Nesh wakes up one day with no recent memory, thinking it’s 1996. She has no idea who she is and mistakes her own boyfriend for an Uber driver. Its pretty interesting how sometimes two streamers will release similar documentaries around the same time. Take Netflixs Fyre and Hulus Fyre Fraud, for example. Both arrived in 2019 and looked into the wild circumstances surrounding the disastrous titular music festival. More recently, there was Netflixs Escaping Twin Flames, a heartbreaking story that was mirrored in Prime Videos Desperately Seeking Soulmate: Escaping Twin Flames Universe. Now, Netflix and Peacock are at the center of the same conversation but with two very different viewpoints. On August 14, the former celebrated the premiere of its latest docuseries, American Murder: Laci Peterson, and, on August 20, the latter will shed light on the other side with Face to Face with Scott Peterson, which has just dropped a fresh teaser today.

What’s on Netflix exclusively learned on December 15th, 2023 that Netflix is set to release a new documentary covering the 1985 American Music Awards and the creation of the charity hit “We Are the World,” which became the eighth-best-selling physical single of all time. The documentary has now been confirmed by Netflix and is set to release on January 29th, following a premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

Award-winning director Bao Nguyen is behind the new feature documentary, and it serves as his Netflix debut. He has previously worked on documentaries and shorts for HBO, PBS, and The New York Times. His most known documentaries include Be Water and Live from New York!

Per the description found on the British Council website, here’s what you can expect from the 1 hour and 42-minute documentary:

“On January 28th, 1985, the stage was set for the annual American Music Awards.

With the success of long-format cult-exposé documentaries such as Hulu’s “Stolen Youth,” HBO’s “The Vow” and Netflix’s “Wild Wild Country,” it’s not surprising that both Amazon and Netflix greenlit competing docuseries about Twin Flames Universe – an alleged online love cult run by YouTube influencers Jeff and Shaleia Divine.

Amazon’s “Desperately Seeking Soulmate: Escaping Twin Flames Universe” is being released on Oct. 6, a month before Netflix’s “Escaping Twin Flames.”

“Desperately Seeking Soulmate” is based on journalist Alice Hines’ 2020 Vanity Fair article about the “always online, all-consuming world of Twin Flames Universe.” The article and subsequent docuseries, which Hines leads, takes a deep dive into the alleged online love cult, which is still active. Exclusive: Netflix is lining up its next cult documentary.

The streamer has ordered Escaping Twin Flames, a three-part series about the Twin Flames dating platform. The service promised to find people’s true love, or Twin Flame, but what sounded like love might have been more of a dangerous obsession rooted in a cultish mindset.

The series, which launches November 8, comes from Cecilia Peck, who directed Starz’s Seduced: Inside the Nxivm Cult, and Good Caper Content, the ITV America production company behind TLC’s Taken At Birth.

It will explore the story of Jeff and Shaleia Divine, the leaders of Twin Flames Universe, who sell online classes that guarantee harmonious union with your destined partner and will pull back the veil of the universe, a controversial online community that preys on people looking for love.

In the movie Totally Killer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka travels back in time to the 1980s to stop a serial killer. Meanwhile, for Frasier heads – those who consider themselves utterly Frasier-pilled – all eleven seasons of the Cheers spinoff show will be streaming at the touch of a button.
