The first season of The Beginning After the End is coming to... well, an end. With a second season coming next year , the series also welcomes two new characters in its upcoming Episode 12. Gen Sato (Chrome in Dr. Stone ) joins the cast as Elijah Knight, a mysterious boy with ties to the dwarven royal family. Both new characters appear when Arthur Leywin (disguised as the masked adventurer Note) visits the adventurers' guild to be tested — and both will become regular presences in the next chapter of Arthur's life. Adonis in The Kingdoms of Ruin is a "bad boy" character akin to Naofumi, with a deep desire for revenge. Unlike Naofumi and Raphtalia's problematic relationship, Adonis and Doroka's bond lacks slavery elements. Despite Adonis' dark side, Doroka's influence hints at a positive change, offering a unique character dynamic.
Those who enjoy the controversial traits that Naofumi espouses so well in The Rising of the Shield Hero would undoubtedly appreciate Adonis from The Kingdoms of Ruin on Crunchyroll, since he, too, is the quintessential "bad boy". Most importantly, The Kingdoms of Ruin doesn't pander to the understandably upsetting relationship that Naofumi has with the character Raphtalia, so for those who want more of a villain as a protagonist but can't get past The Rising of the Shield Hero's baggage should look no further than The Kingdoms of Ruin.

In the past few years, there has been a rise in antihero-led anime, such as this season's The Kingdoms of Ruin, The Eminence in Shadow, and Berserk of Gluttony. Antiheroes' actions are often indulgent, selfish, and occasionally evil, driven by differing worldviews and life experiences. These characters feel relatable to the viewer's moral dilemmas and imperfect beliefs in comparison to the rigid, unwavering beliefs of atypical heroes.
This year, there have been numerous antihero-led anime, with this season's The Kingdoms of Ruin, The Eminence in Shadow and Berserk of Gluttony showcasing that main characters who straddle the line between good and evil are becoming more popular with viewers. While these characters have always been present in anime, their appearances occasionally spike suddenly and sharply, satiating viewers' interest in characters whose motivations deviate from the norm.
