Jeon Do-yeon in Way back home (2013)
Jeong-yeon is a caring wife and mother and a sensitive woman who finds herself plunged into a legal ordeal thousands of miles from home. After years of planning, she and her husband Jong-bae open an auto body repair shop, only to see everything theyÂ’ve worked for stripped away when a loan Jong-bae had guaranteed defaults. Facing financial despondency, the couple gets into a vicious fight about money, sending Jeong-yeon away, leaving only a cryptic note saying sheÂ’ll be back in a few days. When she turns up looking nervous at Orly Airport in Paris with over 30 kilograms of cocaine in her luggage, it is the beginning of a globe-spanning nightmare that began with an old friend and a tempting proposition.

    this made me cry

The story of a woman who transport drugs into Korea might be a turn off to you at first and you might think that she deserves all she gets, but this film is really gripping and if you have any emotions they will flow out of you through this movie, the acting is excellent by all the actors and as a personal thing I just love Ko Soo and have never seen him act badly, the performance to remember is his wife in this who really grabs at your heart even though technically she is a criminal but she pays dearly for her unwitting crime. This is a stellar movie and surely worth a couple hours of your time. It took me a while to get hold of a copy with English subs but it really was worth the wait. If you don't like this feel free to blame me but realise there must be something wrong with you emotions, 2 hours of my life that I was glad to give.

    scathing indictment

This searing true life story is clearly and effective. A scathing indictment of the Korean embassy in France and the Mnistry of Foreign Affairs. Shocking conditions in Martinique - like the movie Papillon but in the 2000s. They filmed on location in the Caribbean. The acting is great from Jeon Do-yeon as the wife and mother who makes the mistake of carrying what she thought was gemstones into France. Go Soo plays her husband. Both don't overact and are more effective for it.

    Emotional story with message...!!!

A women caught in france airport for holding smuggling goods from korea..but she dont know about that goods and she couldnt explain because of lack of english knowledge..finally by the help of her husband she came back to korea and see her child after 2 years... Very sentiment and thriller movie adaption from true incident...must watchable..

    spellbindingly beautiful

Way Back Home is a superb drama that exposes inefficient, brainless bureaucracy and is all about its natural, flawed human characters and a tragic real story. It's touching, superbly acted and well-crafted. It was the second time this year I was that moved by a film and that should speak volumes about the fantastic and honest emotional core this movie has. Definitely recommend.

    Emotionally destroying .. a masterpiece

An instant favorite of mine . "Way Back Home" is not only one of the saddest films I have ever seen , but one of the best films I have ever seen period. Jeon Do Yeon delivers an outstandingly incredible emotional powerhouse performance once again (Before with Secret Sunshine) and deserves an Oscar . The score is breathtakingly beautiful and heartbreaking , the cinematography is personal and brilliantly handled , and the story/screenplay will have you hooked within minutes of the opening title.

This is a film that will make you question how such a thing can happen , you will be incredibly frustrated and angry , you will find it hard to watch and you WILL cry ... LOTS .

It's a tough and emotionally destroying masterpiece that everyone needs to watch.

    • Trivia
In order to achieve maximum realism in telling the true story of a housewife accused of drug trafficking in Martinique, the film was shot in the Caribbean-a first for a Korean movie-and two other countries, Korea, and France. It is filled with locations never before attempted in Korean cinema, such as Dominica's Najayo Prison, Paris' Orly Airport, the Korean Embassy to France, and the Caribbean. The film staff invested vast amounts of time in finding locations and obtaining permits. For example, it took nearly two years to secure the permit to shoot in the Najayo women's prison, and filming took place on a tight 6-day schedule.
