Anthony Dain and Makayla McIntosh in Shredded (2024)

Review by teresacatherine-48002

Shredded

10/10

An aching, beautiful journey

SHREDDED is an aching, beautiful journey of grief, and the healing, necessary power of human connection.

The performances by the two leads are raw, honest, and powerful, and they are supported by an incredibly talented ensemble.

The script, based on auto-biographical events, conveys a tender vulnerability and an unflinching honesty at what healing truly looks like. At times hopeful, at times devastating, and everything in between. Skillfully, everything in the production choices support this exploration - from the use of close-ups (allowing the audience to feel everything the leads are) to the costume design (set the scene of a beach town, while highlighting the visitors) to the score (sweeping and emotional) and so much more.

The film provides a fulfilling catharsis, taking its audience on a moving, beautifully human ride of trauma, grief, healing, and resilience.
