The Ritchie Valens song Lets Go from 1958 plays as the on screen text says the beginning of the 1950s.
Multi colored ropes didn't exist during the time of the film. It wasn't until the 1970's that some territories started using multicolored ropes.
The rings in the film are more modern looking than the old "boxing" style rings of the time.
