Mark Eydelshteyn and Mikey Madison in Anora (2024)

Review by flix_friend_39487

Anora

Cringeworthy

Anora promised to be an emotional and well-crafted drama, but what I got instead was two hours of nonstop yelling and over-the-top acting. The characters feel one-dimensional, and rather than genuine development, every scene is reduced to heated arguments. The acting is so exaggerated that it becomes almost unbearable - it feels as though the cast was instructed to shout their lines instead of truly performing them.

The dialogs are so incredibly profane and repetitive. Did they improvise this? Well they are not the smartest actors, in this case, with not much content in their brains. "What's your name? - Ivan. Oh Ivan, how great. Russian. (she laughs). - Whats your name? - Anora - Ana? - No, Anora. - Anora? - Yes, Anora. - That's a funny name. - Why? - I don't know. Can I call you Ana? - No, please call me Anora. - Okay, Ana. Anora. Whatever. - Where are you from, Ana? -Anora. - Oh yes, sorry. Where are you from, Anora? - From arund here. And you? - From Russia. - What are you doing here? - Vacation! - Vacation, that's great! - Yes! Do you speak Russian? - A little. But really not well. - But your Russian is great. - No, not at all. But you speak Russian really well. Let's speak Russian. - No, I'd rather not. - Why not? -I don't want to. - Okay, then no. - Would you like to go to the VIP area? - Yes, great idea!"

Like this it goes on and on and on.

Also the plot is predictable and shallow, offering neither originality nor a meaningful message. While the film attempts to explore cultural differences, the portrayal is so exaggerated that it borders on comical. Instead of delivering authentic drama, everything feels forced and exhausting. There are no quiet moments, no genuine emotional beats - just chaos for the sake of chaos.

Visually, the film is equally underwhelming. The cinematography is bland, and the pacing drags so much that I found myself repeatedly checking how much time was left. The dialogue is awkward and poorly written, making it difficult to take anything seriously. Rather than becoming invested in the characters, I simply wanted the movie to end.

I honestly can't understand the praise this film is receiving. It's loud, messy, and frustrating to watch. If you're looking for a well-acted and engaging drama, this isn't it. For me, Anora is easily one of the most overrated films of the year.
