The movie itself? -- all the tell-tales of a low-budget indie. That is, overlapping credits (writer/director same person); static, overly-lit scenes; unknown actors; static dialog; static editing; no emotional punch; fails the Ebert Watch Test. The marketing? -- another story entirely. Heralds a new generation of "targeted" movies that come out of the box with their own built-in set of "influencer reviews." This film, which has already been picked up by one of the newer "free" streaming services, magically appeared on IMDb with stellar ratings of the same rarified air as STAR WARS or GODFATHER. And, astonishingly, some two dozen user reviews supporting those ratings. However, if you sort those early reviews by "PROLIFIC REVIEWER," you immediately see that virtually all the early entries were generated by reviewers who, coincidentally, starting contributing to the IMDb only this year, in 2024. Serious film fans need to take a moment to understand this new phenomenon and adjust their "film radar" accordingly. ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer." Please check out my list "167+ Nearly-Perfect Movies (with the occasional Anime or TV miniseries) you can/should see again and again (1932 to the present))

The movies was cute, spiritual, etc. And the acting was fair. Tje story is about a teenage coming of iage girl that lost her mother. She is dealing with the loss and navigating the world of dating. She has issues with her imaturity and lack of guidance.
BUT, the soundtrack was horrible. I am not sure what the big studios do ( bass enhancement, background music, etc.) but the big studios have profession sound processing.
If the soundtrack was better this movie would be worth watching, but it was pretty hard to watch.
I stuck with it and made it through the end, but the sound quality made this hard to appreciate.

For the story - I was catapulted into a world of romantic drama that stirred up my emotions in the most delightful way. The concept of the movie was very titillating. I enjoyed the emotional conflict that most people deal with everyday when it comes to loss and love.
For the production - It needs work, but to even be able to get it completed is success in itself. As everyone in the film industry knows, that is very impressive. I have heard about a lot of drama on set. DP'd leaving with the footage because they want more money. After already agreeing to the money offered. Or producers backing out of a project for whatever reason. Or a number of other things. So congrats guys for making this happen. Much success in the future.

How this movie currently have a 7.7 score here at IMDB is a mystery. The movie quality is horrible. The acting stiff without any sense of empathy or feeling. The directing seems non existing and the cutting and sound does not add to the mixture. It was a pain to watch.
Ava's healing process after the death of her mother is the main theme and is depicted dutifully throughout the film. The romances in the love triangle fumble in the dark without any emotional depth. It feels as though there has been an effort to deliver the story according to the script, without understanding that it also needs to feel genuine. All the components for the story are borrowed from better films but then adapted without an understanding of what is necessary to make it credible.

Despite the fact that the Joy Of Horses film doesn't live to its title, it tackles important subjects, love, grief and parenting in an interesting way.
The film's narrative puts all of us at a spot of appreciating the need for one to have a support system at all times as visible from the protagonist's need for a parent figure to help guide her through her healing process and protect her from making mistakes as she navigates her life.
The film's production values are below average however, from cinematography, sound design , production design, costume design, makeup, editing, acting and music among others.
The film's concept and idea are concrete however the screenplay and dialogue needed some work to make the story even stronger.
Despite the downsides of below average key creative elements in the film, it doesn't loose its track as the narrative sets a clear path and understanding of what the characters are and what they want, and in the end some win and some loose as so is life, the protagonist wins and that's what matters most.
This is a promising story and film from the filmmakers and hopefully their next one will be a greater improvement from this.

What I really enjoyed about this film, was the complex storyline. It dealt with themes such as loss, love, family and friendship. It was truly a film about young adulthood. It showed the complexities of a teenager's life in a way I don't see many films explore
Additionally, this movie is much more than the joy of horses. Ava Justin, impressively, produces, writes and stars in this film! She played the lead very honestly. Her character had so many dimensions to her. I appreciated that about the writing!
Definitely check this out and support independent filmmaking! Looking forward to her next projects!

Having just watched ' JOY OF HORSES ', I must say it was a thoroughly enjoyable, and very entertaining movie.
Ava Justin's portrayal of JOY , was exceptional. She was able to powerfully capture the many fluctuating emotions that JOY was having to deal with. Particularly as a vulnerable teenager coming to terms with her own personal loss, and just trying to do the right thing, and please everyone.
The storyline tactfully covered some very sensitive issues.
The cast were excellent, and it was clear to see how much fun they all had making this movie.
I excitedly look forward to see what Ava has next for us.

A quaint coming of age story that explores themes of grief, family, & romance. The filmmaker is able to weave everything into a 80 minute runtime without the plot feeling convoluted. There is a strong performance from Toussaint as the girl's father & all of the younger actors have good chemistry & play off each other well.
With a movie with this plot & subject matter, it is very easy for the material to feel tired or uninspired. However, it feels like there was time taken to make sure that these characters were developed & not nondescript.
Also the casting is incredibly inclusive & diverse. No character feels a stereotype.

Just watched "Joy of Horses" and found it extremely powerful and emotional. The story is highly moving and the actors portray their characters beautifully, bringing the magic of dealing with all the traditional issues teenagers tend to go through, to life, especially being a coming of age theme to which many people will immediately relate too. Ava Justin is a stunning actress that not only plays the role of Joy but also produced this exciting and fresh project. A great film that I highly recommend to anyone who has a dream and wishes it to become a reality. Well done to the entire cast & crew.

This film feels incredibly real, drawing you into its world with a sincerity that's hard to ignore. Joel Paul Reisig's direction avoids clichés, opting instead for an honest portrayal of life's struggles and triumphs. Ava Justin's performance is natural, with moments of vulnerability that make her character relatable and genuine. The script doesn't shy away from tough topics-love, grief, and personal growth-without sensationalizing them. The cinematography is subtly beautiful, and the music enhances the tone without overpowering it. This is a film that resonates deeply, offering a refreshing take on human connection.

I recently had the pleasure of watching The Joy of Horses by Ava Justin. As a lover of heartfelt love stories, this film truly resonated with me, especially through its poignant portrayal of Joy's journey.
Beyond the emotional depth, the film offers a valuable learning experience for aspiring filmmakers like myself. It's an inspiring example of how independent filmmakers can craft compelling narratives. The audio design was particularly well-executed, enhancing the immersive experience, and the protagonist's performance felt authentic and believable, drawing me further into the story.
While the color grading could be refined to elevate the visual storytelling, the film showcases tremendous promise. I'm excited to see how Ava Justin continues to grow as a filmmaker and what stories she will share with us next. I highly recommend The Joy of Horses to fellow filmmakers.

The narrative sheds light on the difficulties that a young woman has as she navigates the transition into adulthood after the death of her mother. It sheds light on the breadth of human feeling, demonstrated by her tenacity and the support she receives from those close to her. The power of love in a multiethnic family is beautifully portrayed in this film, set against the backdrop of modern-day rural America. You may recognize a parallel between your life and the lives of individuals around you and how they provide assistance daily if you pay attention to the main character and the supporting cast in the movie. Her days are spent assisting her grandfather on their farm, and she frequently imagines a life different from the dirt roads and the boundless skies. Something that was once brimming with joy and happiness suddenly felt empty. As a result of the fact that her father is likewise dealing with sadness in his way, she is by herself to navigate her pain. Then, she relied on two people: her closest friend and a newcomer to the area. On the other hand, for the very first time since the passing of her mother, she experienced a sense of forward motion, as if the current of an emotional river was carrying her along into a more positive future.
"From its compelling characters to its beautifully crafted visuals, this film is a triumph of storytelling. Joel Paul Reisig's direction is thoughtful and precise, ensuring every element contributes to the overall narrative. Ava Justin's performance is extraordinary, capturing the essence of her character with authenticity and grace. The script is intelligent and heartfelt, exploring themes of resilience and connection with remarkable depth. The cinematography and score enhance the emotional impact of the story, creating a truly immersive experience. This is a movie that will stay with you long after the credits roll.

Joy of Horses is a good coming of age movie that shows the connection between grief, love, and wisdom combining to help Joy overcome being confused and overwhelmed with life. I liked how the grandfather's calm and experienced weren't over looked, and once explained, Joy took it and accepted and finally used it. It also did a good job keeping the viewer interested with the plot. I look forward to more of these movies from the writer and director, and the success of this movie should help lead to more of these kinds of movies. It has a Hallmark coming of age feel that like home with love and understanding.

I just watched Joy of Horses on Amazon, and I'm still in awe! Ava Justin's performance is absolutely stunning-she brings so much emotion and depth to her character. The story itself perfectly blends touching moments, heartfelt emotions, and even some light humour to balance it all. It's the kind of film that pulls at your heartstrings while making you smile.

Beautifully capturing the restorative power of human-animal and familial ties, Joy of Horses is an emotional and encouraging film. If you're expecting a slow, depressing film, you might be surprised to learn that it's really about finding solace in unexpected places. The film's focus on Joy's bond with the horses and how they aided her development was refreshing. They made it appear natural and real, despite the idea's fundamentality. The farm also had some lovely scenery. The stillness and freshness of morning air are practically tangible. Additionally, the family's portrayal was really true, particularly in regards to the dialogue between Joy and her grandfather. He still has feelings for her, despite his irritability and tendency to dwell on the past. The addition of a love triangle enhances the plot without taking away from the central narrative. Because it made me appreciate the little things in life, this film left me feeling pleased. You should watch this if you enjoy stories about finding healing and beginning anew.

This was a very Nice sweet decent movie for all age groups. I haven't sing a movie like this in a long time. I truly enjoyed this movie.. Ava is amazing.. I would love to see her in lots more movies. Watching young people in this movie reminds me of the movies back in the late seventies. We don't see much of this anymore. When you watch clean movies it is refreshing. I would like to see more of this. My husband enjoyed this as well. No crimes just decent. A lot of our youth need to be watching what it's like to sit down and look at clean movies for a change. I appreciate this movie. Thank you.

This story strikes a chord with anyone who has lost a parent at a young age and had their world turned upside down with a move to a new community. Joy has to navigate growing through loss and the confusions that surround young life. It's the love of a strong father and grandfather, a friend, and the healing energy of horses that helps Joy through her new circumstances. Including a love triangle that forces her to know herself better and make a choice. Yet it's Ava Justin's acting that catches the eye. It seems to come naturally to her, and she accomplishes it with such depth and agility you forget she's acting. Her ability to write such a tightly woven script and to produce this piece is a great showcase for her talent. It's obvious, she's on her way to doing great things in film. Obviously I highly recommend watching this movie.
"I had an amazing experience with Joy of Horse! The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about horses. Their riding lessons are well-structured and tailored to all skill levels. I felt safe and supported throughout, and I've learned so much in just a few weeks. Highly recommend!"
"Joy of Horse offers a welcoming environment for horse enthusiasts. The facilities are well-maintained, and the horses are clearly well cared for. My only suggestion would be to have more group events to foster community among riders. Overall, a fantastic place to ride!"
