Daughters of the Cult Isn't Just Another Cult Doc
Image
The latest collaboration between ABC News and Hulu, Daughters of the Cult, cuts through all the true-crime documentary clutter of the last decade. Even if you're familiar with Mormon fundamentalism or watched FX's Under the Banner of Heaven (which was based on a different Mormon fundamentalist sect that also ended in violence), the story of Ervil LeBaron and his breakaway Mormon fundamentalist cult will still shock you, as it proves that evil doesn't die.

Ervil LeBaron was born and raised within one of several Mormon fundamentalist sects dedicated to the concept of "plural marriage" (polygamy) who fled to northern Mexico after breaking off from the Lds church in Salt Lake City. In 1972, Ervil and his brother Joel, the leader of their sect, suffered a falling out, and later that year Joel was murdered by Ervil's followers on his orders.

Hulu New Releases: January 2024
Image
As the aftereffects of the writers’ and actors’ strikes hit streaming in a big way, there’s not a lot of new content to offer subscribers early in 2024. Hulu still has some interesting things to offer in January, though.

The biggest new Hulu Original series in the new year is Death and Other Details, a locked room murder mystery starring Mandy Patinkin as Rufus Cotesworth, who is said to be the world’s greatest detective – at least in this universe. In the new series, Cotesworth comes to the rescue when an unfortunate soul is killed on lavish Mediterranean ocean liner, and he has to team up with the prime suspect (Violett Beane) to solve the crime.

The big Original movie premiere in January is Self Reliance, which follows a middle-aged dude (Jake Johnson) who gets randomly invited into a limo by Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg, and is soon offered...

Every Original TV Series Coming to Hulu in January 2024

Hulu has been an integral part of the streaming industry since its inception in 2008. So many streaming services are lacking in certain areas, such as not being able to provide a good experience despite having an extensive catalog of movies and TV shows. In this regard, Hulu distinguishes itself from its competitors, making it an excellent choice for binge-watchers.

Having said that, Hulu didn't produce any original programming in its first three years of existence, but 2011 was a game changer when it released a web series named The Morning After. Fast forward over a decade, and we now have a slew of Hulu original films and television series to stream whenever we want. Furthermore, thanks to the streamer's commitment to deliver more of these originals, we have an exciting month ahead. So, without further ado, here are the best Hulu originals you can watch in January 2024.

Austin Butler in Apple TV+’s ‘Masters of the Air’

The 2023-2024 primetime television season looked nothing like previous years, with reruns, unscripted shows, and international imports populating broadcast networks’ lineups. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, though undeniably justified, took quite a toll on all the networks. Fortunately, the strikes have been settled, production has begun on nearly every new and returning series, and the midseason January lineup hints that things are slowly returning to normal.

Here’s a look at the shows scheduled to launch their new season – or series – premieres in January 2024. NBC’s Chicago shows – Chicago Fire, Med, and P.D. – will kick off new seasons on January 17th, with the Law & Order franchises returning on January 18th. New highly anticipated series debuting in January include Echo, Expats, Masters of the Air, The Brothers Sun, and Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale.
