It's no secret that video game movies have been risky propositions for most of their history, though that's changed in more recent years with successful adaptations of big properties like Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. But back in the mid-2010s, the genre was still mostly wildcards bending toward box office bombs. Unperturbed by this, Sony decided to get in on the business with a handful of movies adapting major PlayStation properties. Specifically, two hit action-platformer franchises from the PS2 era -- "Ratchet & Clank" and "Sly Cooper" -- were put in development as animated films.

The "Ratchet" adaptation was announced in 2013, and the "Sly" movie got a full teaser trailer a year later. Blockade Entertainment, animation studio Rainmaker Entertainment, and director Kevin Munroe and animation studio were attached to both. Ted Price, the creator and president of Insomniac Games, has announced his retirement following more than three decades of service to the company. Three new studio co-heads will take over for Price, who is credited with creating some of Insomniac Games’ most cherished IPs, including Resistance: Fall of Man, Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet and Clank, and Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Viewers who enjoyed Netflix's thriller movie Carry-On have several upcoming Taron Egerton films and a brand-new television series to look forward to. Egerton leads the cast of Carry-On alongside Jason Bateman (Ozark), Sofia Carson (Descendants), Danielle Deadwyler (The Piano Lesson), and Theo Rossi (The Penguin). Carry-On received a Rotten Tomatoes score of 88% and has remained one of the top movies on Netflix since it was released on the streaming platform on December 13, 2024.

Carry-On was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra based on a screenplay written by T.J. Fixman (Ratchet & Clank). It follows Egerton's protagonist Ethan Kopek, a young Tsa agent who is blackmailed by a mysterious traveler (Bateman) into letting a dangerous package slip through securtiy and onto a crowded flight on Christmas Eve. Egerton, who is best known for his roles in the Kingsman spy action films and the Elton John biopic Rocketman, hasn't starred in a feature film since 2023's Tetris.

Back in the Uncharted era, Tom Holland set his sights on a different kind of adventure—a live-action Jak and Daxter adaptation. Not just any adaptation, though. Holland wanted it weird, dark, and dripping with indie vibes. “I would like to make a Jak and Daxter movie,” Holland shared, pitching the idea as an A24 project. Yes, the same A24 is known for Hereditary and Moonlight. Imagine an elf boy and a sarcastic ottsel roaming alien worlds in a moody, arthouse rendition.

The “Ozark,” “Horrible Bosses,” and “Game Night” star puts on a domestic-terrorist face (and hat) in the teaser for Netflix Christmas movie “Carry-On.” It’s, ah, not exactly “Elf.”

In “Carry-On,” before Bateman can terrorize a Christmas Eve flight, he first must make Taron Egerton’s job a living hell. Oh, and he might just kill the young Tsa agent’s significant other, played by Sofia Carson, as well.

“One bag for one life,” is Bateman’s blackmail offer.

We’re guessing he doesn’t have Clear.

Basically, Bateman targets Egerton to let his mysterious suitcase through the security scanners and onto the airplane. We don’t quite know (yet) what is in the package, but considering the gunfire and Tom Cruise-esque sprinting through the airport, Bateman’s cargo is probably a bit worse than nail clippers.

Somehow, though, Angry Demon Studio has largely managed to get the formula just right, as Cuddly Carnage is just creepy enough to be unnerving, just edgy and trashy enough to sate a certain type of 13-year-old (and 13-year-olds at heart), and somehow still cute enough to be endearing.

Cuddly Carnage takes place in an disconcertingly cute post-apocalyptic future where humanity has been slaughtered by synthetic pets with advanced intelligence, slathering the world in bucket loads of blood and neon paint. Astro Bot has yet to release on the PlayStation 5, but developer Team Asobi seems confident that the plucky mascot will return for another game. While it's impossible to gauge the success of a video before its launch, it's good to know that the team behind one of the most anticipated PS5 exclusives of 2024 is so confident in the project. Astro Bot may have started out as a small Psvr character, but he's quickly becoming an icon worthy of mascots like Kratos and Ratchet & Clank.

On X (formerly Twitter), user Genki_JPN shared a leaked list of every Trophy included in Astro Bot, calling attention to the description for the Platinum: "Earned all Trophies. Well done and see you in Astro's next adventure!"

A list of Astro Bot trophies and descriptions has been revealed, and they uncover some details about how PlayStation cameos will be utilized. The upcoming game will include over 150 PlayStation characters, and this time, it seems that the titular robot Astro will be able to interact with them in a variety of ways.

The full trophy list, posted on Exophase, consists of 44 total trophies. Several of the trophies reference PlayStation characters using puns and descriptions with clever turns of phrase. It looks like Astro Bot will have players dancing, fighting, taking photos, and interacting in other ways with robotic versions of some well-known PlayStation characters, locations, and items.

Mary Kenney, who previously served as the narrative lead on Marvel’s Wolverine, left Insomniac Games after five years at the corporation, overseeing releases of several high-profile titles, and has joined the CD Projekt Red.
