to be transcendent for more than a few critics, while all of the other shows also had critical supporters, to one degree or another.

In an effort to push back against competitors Netflix and Amazon, Hulu has partnered, for the first time, with Lionsgate to co-produce Deadbeat, a supernatural comedy from co-creators Cody Heller and Brett Konner. If this new series is anything like Reaper in terms of its quality, we might have a real contender on our hands. The supernatural genre can be a little uninteresting, no matter how crazy the plot twists are. But if you inject just the right amount of comedy to it, you can have something truly magnificent. Some of the best episodes of Supernatural have had a deep root in comedy.
That being said, there’s a lot of power backing Deadbeat, so I’m thinking there are others who feel there’s a great amount of potential in this series. According to THR, Deadbeat was given a 10-episode order and will be produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.

The Hulu original series, "Quick Draw," is a half-hour procedural comedy set in the Old West. It has, however, something of a modern sensibility to it. In this exclusive clip from Monday's upcoming episode, we see that sensibility in a video for a "whiskey support group for not drinking whiskey."
Part of episode 5 -- available on Hulu starting on Monday (Aug. 26) -- the clip shows what happens when the good citizens of Great Bend, Kansas gather together for what they thought was a group for drinking whiskey. Alas, it seems that the Alcoholics Anonymous model isn't such a hit with the men (and woman) of the frontier.

Not since TV's "F Troop" and Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" has there been an attempt at a film parody of the 'cowboy' genre, as Lehr satirizes "Deadwood" with the forensic procedures of "CSI":
