AMC Theatres and Iconic Events Releasing are teaming up for the limited release, which will tour through 25 cities in the US beginning on June 5th. Filmmaker Kevin Smith’sDogma has become a cult classic since its release in 1999, and lately there’s been buzz about a sequel to the movie that starred Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as two angels who were banished from heaven. The Dogma writer-director further fueled the fire of the Dogma 2 rumors in a recent post on Threads that featured a picture of himself in front of the church where some of the film’s scenes were shot.
His post from Feb. 11 read: “We shot Dogma here 26 years ago, at the Saints Peter and Paul Church in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh! [Alan Rickman] and [George Carlin] (and my Dad) all stood on the steps of this cinematically sacred place back then, whilst they lived. And this year, we’re gonna honor all of ‘em… when we resurrect Dogma! More info very soon, Parishioners!”

There were a lot of funny movies in 2024, but most of them weren't what we'd call 'comedies.' There were funny action movies, funny dramas, funny horror movies, funny thrillers, and so on, but not many straight-up comedies. One film, however, embraced the very roots of comedy, combining silent slapstick with very early animated comedy to great effect, and it's now free to watch basically everywhere. That would be the absurdist, utterly wacky delight, Hundreds of Beavers.
Hundreds of Beavers is co-written by its lead star Ryland Brickson Cole Tews, who gives one of the best physical performances in years. It's a good thing he was a co-writer, because most actors wouldn't do what he's subjected to in director Mike Cheslik's film. The movie is a microbudget passion project made for $150,000 over the course of many years; actual filming took place in the subzero winters of Wisconsin and Michigan...

Kevin Smith is clearly having a good year. His latest directorial effort, The 4:30 Movie was well-received by both audiences and critics, he randomly showed up in The Simpsons’ season premiere and he regained the rights to Dogma from real-life shit demon Harvey Weinstein. Now he’s ending the year by playing Santa Claus — literally.
This past weekend, Smith took on the mantle of “Santa Bob,” posing for pictures with fans at his New Jersey comic book shop Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash. He even had his costume designer whip up a custom Santa Bob suit.
Smith invited locals to indulge their Yuletide nostalgia by sitting on his lap and poising for a picture “just like we were at JCPenney’s or Sears back in the day — or the mall!”

Kevin Smith’s latest film, The 4:30 Movie, is a brisk affair, with hefty end credits. He tells us the story of what happened.
If you look on the end credits of Kevin Smith’s career-turning film Red State, you’d find a short sentence thanking the people who never questioned why, and instead asked why not. Fast forward to his latest release, 2024’s The 4.30 Movie, and the special thanks goes on, well, quite a bit longer.
Smith pens a note in the end credits of The 4:30 Movie, a missive of thanks to the people who helped him to get to where he is, and I had the chance to question Smith as to why he’d approached things that way. Turns out there was a practical bit of thinking involved.

After regaining control of the original 1999 film Dogma from Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Smith is moving ahead with plans for a sequel.
Smith shared the news during a 25th anniversary screening of Dogma at Vulture Festival over the weekend. “Some people will be like, ‘Don’t fucking touch it. You’ll ruin it,’” said Smith. “And I’m here to tell you: I will. I’m fucking tickled. I found a way in.”
The filmmaker also suggested that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who starred in the original film, would return for its sequel. After he helped the pair “save” their Academy Award-nominated film Good Will Hunting, Smith says the duo owe him. “I have been able to hold that over both their heads for 25 fucking years, which is why they keep showing up in all the movies. Expect a cameo from them — more than a fucking cameo. The only way...

Released almost thirty years after Clerks, the third film once again centers around Randal and Dante, but this time life gets a tad more serious for the owners of the iconic Quick Stop. Excellent news has been revealed for fans of Kevin Smith's Dogma. 25 years after the film's release in 1999, Dogma will finally be made available for streaming along with making a return to theaters and physical media.
Per a recent interview with Smith for The Hashtag Show, it's been confirmed by the filmmaker that the rights to Dogma have officially been acquired. Smith has previously explained that the reason the film wasn't streaming or getting new releases on physical media was because then-owner Harvey Weinstein had been holding the rights "hostage." Smith shared how a new, unnamed company has recently taken control of the rights, and he's already making plans to take Dogma on tour for a theatrical rerelease. Unfortunately, fans are going to have to wait a little bit longer to see it, as Smith predicts that it won't happen until next year.

Kevin Smith’s celebrated 1999 comedy, Dogma, will soon be re-released in theaters and made available on streaming for the first time, now that the director has finally secured the rights to the film after its one-time owner, Harvey Weinstein, held it “hostage” for years.
Smith confirmed the acquisition during a recent interview on The Hashtag Show, explaining that the rights had been bought off Weinstein recently, which allowed him to finally regain them. “The movie had been bought away from the guy that had it for years,” he said. “The company that bought it, we met with them a couple months ago. Kevin Smith's Most Controversial Movie Is Free Of Weinstein Control – And The Director Has Big Plans
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.
Kevin Smith has been at an interesting point in his career post-heart attack. He's been revisiting the past with films like "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" and "Clerks III" while also pressing forward into originals once again with his most recent film, "The 4:30 Movie," which has been met with decent reviews thus far. Kevin Smith has been at an interesting point in his career post-heart attack. Currently, Clerks is streaming for free on Pluto TV. The film, which was the first movie directed by Kevin Smith, was originally released in 1994. Due to its low budget, the film was shot in black and white and primarily takes place in and around a real-life convenience store in New Jersey. It is also the first movie to introduced Smith as Silent Bob alongside Jason Mewes as Jay, launching what would come to be known as the View Askewniverse.

Clerks: The Animated Series was never given a fair shake during its initial run, but it would undeniably make a perfect fit in the age of streaming.
While the film came early in Smith's career and was hindered by a low budget, it was nevertheless a hit due to its critical acclaim.

How does Kevin Smith feel about receiving his best reviews in years for “The 4:30 Movie,” a film that he shot at his childhood movie theater after purchasing it in 2021?
“The lesson is never make a movie until you have the location first,” Smith said with a laugh during a recent conversation with IndieWire. “Because, in the case of ‘Clerks,’ there was a location and then the story grew from that. And with ‘The 4:30 Movie,’ it’s like I had a location and the story grew from that… I can’t fuck up those movies, I guess is what it comes down to.”
Smith grew up attending movies at the Atlantic Twin Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, which was later rebranded as the Atlantic Movie House. And like many independent theaters in America, the venue was already struggling before the Covid-19 pandemic hit. But 2020 proved to be a...

Writer/director Kevin Smith recently revealed the unique condition that Carrie Fisher had to appear in his 2001 comedy, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. While not exactly a sequel to Clerks, the movie is still part of the universe, focusing on the titular drug dealers played by Smith and Jason Mewes. Considering the title is a direct reference to Empire Strikes Back, Princess Leia star Carrie Fisher also had a role, portraying the Nun, who provides the characters with a car ride.
In a YouTube video for GQ to promote his new film, The 4:30 Movie, Smith broke down his most iconic films, including Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. One of the anecdotes he shared was about how Carrie Fisher agreed to appear in the film. Kevin Smith's newest movie has arrived in theaters, courtesy of Saban Films. Called The 4:30 Movie, the film is a period piece set in the 1980s that follows a group of young friends sneaking viewings of movies at their local theater, much in the way Smith did himself at that age.
In an interview with Kevin Polowy of Cbr, Smith opened up on the development of The 4:30 Movie. He explained how the plot was partly inspired by Smith's real-life adventures of sneaking in screenings of many movies after only paying for one at the very same theater The 4:30 Movie was shot in. Beyond that personal touch, Smith also shared how the movie was reminiscent of his first feature film, Clerks, as the whole idea stemmed from first establishing a location before then coming up with the story.

Filmmaker Kevin Smith has recently been hinting that a sequel to his 1995 movie Mallrats isnt completely out of the question. Per Entertainment Weekly, Smith said he would like Sarah Michelle Gellar to step in for the late Shannen Doherty if a movie was to be made. Within hours of the news, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress commented on social media that shes Here for this idea, of joining the cast of the movie.
Gellar and Doherty had been friends for 30 years, Gellar wrote in a tribute she posted on Instagram to the late actress, who died in July after a long battle with breast cancer. How do you possibly find the right words to sum up 30 years of friendship? I keep reminding myself it only hurts this much because there was so much love, Gellar wrote.

Kevin Smith is back with his latest film, The 4:30 Movie. This semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story follows a group of teenagers as they spend a day at their local movie theater, with one teen's ultimate goal being every teenager's dream date: taking a girl to an R-rated movie. The film stars a group of young actors in the lead roles, with a plethora of "View Askew Regulars" in supporting cameo roles, including Jason Mewes, Justin Long, Rosario Dawson, Jason Lee, and Jeff Anderson, just to name a few.
While not set in Kevin Smith's "View Askewniverse" cinematic universe, The 4:30 Movie still has plenty to offer to fans of the indie auteur. The film owes much of its existence to Smith's Smodcast podcast and the saga of "Emo Kev" from the 1980s, and longtime fans will find plenty of inside jokes to reward their decades of fandom. That being said, The 4:30 Movie,...

Kevin Smith had an idea for intriguing stunt-casting in his new film, The 4:30 Movie — he’d hire his daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, to play the Kevin-Smith-as-a-teenager character Brian David. Smith’s wife Jennifer signed off on the idea: “Harley is just a beardless, dickless version of you.” But despite the chance to play the film’s lead, Smith’s offspring turned him down flat.
“She was just like, ‘You don’t think I’ve got enough nepo baby shit to deal with online? You now want me to play you? Fuck that,’” Smith told Hollywood Reporter.
But nepo dads still gotta nepo dad. With Harley out of the picture, Smith turned to her long-term boyfriend, Austin Zajur, that veteran actor from Clerks III and Smith’s TBS reality show, Celebrity Show-Off. “Honestly, he was more Kevin Smith than Kevin Smith,” said Kevin Smith. “He was the perfect, perfect choice.

The 4:30 Movie writer-director Kevin Smith is well aware that filmmakers are in a self-reflective phase, especially after the wake-up call that was the recent global pandemic. In the past few years alone, Kenneth Branagh (Belfast) and James Gray (Armageddon Time) have made period dramas based on their childhoods, but most notably, Steven Spielberg put out The Fabelmans in 2022, detailing how his parents’ divorce intersected with his budding filmmaking prowess. Smith’s 16th feature about his four first loves — his neighborhood movie theater, his adolescent crush and his two best friends — is already being compared to Spielberg’s most recent Oscar-nominated film.
“A lot of nice people online have been saying that [The 4:30 Movie] is kind of like The Fabelmans, and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s sweet.’ And then The New York Times was like, ‘Yeah, it’s kind of like The Fabelmans if the kid grows up to make terrible movies,...

In a case of confusion in a galaxy far, far away, Kevin Smith recently revealed that he didn’t actually know which character he voiced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and he was telling everyone the wrong part! During a career retrospective with Entertainment Weekly, the writer-director of cult classics like Clerks and Mallrats shared this hilarious story of mistaken identity.
It all started when J.J. Abrams, the director of The Force Awakens, offered Smith the chance to voice a stormtrooper. “J.J. was kind enough to let me do a voice for a stormtrooper,” Smith recalled. “And he had a bunch of lines written, so he was like, 'I don’t know which one you’re gonna be. Just say all 10 of these.’” Sounds simple enough, right? Except Smith had no idea which stormtrooper he’d actually end up playing when he finally saw the movie.

Kevin Smith has worked with Ben Affleck on several movie projects, but it seems that while working on 1997s Chasing Amy, the director became so annoyed by Afflecks constant ad-libbing that Smith told him to put that kind of stuff in your own f*cking script one day. Hilariously, Smith noted that Affleck did just that, leading to great acclaim and an Oscar win to boot.
Chasing Amy was Smiths third directorial effort and starred Affleck as Holden McNeil, a comic book artist who falls in love with Joey Lauren Adams Alyssa, who just happens to be a lesbian. The film, like many of Smiths movies, was a huge financial success, spinning its $250,000 budget into a $12 million box office win.

Kevin Smith picks Clerks II as his favorite movie he has ever made. The cult favorite director has been writing and directing since the 1994 indie hit, Clerks. Smith has since gone on to create his own cinematic universe, The View Askewniverse, that connects the majority of his movies. Clerks II picks up 12 years later and finds Dante and Randal getting new jobs at the fast food restaurant, Mooby's, after Randal accidentally burns down The Quick Stop. Throughout his career, Smith has directed 16 movies, including the recently released The 4:30 Movie.
Now, reflecting on his career with Entertainment Weekly, Smith chooses Clerks II as his favorite movie he wrote and directed. Smith notes that Clerks II was intended as a gift to his fans after they supported the original Clerks. He also used the movie as motivation to create his podcast network and touring business, something he is still actively doing nearly 20 years later.

Kevin Smith has shared that he received death threats over his 1999 comedy film Dogma. The fourth film in Smith's View Askewniverse series deals with religious themes and Catholicism. Singer Alanis Morissette even played Smith's version of God in the film.
While speaking with EW, Smith reminisced about his films, including Clerks (1994) and Mallrats (1995). When talking about Dogma, Smith said that the film received thousands of angry letters due to the film's religious subject matter. This included receiving three death threats. Smith's full quote about the angry reaction to the film can be found below:

Kevin Smith is expecting another reasonable hit with The 4:30 Movie, but many fans have been wondering whether he will ever get to make his long-gestating sequel to Mallrats. Talk of Mallrats 2has been ongoing for a number of years now, but as well as there being little movement on the films development, the death of original star Shannen Doherty earlier this year made the impossible task seem almost even less likely than it was previously. It seems that was also how Smith originally felt too.

James McAvoy starred in the Blumhouse remake of the Danish horror film “Speak No Evil,” which Universal released into 3,375 theaters with strong reviews, currently at 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite a strong premise, the latest Blumhouse only brought in $1.3 million in...

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” (Warner Bros.) had an unexpectedly strong second weekend. With just under $52 million, it fell 54 percent (quite decent from a $111 million start), and a domestic total of $188 million in just 10 days.
Its take made up just over half of the U.S./Canada estimated gross of $95 million. That’s up 50 percent from last year, with year to date totals now 12 percent below last year.
The “Beetlejuice” 36 years-later sequel now looks certain to top the original film’s grosses, adjusted to current ticket prices. “Twisters” (Universal), released earlier this summer, was a similar legacy project, though with a different cast. As big as it was ($266 million domestic so far), that’s about half of the adjusted total for the 1996 original.
“Beetlejuice,” however, is faring similarly to “Twisters” overseas. With the film open around most of the world, its foreign take so far is only $76 million, a smaller gross compared to domestic.

Say, would you like another chocolate-covered pretzel? Malls may have passed their prime but the rats still roam, as Kevin Smith is still actively interested in returning to his much-discussed Mallrats sequel, Twilight of the Mallrats, if he can get the right support.
Like a schooner in a Magic Eye poster, Mallrats sequel has never fully materialized (whether as a movie or a TV series), with various postponements tied to everything from studio disinterest to the death of Shannen Doherty. But as discussions have popped up once again, Smith sees a way to navigate Universal. “I think we’re going back to have a discussion again about like, look, you guys are never gonna do anything with this. Like, but we can and would and would and would love to. So can you let us take it out? We’re not asking Universal to finance it, but it’s just like,...

The following contains spoilers for The 4:30 Movie, which is currently in a limited theatrical run.
Fans of podcaster, writer and director Kevin Smith usually know what to expect from his movies. Snappy dialogue, dirty jokes, pop culture references and what can only be described "Stoner Humor." However, this is not exactly what they'll get from his latest directorial effort The 4:30 Movie, filmed at Smith's childhood movie theater (which he now co-owns). Set in the summer of 1986, Smith's coming-of-age film centers around a group of friends as they grow up together and bond over their shared love of film.
Perhaps best known for Clerks and the characters Jay and Silent Bob, films in Smith's oeuvre all embrace a specific tone and style. His most recent efforts, Clerks III and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot can easily be identified -- lovingly or derisively, depending on one's view of the filmmaker...

Kevin Smith has been dipping back into his View Askewniverse in recent years with the sequels Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and Clerks III, and has hinted at wanting to revisit another one of his beloved films, Mallrats, for its own sequel. With his latest film, The 4:30 Movie, now playing in theaters, Smith addresses the likelihood of a Mallrats sequel and what it would take for it to finally get off the ground.
In an interview with Deadline promoting The 4:30 Movie, Smith was asked what the status of Mallrats 2 was, as the director has publicly advocated making a sequel for many years now. Smith would explain that the recent passing of Mallrats star, Shannen Doherty, understandably put a hold on meaningfully pursuing a sequel for the time being.

Smith previously promised that the movie's plot contains elements that fans won't expect.

From Jason Lee to Justin Long to Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith has brought back a bunch of his regular collaborators to appear in the cast of his latest film, The 4:30 Movie. Shot in Smiths own movie theater, Smodcastle Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands, The 4:30 Movie is his most personal film in years. Its a coming-of-age comedy about a group of teenagers theater-hopping across a single day in the 1980s.
Like Wes Anderson and Martin Scorsese, Smith is known for working with the same actors over and over again. Part of that is because most of his films take place in an interconnected universe, the View Askewniverse, so a lot of actors play the same characters across different movies. But even his non-Askewniverse films, like The 4:30 Movie, have brought in frequent collaborators like Kate Micucci and Diedrich Bader.

As Hollywood attempts to keep up with the ever-changing face of streaming, Kevin Smith has gotten into the movie theater business.
The director’s latest film is The 4:30 Movie, which serves as a love letter to small-town cinemas. It came at a time when he was feeling “existential” about being “one more goofy-ass tile to this never-ending wall” of film and television content on streaming platforms.
“I know it’s hard out there. It’s always been hard,” he said. “That’s the one thing I could say. But it’s worth the struggle. It’s worth the fight. Like, it’s worth making that tile, man, because that tile winds up being all the difference in some person’s life you’ll never meet.
“I meet people who tell you wonderful things about movies you’ve made years ago that other people lambast, and they’re like: ‘That’s my favorite movie.
