It's no secret that video game movies have been risky propositions for most of their history, though that's changed in more recent years with successful adaptations of big properties like Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. But back in the mid-2010s, the genre was still mostly wildcards bending toward box office bombs. Unperturbed by this, Sony decided to get in on the business with a handful of movies adapting major PlayStation properties. Specifically, two hit action-platformer franchises from the PS2 era -- "Ratchet & Clank" and "Sly Cooper" -- were put in development as animated films.
The "Ratchet" adaptation was announced in 2013, and the "Sly" movie got a full teaser trailer a year later. Blockade Entertainment, animation studio Rainmaker Entertainment, and director Kevin Munroe and animation studio were attached to both. Tom Holland On Jak And Daxter ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Back in the Uncharted era, Tom Holland set his sights on a different kind of adventure—a live-action Jak and Daxter adaptation. Not just any adaptation, though. Holland wanted it weird, dark, and dripping with indie vibes. “I would like to make a Jak and Daxter movie,” Holland shared, pitching the idea as an A24 project. Yes, the same A24 is known for Hereditary and Moonlight. Imagine an elf boy and a sarcastic ottsel roaming alien worlds in a moody, arthouse rendition.
“I would play Jak,” Holland said, throwing himself into the casting mix, “but I would make it A24, so it was really weird and dark.” Bold? Definitely. He even doubled down, specifying it would be a live-action take on Naughty Dog’s iconic platforming franchise. The pitch? Outlandish. The potential? Intriguing.
For those unfamiliar, Jak and Daxter were staples of the PlayStation 2 glory days.

Carry-On, the Netflix airport thriller that was released a mere 10 days ago on the platform, is set to break some records if it maintains its current run at the top of the streamer's movie chart.
Days ago, the thriller led by Taron Egerton became the most popular Christmas film on Letterboxd. However, per The Hollywood Reporter, Carry-On is also climbing up the charts of Netflix's stats, and is ready to become part of the Top 10 list of the most-watched original Netflix films (this counter calculates the performance of the movie during its first 91 days of release).
The Hollywood Reporter also shares some exciting numbers for the movie. In just ten days, Carry-On amassed 97.1 million views (total viewing hours divided by the film's two-hour running time). The thriller now has Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the film that currently occupies the tenth spot in the list of most-watched Netflix films,...

It's been three years since Insomniac Games teased its upcoming game, Marvel's Wolverine. The short trailer showed Logan after a tough fight in a bar, making fans enthusiastic for more information. Since that exciting reveal in 2021, there haven't been many details, which has kept people guessing and looking forward to what’s next. Three years is a long time to wait, but that may be the reason why more information will be revealed to fans in 2025.
Insomniac (via X) has been busy with other big projects like Marvel's Spider-Man 2, but the team has promised to update fans eventually. As 2025 approaches, many fans are wondering if this will be the year they finally get more information. There may be longer gameplay showcased, or an announcement regarding a release date could happen. 2025 may be the year fans finally find out when they can play as Wolverine. The sort of relatably flawed everyday hero who might have been played by Mel Gibson or Bruce Willis back in the ’80s, Ethan Kopek always wanted to be a cop. Instead, he’s working airport security — and not even the essential job of scanning passengers’ baggage for bombs. For the past three years, this dead-end Tsa agent’s been stuck somewhere deep in the bowels of Lax airport, doing who knows what, dreaming of a promotion that will never come.
Dumb-fun Netflix potboiler “Carry-On” takes place on Christmas Eve, one of the busiest travel times of the year, and Ethan (Taron Egerton) has picked this moment to prove himself, begging his boss (a surly Dean Norris) to “put me on a machine.” Feeling generous, his supervisor agrees, but this is hardly Ethan’s lucky day. Within minutes of sitting down at the Ct scanner, Ethan finds himself at the center...

As the endless debate over whether Die Hard classifies as a Christmas movie wages on, ever so tiresomely, director Jaume Collet-Serra declares his stance with Carry-On, a new Netflix holiday thriller that bears a lot in common with the sequel Die Hard 2. Taron Egerton channels John McClane as a Tsa Agent forced to go rogue when unexpectedly pulled into a terrorist plot at a crowded airport on Christmas Eve. While much simpler and more intimate in scale than Die Hard 2, Collet-Serra’s talents for taut suspense, tight plotting, and propulsive pacing ensure Carry-On delivers on big holiday thrills and energetic fun.
Egerton’s Ethan Kopek is a bit more law-abiding than his ’80s action-hero counterpart. Ethan is in good spirits when rushing to clock into his Christmas Eve shift at Lax, even as his newly pregnant girlfriend, Nora (Sofia Carson), points out his wasted potential in not pursuing...

PlayStation Plus' absolutely stacked library of games only continues to grow and become even more impressive. Whether it is sprawling open-world adventures or more low-key indie experiences, there is something for everyone on the platform. Of course, picking a game to play can be difficult, especially when confronted with so many choices. Fortunately, while pretty much everything on PlayStation Plus is worth playing at some point, there are some games that are just better than others.
When it comes to indie games, PlayStation Plus has a plethora of incredible options to choose from. Its selection includes some of the best RPGs on PlayStation Plus, a selection of phenomenal Metroidvanias, and award-winning gems that many may have missed. Narrowing down exactly what to get stuck into can be challenging, but luckily, there are clear winners when it comes to the very best indie games on Ps Plus.

Jason Bateman is the ultimate Grinch in the trailer for upcoming Netflix Christmas film “Carry-On” — you know, if the Grinch’s M.O. was more mass murder than toy theft.
This holiday season we’re thankful for Taron Egerton, who plays a low-level Tso, which is a Tsa agent, hand-selected by Bateman to be his forced accomplice. Bateman’s a domestic terrorist who is trying to get a bag through airport security and onto a plane; context clues tell us that it’s not just a water he purchased before the checkpoint.
The streaming movie’s official logline reads: “A young Tsa agent fights to outsmart a mysterious traveler who blackmails him into letting a dangerous package slip onto a Christmas Eve flight.”
“Ethan, today is a day that you’re gonna remember for a very long time,” Bateman’s character tells Egerton’s. “But if you handle it right,...

Insomniac Games has made a name for itself after developing a handful of unique video games like Ratchet and Clank and perfectly adapting one of the most popular superheroes into a much more interactive format. Unfortunately, greatness comes at a cost, and the studio suffered major leaks a few months ago.
After the success of the Spider-Man games, the gaming community is waiting for the developers to expand the original shared universe by introducing other heroes like Wolverine. Leaked gameplay footage was shared and the developers tried to shake it off; however, enough time has passed and it is high time for new content.

Sony's latest State of Play showcased plenty of exciting new projects, but was met with a wave of controversy over its Horizon Zero Dawn remaster. While Zero Dawn is a fantastic game in its own right, it's already a visually stunning experience that runs excellently on the PS5, and even the PC with its 2020 port. Given the ever-increasing demand for remasters of untouched yet beloved Sony properties, it's no surprise some fans feel like PlayStation is remastering the wrong games.
This isn't the first time Sony has faced criticism for their focus on remastering somewhat recent games rather than pushing for new sequels, with the Last Of Us 2 Remake being a similar situation. Despite the initial mixed reception over TLOU2 getting a remake merely four years after its release, the added content was more than enough to satisfy most players. While more content and upgrades to an already successful game have their merits,...

Jason Bateman has gone real no-more-Mr. Nice Guy on us.
The “Ozark,” “Horrible Bosses,” and “Game Night” star puts on a domestic-terrorist face (and hat) in the teaser for Netflix Christmas movie “Carry-On.” It’s, ah, not exactly “Elf.”
In “Carry-On,” before Bateman can terrorize a Christmas Eve flight, he first must make Taron Egerton’s job a living hell. Oh, and he might just kill the young Tsa agent’s significant other, played by Sofia Carson, as well.
“One bag for one life,” is Bateman’s blackmail offer.
We’re guessing he doesn’t have Clear.
Basically, Bateman targets Egerton to let his mysterious suitcase through the security scanners and onto the airplane. We don’t quite know (yet) what is in the package, but considering the gunfire and Tom Cruise-esque sprinting through the airport, Bateman’s cargo is probably a bit worse than nail clippers.

Netflix has a holiday gift for fans of trash cinema. Jaume Collet-Serra, the director of "Non-Stop," is returning to the skies for a new action film, this one entitled "Carry-On." Collet-Serra is a maestro of this particular genre, having devoted a good chunk of his career to making ludicrous Liam Neeson action thrillers that are often ludicrously entertaining, and this one looks like it's cut from that same cloth.
Taron Egerton stars as a Tsa agent who has to outsmart a mysterious terrorist figure, played by Jason Bateman ("Arrested Development"), who demands that the Tsa agent let a dangerous package slip through security at an airport, or else the terrorist will kill someone the agent loves. It's the type of high-drama, "what would you do?" scenario that permeated action movies in the '80s and '90s, and it looks like this could be a fun way to kill a...

After getting sucked into the Dwayne Johnson abyss of tentpole filmmaking, Jaume Collet-Serra is getting back to what he knows best: thrillingly calibrated B-movies. Sly Cooper is a PlayStation-exclusive video game franchise based on the adventures of Sly Cooper, a mischievous anthropomorphic raccoon who steals notable artifacts from crime lords around the globe. Born into a line of master thieves, Sly naturally adopted the family business and matured into a thieving expert himself. Later, with the help of his friends Bentley, a hyper-intelligent turtle, and Murray, a hulking hippopotamus, Sly executes some of the world's most improbable heists.
Undoubtedly one of PlayStation's most popular franchises, Sly Cooper has the potential to be much more than a nostalgic video game. Similarly to PlayStation-exclusive titles Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, and The Last of Us, Sly Cooper could make a similar leap. Astro Bot has quickly become a hit among gamers of all ages with its vibrant colors, energizing music, and creative levels. With 80 levels split up between six worlds, or galaxies, there is plenty for this little robot friend to tackle as they try to save all of their bot companions and collect the pieces of their broken PS5 spaceship. The cheerful protagonist is ready for anything that is thrown at them in these intergalactic systems, including getting to take on the roles of some of PlayStation's most beloved characters in special Hero Levels.
Each of the six worlds that were released with Astro Bot could be better described as galaxies or systems with several planets included within each. Though there is a specific order in which Astro Bot is taken through each of these worlds, that doesn't necessarily mean that they are in order from worst to best in the game.

Astro Bot is absolutely packed with references to popular and incredibly obscure PlayStation franchises from across the decades. Fans can encounter other bots that take on the appearance of classic PlayStation mascots and beloved characters. There are 173 PlayStation characters that make an appearance in Astro Bot, with references to God of War, Metal Gear Solid, Wild Arms, PaRappa the Rapper, Bloodborne, and so many more.
With some of the best PlayStation games of all time getting a nod, it can be overwhelming trying to see every single reference. While each and every Easter Egg is amazing in its own right, there are ten truly stand-out references that go above and beyond. Fortunately, fans whose favorite game series isn't included here can rest assured that Astro Bot has lovingly recreated it in the game.

Astro’s Playroom was just a tech survey for the DualSense controller, and the game was included in every PlayStation 5 back then. However, its sequel is a full-fledged title with 80 levels in Astro’s universe. That is how the game is getting so much love around the world. But the problem is that Nintendo fans might not be very happy about it.

Sony executives recently released a statement about the company’s lack of original first-party titles and the gaming community reacted accordingly. Whether intellectual properties for films or video games, the company has more than enough compared to other major competitors. However, these executives seem to forget and it is baffling for a company like this to release a statement without reflecting on their portfolio. Other companies like Microsoft are infamous for their weak output of original first-party titles and never complained publicly.

Countless video games have been released in the past few years and some have been recently adapted to a full motion picture or a live-action television series which were critically praised. These executives have missed the memo and are complaining about a problem they never had.

Growing up during the PS2 era, you were likely familiar with one of these platformer franchises: Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, or Sly Cooper. All three are iconic 3D platformers developed during the 2000s.
One from developer Insomniac Games, widely known today for its work on Marvel’s Spider-Man and soon Marvel’s Wolverine. Another from the powerhouses at Naughty Dog, its early beginning with Crash Bandicoot before entangling itself with realistic franchises like Uncharted and The Last of Us.
Lastly, Sucker Punch Productions came out strong during the PS3 era with inFAMOUS and now Ghost of Tsushima for modern PlayStation consoles. While all three are beloved 3D platformers from the era, only Ratchet & Clank has seen love recently with Rift Apart in 2021.

On paper, Gori: Cuddly Carnage sounds like the height of 2000s cringe, mixing action-platforming reminiscent of PS2-era Ratchet & Clank and Metal Arms with a grim and gritty fairy-tale aesthetic that takes a page from American McGee’s Alice. Somehow, though, Angry Demon Studio has largely managed to get the formula just right, as Cuddly Carnage is just creepy enough to be unnerving, just edgy and trashy enough to sate a certain type of 13-year-old (and 13-year-olds at heart), and somehow still cute enough to be endearing.
Cuddly Carnage takes place in an disconcertingly cute post-apocalyptic future where humanity has been slaughtered by synthetic pets with advanced intelligence, slathering the world in bucket loads of blood and neon paint. All of them have been seemingly possessed by kill-crazy demons, their flesh contorting and mutating in distressing and increasingly lethal ways. Now, the planet’s only hope is the scientist...

Astro Bot has yet to release on the PlayStation 5, but developer Team Asobi seems confident that the plucky mascot will return for another game. While it's impossible to gauge the success of a video before its launch, it's good to know that the team behind one of the most anticipated PS5 exclusives of 2024 is so confident in the project. Astro Bot may have started out as a small Psvr character, but he's quickly becoming an icon worthy of mascots like Kratos and Ratchet & Clank.

The recent underperformance of Concord, a highly anticipated hero shooter, has sparked speculation about PlayStation’s future strategy when it comes to multiplayer and live-service games. As the gaming landscape grows more competitive every year, there are talks about Sony possibly reviving older franchises to improve its lineup.
Over the years, PlayStation has relied on iconic series like Infamous, God of War, Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank to drive its success. More recently, they found hits with newer IPs such as Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima, and Insomniac’s Spider-Man games. With the failure of Concord, this is the best time for Sony to look back at older franchises like Killzone and Resistance, which already have established fanbases.
After Concord’s Failure, Resistance and Killzone Need to Come Back
A reboot of these fan-favorite series could also align these games with Sony’s current vision, bringing them up to modern standards.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter gets a visual upgrade, but outdated mechanics hinder the experience. Bounty Hunter fills in gaps for fans but struggles to hold up against modern gaming standards. A nostalgic hit for diehard Star Wars fans, but not essential for casual players.
Jango Fett is arguably one of the most underrated characters in Star Wars' pantheon of heroes and villains so it's a good thing that Star Wars: Bounty Hunter provides some more insight into the Mandalorian's violent past. A forgotten title for the PlayStation 2/GameCube era, Aspyr's remaster is a win for preservationists and Star Wars fans alike, many of whom likely figured the only way they'd be able to play Bounty Hunter on modern systems was through emulation. If you ask anyone of a certain age, they’re likely to recall a time when video games were considered something just for kids. Of course, in the early days, they were. Nintendo built an empire on making characters as recognizable as Mickey Mouse across a dozen different franchises. And despite the breakthrough of more mature (read: violent) franchises in the years that followed, the golden age of gaming was dominated by family friendly iconography in the larger cultural sphere.
And while Nintendo may have dominated that space, they weren’t the only ones.

In Alexander Payne's recent dramedy "The Holdovers," the Oscar-nominated Paul Giamatti played a grumpy (but charismatic) teacher, largely hated by the student body. It seems that the students of Starfleet Academy are about to hate him even more, as — according to a new report from Variety — the actor has been cast as the central villain of the upcoming "Starfleet Academy" TV series. The Variety report says that Giamatti will serve as an as-yet unnamed recurring antagonist throughout the "Star Trek" show's first season, and that his character will have "a sinister connection to the past of one of the (yet to be cast) cadets." Variety didn't specify if he'd be playing a human or another alien species.

Even those only vaguely familiar with video games probably know names like Super Mario, Grand Theft Auto, and Call of Duty. They’re the franchises that have come to dominate gaming over the last 50 years or so. Some of those franchises are currently being updated almost every year, while the new releases in others have become milestone events that seem to reshape the industry. New franchises come along and others fade away, but the biggest and best video game franchises have been slowly growing for years and, in some cases, decades.

Games are becoming closer to reality with every new Aaa launch. Every time a big publisher announces a new title, fans can be sure of one thing: they will get a massive visual spectacle. The same is the case with the upcoming action-adventure puzzle game Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. This title is looking miles better than its predecessor and on par with anything publishers like PlayStation launched previously.
Besides visuals, though, there are other aspects of a video game that can elevate the player’s experience. With the story at the center of these titles, sound becomes an important aspect. Music, voice acting, and sound design. Going by its previous installment, Hellblade 2 would surely do it as well as one can imagine. Its VFX director reveals how important these things are for the game.

Playstation has been on a generous streak for a while, with a ton of great games going to PC. We previously had God of War (2018), The Last of Us, Returnal, and Horizon Zero Dawn. Unfortunately for one set of fans, their game won’t be making the cut.

After Insomniac Games got hacked back in December of last year, the studio suffered a tremendous amount of information leaked on Reddit and other places. Spider-Man: The Great Web would have been a live-service game with multiple seasons and many content regarding the multiverse and versions of different Spidey villains.
This title could even affect the sales of Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. The multiplayer game will have much content with different villains and alternative universes; this may have been one of the reasons for the cancellation of the game.

Killzone, the now-dead first-person shooter franchise and arguably PlayStation’s flagship shooter title, was one of the most popular shooter games out there. The first was released back in 2004, and the last title came in 2013, but players have constantly been clamoring for a remake.
There have been several PlayStation remakes of popular classic games in recent years, and there will be more in the upcoming year, but sadly, none of them will be Killzone titles. A leaker has claimed that despite several remakes being in the works, Killzone fans will be left empty-handed.
