To be honest when I started watching this show I thought it would had to do with Famagusta in 1974 and the war in Cyprus. The result is that it wasn't exactly as it seemed to be. The interviews that we are watching in the show are considered real and it's a good idea to put some experiences of what happened. But putting a different story inside something so important its not a good deal to support the truth of what happened in 1974. Also as a musician I think that they had to extend their playlist cause it's very annoying to hear all the time the same music. So it didn't meet my expectations..

For all the Turks that are saying that it's biased etc, they have not watched it since it is banned in their country and Ertogan is doing propaganda. It is a very nice series that shows FACTS and how the Turkish INVASION took place in Cyprus. Cyprus is still occupied after 50 years and this shows how they are still aggressive and believe that they were correct by invading an island. Famagusta shows facts on how the invasion happened and the cruelty of the Turkish soldiers during the invasion. It shows the assaults that took place, the killings, the properties that were damaged and how they still occupy our island.

The human story behind a massacre, from the reactions of the illegal settlers you know it hit the nail in the head. I have visited Famagusta and this series brings to life the real story behind this ghost city.
The series is not only about war, it is also about the human emotions of dealing with a loss eg loss of a child or your homeland. It also reflects on how people continue their lives but remain dependent on their memories and past experiences, as if they expect a nemesis.
This series is for all those that suffered and hopefully the illegal settlers will invest time watching the series before submitting their ratings and then reflect on their history and their national identity in Smyrna, Constantinople and Famagusta.

It's unfortunate to see some trying to overshadow the historical reality of the events in Cyprus by storming reviews with dismissive comments. The 1974 Turkish invasion, a period of immense loss and suffering, continues to be a sensitive topic for many. It's sad how easily some attempt to downplay or distort this painful history.
Famagusta delicately explores the personal tragedies born from that period, focusing on a young couple whose lives are torn apart on the day of the invasion. The heartbreaking loss of their three-month-old baby during the chaos is just the beginning of their 50-year struggle to reunite with their child.
What sets this series apart is its ability to weave the raw emotions of displacement, fear, and the aftermath of war with historical context. It offers a profound narrative that doesn't just focus on the loss of land and identity, but also the deeper, more personal tragedies that followed the invasion.
For anyone looking to understand the human impact of these events, Famagusta offers an emotional, character-driven exploration. The series is a reminder of the stories that get lost in history books but linger painfully in the memories of those who lived through them.

Was really looking forward to watching this as the story is intriguing with an interesting geo-political dynamic. However, despite well thought out cinematography and better than average acting, Famagusta is unfortunately let down by incredible historical and factual inaccuracies.
The timeline seems to start in 1974 when actual troubles between the two communities (Greek and Turkish Cypriots) and the guarantor powers (Turkey, Greece and the UK) began more than a decade earlier - all vital to the story and provides invaluable context but this seems to have been glanced over. The Greek invasion, ENOSIS and the AKRITAS plan have been glorified and the Turkish intervention demonised - all incorrect.
It's quite apparent that the producers and directors were out to paint a very specific, loaded picture of what is generally considered to be a 'brainwashed' view of historical fact. A shame really, had potential.

The truth events on what happened to Cyprus in 1974 with the illegal and violent turkish invasion.
History canl not change and if u visit Cyprus you will see that whole Cyprus was and is greek.
With the illegal invasion half a century ago, and the misleading turkish tourist agents or those agents who are funded and promoted to miseducate tourists and visitors.
Unfortunately many of the visitors dont care about history at all but at least some programs must show the truth out of it and never stop fighting against the wrong and misleading works of the turkish propaganda. So watch to get an idea, even without the vandalism of the churches.

Some reasons why the series only has 2 stars: Weak Screenplay and Dialogues: The series' script lacks depth and is full of clichés. The characters' dialogues are quite artificial and unconvincing. This makes it difficult for the protagonist to connect with his characters and reduces the emotional intensity of the story.
Insufficient Acting Performances: The performances of the leading actors are unfortunately not at the expected level. Especially the performances of the main characters in emotional scenes are far from affecting the audience. The dramatic distribution of this series changes.
Technical Deficiencies: Another point that should be criticized is the production quality of the series. The visual effects and set designs are insufficient to reflect the atmosphere of 1974. In addition, editing errors and sound problems in some stages negatively affect the viewing experience.
Historical Inconsistencies: Another point that should be criticized is the way the series handles historical events. Scene changes and incorrect information in some places shake the audience's trust and reduce the credibility of the series.

I was actually looking for Famagusta, hoping for an interesting exploration of a tragic historical event. Unfortunately, the series falls short in both historical accuracy and emotional depth. The series' portrayal of the conflict seems one-sided and superficial, ignoring the complexity of the situation. It seems to prioritize a generic love story over a detailed examination of the human cost of war. Historical inaccuracies are obvious, important events and figures are such that they can erase the truth of the narrative. The performances are weak and the direction lacking, resulting in a series that is both visually unappealing and emotionally distant. The series fails to convey the pain and suffering of people caught in the middle of the conflict, reducing their experiences to emotional cliches.

Biased and fictional a greek state politics serie , they ignored greek terrorist organizations Eoka and their massacres to citizens and they ignored greece's fascist parts , terrorising the citizens and civil war between communist greeks and fascist greeks also ignored .. biased serie ,more fictional than star wars ..
Besides being a politically motivated biased serie , actors are talentless , costumes are poorly ,low budget serie , definitely not recommended..
Having said that it's good to see how greek opinion is twisted as it can be seen in the other reviews with 10 which the serie really deserves to get 0.

Voting/History issues:
1. The truth hurts, and although it is just a TV series ...the Turk trolls are hard at work to downvote it.
2. In 1974 the simple truth is Turkey invaded Cyprus and occupied roughly 30% of the island. There was no peace operation and the story is just as simple... repeating itself throughout the centuries. The big bad neighborhood bully doing what he does best.. attack when the little guy is down.
3. Turkey has traditionally caused problems for it's neighboring countries, and 'wishes' to reinstate the Ottoman Empire... Get a grip already.. It's down and and it ain't coming back up...
Series Review: It describes, only superficially at times, the ongoing problem with dead/missing relatives as a fallout of the Turkish invasion in 1974. It depicts pain and suffering but sometimes not so well... Directing and acting are sufficient but maybe I'm used to Hollywood productions and I'm too critical.
Related material: To see the barbaric extreme right wing Turkish invaders take the lives of two more Greek Cypriot with ease and no remorse...
Search on YouTube "Memorial for Tassos Issac and Solomos Solomou, murdered by the Turkish government in August 1996" At 0:50 and at 1:10.

Famagusta is very accurate indeed.
You can tell that the negative comments are from the Turks.
Yes it has been 50 years since the Invasion, it's about time the truth came out!
Turkish Cypriots are very different from the Turks in Turkey.
They are friends or marriages have taken place with Greek Cypriots.
Turkey does not want the truth to be told and this why they argue for this production.
Congratulations to Andrea Georgiou for making this Historic Documentary film.
I will look forward to the next season's.
#Famagusta Peace on Earth and to mankind Stop all wars - War is stupid - Respect each other.

Everyone who researches and learns the truth about Famagusta knows that what actually happened was that the Greeks united around EOKA committed genocide and killed civilian Turks. But political interests hide these facts.
You don't have to believe me. Investigate the events yourself. As a result, the Turks intervened militarily to protect their kinsmen there. Since the operation was successful, the Greeks have been making empty propaganda in this way for about 50 years with the shame of defeat.
If you don't care about the acting or artistry in the series, it's not even worth watching. If you don't want to be brainwashed by lies, don't watch it.

Great series based on true events and how the island was divided by an invasion and the aftermath that still haunt the people that are waiting for redemption and reunification free from foreign policies and live peacefully according to UN resolutions at their homeland and securing a safe and prosperous future for their children. This real life drama will touch all hearts and make you cry as it depicts war, family ties, injustice, redemption, love, honour, faith, pride, strength, memories and more. Great performance from all actors revealing deep rooted drama based on true events and characters.

One sided show that truly belittles the struggles of the Turkish Cypriots. Biased and inflammatory I have no hesitation in saying dont watch, research the truth about Cyprus. The Co-Ceo of netflix is Greek Cypriot and by allowing this to air he has shown his true colours. The Cyprus problem is publicised by the Greek Cypriots as one-sided and not their fault, when infact they were the aggressors both against the British initially and then turning on the Turkish Cypriots they have managed to paint this view to the works and portray themselves as victims, airing this is both racist and offensive.

I am not a "Turkish Nationalist" - just a person capable of researching history from a non biased perspective. This programme is factually incorrect misrepresentation of the true facts, events and timelines.
It totally disregards the fact that the Turkish" invasion " in 1974 was in fact the only way to prevent the genocide of the indigenous Turkish Cypriot population by Greeks wanting Cyprus to become wholly governed by Greece.
Would Netflix allow a filmmaker to make an historically incorrect interpretation allowing Germany to give their side of the story regarding the genocide of Jewish people in 1939 ? Absolutely not, there would be worldwide condemnation and outcry but this series is sanctioned and broadcast giving a one sided narrative ? If you watch this series, please at very least google "history of Cyprus" and do not believe everything you see. Very disappointed as this could have been a worthwhile watch.

Famagusta is a powerful depiction of the events that occurred that resulted in the illegal occupation of Cyprus. It's a chilling reminder of how history repeats itself, and it brings up a conflict that is not explored in mainstream media.
The depiction of events and the superb acting draws you in, and even if you have no knowledge of what happened, you can relate to the characters as if it had affected you personally. Every family in Cyprus has similar tragic stories to tell that have affected them personally or have affected those close to them.
Series like Famagusta should be aired all over the world, and just the fact that this show has been banned in Turkey is reason enough to watch it.

Despite the fact that it was an entirely false interpretation of events that employed reverse victimization and left out vital events on purpose, I was not bothered by the historical pretext since I was expecting such falsehoods. But the rest of the series were also all over the place. The production was not adequate, acting was unimpressive at best. The storytelling only got worse and it was not only illogical but at the same time it was in fragments that never quite tied together. Drama element felt so fabricated that even if the actors had a shred of notion of acting I'm sure they wouldn't be able pull it off due to lack of consistent screenwriting. They exaggerated the drama element to make a point that totally cut the show from reality. Despite the saturated drama most of the show was underwhelming. You get the sense that the whole idea was to make a propaganda series and not even bother to make it any good. The scenery could be much better. At least in visually it wasn't dreadful like other aspects of the show. That's why it didn't get 1 out of 10 but 2.

The film distorts historical events and uses biased language, presenting a narrative that is particularly prejudiced against Turks. Instead of offering a fair portrayal of the complex historical processes in Cyprus, it overlooks the struggles and suffering of the Turkish side, creating a narrative steeped in racism against Turks.
For instance, sensitive topics like the Cyprus Intervention are misrepresented, portraying the Turkish military's peaceful intervention as an unjust invasion. In reality, this intervention was conducted within the framework of international treaties and aimed to protect the Turkish Cypriot community from Greek attacks. The film completely ignores these facts, depicting Turkish soldiers as unjust villains without any historical basis.
Furthermore, the language and symbols used in the film appear to serve as a form of racist propaganda, inciting hatred and animosity against Turks. By presenting historical events solely from the Greek perspective, the responsibility for the tragedy on the island is unfairly placed entirely on the Turkish side. Such a film does not aim to objectively reflect the truth but instead deepens societal conflicts.

Famagusta is an essential and powerful series that brings to light the tragic events that took place in Cyprus, recounting the atrocities committed by Turkish forces against the native Greek Cypriot populations in what is now the occupied territories of the island. This is not just a story of war and occupation but also of the resilience and pain of a people whose lives were torn apart.
The series does a remarkable job of depicting the historical context with great sensitivity and accuracy. It transports viewers to a time when families were uprooted, homes were destroyed, and entire communities faced unimaginable suffering. The emotional depth of the characters is palpable, with strong performances that make the viewer feel the fear, loss, and courage of those who lived through these harrowing events.
It's unfortunate that some viewers have chosen to manipulate the ratings of this important series, distorting the historical truth with politically motivated negativity. However, those seeking a raw and honest portrayal of this dark chapter in history will appreciate Famagusta for the eye-opening and heart-wrenching story it tells. It's a must-watch for anyone interested in historical dramas, human rights, and the profound impact of war on a nation's soul.
Do not let the manipulated ratings deter you - this is a series that deserves your attention and respect.

This is very bias and untrue, so disappointing ! It depics the events from a very one sided view and is false in so many ways . When making this type of film I feel it's important depict truthful and honest historical facts which this is not . Perhaps thr makers of this film should rethink what they are aiming to do, if in fact it's to educate and inform the public of exactly what happened they have failed on a huge scale . I think members of the public would be better served to actually find out for themselves what actually happened instead of watching and listening to a one sided view about this historical event . That way people could learn from the past in a much better and honest way .

Netflix's "Famagusta" (2024) stands out as a poignant and meticulously crafted series that brings the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus to life with remarkable historical accuracy and emotional depth. As a historian well-versed in this period, I can confidently say that the series does justice to the complex and often painful realities of this conflict.
The show excels in its portrayal of the invasion's impact on the city of Famagusta and its inhabitants. The creators have gone to great lengths to ensure that every detail, from the period-accurate settings to the authentic costumes, reflects the historical context accurately. This dedication to authenticity is evident throughout the series, providing viewers with a vivid and immersive experience.
One of the most compelling aspects of "Famagusta" is its ability to convey the raw emotions and human stories behind the historical events. The series focuses on the experiences of ordinary people caught in the turmoil, highlighting their struggles, fears, and resilience. This human-centric approach makes the historical narrative more relatable and engaging, drawing viewers into the personal tragedies and triumphs of the characters.
The performances are uniformly excellent, with the cast delivering powerful and nuanced portrayals that bring their characters to life. The emotional intensity of their performances adds depth to the narrative, making the series not only informative but also deeply moving. The actors' ability to convey the complexities of their characters' emotions is a testament to their skill and the strong direction of the series.
"Famagusta" does not shy away from the harsh realities of the invasion. It presents a balanced and unflinching view of the conflict, acknowledging the suffering on all sides while focusing on the human cost. This approach ensures that the series is both educational and emotionally resonant, offering viewers a comprehensive understanding of the events and their impact.
In conclusion, "Famagusta" is a must-watch for anyone interested in the history of Cyprus or the broader themes of conflict and resilience. Its historical accuracy, combined with its emotional storytelling, makes it a standout series that is both enlightening and profoundly moving. Highly recommended for its powerful portrayal of a pivotal moment in history.

How can a series on such a sensitive and painful period only highlight a very one-sided story? This is highly insensitive , particularly when most Turkish Cypriots can give very personal details on their own friends and family members who were murdered by the Greek EOKA soldiers during the Greek Coup from the 1950s onwards (Enosis - which was to kill all of the Turkish Cypriots and join Cyprus with Greece) or if they were lucky enough, managed to escape after being badly beaten which for many resulted in years of PTSD. Perhaps you should have read the history of the region, such as The Genocide Files, by Harry Scott Gibbons.

I'm giving it one star because what's being told here is a lie. History should be told in real terms, even in TV series. Lies can mislead people who have not studied history. That's why I support the removal of this production from online platforms. According to all the history books and the accounts of witnesses who lived during the period, this series lies. In fact, artistic concerns have taken a backseat. It participates in false propaganda. It is very sad that Greek friends are still making such false propaganda. We should live in peace in this era. But the Greeks do not seem to want this. This is very sad for them. When we read the memoirs of the Greek generals who lived at that time, it becomes clear that this series is completely false.
