L'Interview qui tue !

If You Loved The Studio, Watch Seth Rogen’s Gem That’s Leaving Netflix
Image
Being a fan of Seth Rogen’s The Studio is completely natural since the show is quite hilarious. If you loved The Studio, there is a movie with a similar concept, also starring Seth Rogen. However, it’s going to leave Netflix in 28 days (according to What’s On Netflix).

That’s more than enough time to watch Rogen’s The Interview, a 2014 movie with a similar concept that made The Studio so popular. However, it was because the movie was so ahead of its time that The Interview remained a hidden gem.

For those of you who haven’t yet seen the movie, it was a bit controversial in terms of its storyline.

Sony Hedd Reacts to Seth Rogen’s Hit Record-Breaking Show: “Studio Execs Are Not Morons”
Image
Appearing on The Town podcast, actor-producer Seth Rogen joked that sometimes, studios need to be saved from their own bad ideas. As an example, he cited Apple’s suggestion for a planned cameo in his satirical series, The Studio, to be performed by Apple CEO Tim Cook. But Rogen and his co-creators, including longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg, were certain that the cameo would be funnier if it were performed by Netflix’s co-ceo Ted Sarandos. They were apparently quite right; The Studio has emerged as one of the most acclaimed series of the year, and is being floated as one of the favorites at the upcoming Emmys. But one real-life...

‘Awards Chatter’ Pod: Seth Rogen on ‘The Studio’ and How It Was Shaped by ‘Freaks and Geeks,’ ‘Superbad,’ ‘The Green Hornet’ and the Sony Hack
Image
“My career is not one steeped with awards attention,” notes Seth Rogen, chuckling in his inimitable way, on the latest episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast. “I’ve accepted that, and that’s become fine with me. So it is nice and sort of novel that, after working for this long, something new and exciting can happen.”

The Canadian actor, writer, producer and director is referring to the TV Academy’s tremendous embrace of the The Studio, the Apple TV+ comedy series about a present-day Hollywood studio chief that he co-created, co-wrote, co-directed and stars in. Last month, the show received 23 Emmy nominations — breaking Ted Lasso’s record for most noms for a rookie comedy and tying the second season of The Bear’s record for most noms for any season of a comedy — including acting, writing, producing and directing noms for Rogen himself. He emphasizes, “We’re very thrilled about it.

Denzel Washington Starred in Forgotten Cyberpunk Russell Crowe Movie Solely for The Money
Image
Denzel Washington played the role of Lieutenant Parker Barnes in the 1995 sci-fi action movie Virtuosity, a critical and commercial disaster, the Oscar-winner admitted to doing only for a paycheck. In a conversation with The Interview, Washington stated:

Especially Virtuosity, that was… I had some bills to pay.

The actor jokingly added that he only signed on for the cyberpunk-inspired movie, co-starring Russell Crowe, because he had to pay tuition fees for his children’s education. As a result, Washington made it clear that he only joined the Brett Leonard-directed movie for a payday.

Denzel Washington Wanted Russell Crowe’s Role in Virtuosity

Along with Washington, the movie features Russell Crowe as Sid 6.7, a regenerating android made from the personalities of several serial killers. Virtuosity marked one of Crowe’s earliest Hollywood roles, before his Oscar-winning success with Gladiator.

‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Easter Egg Honoring Cameron Boyce Hits Fans Right in the Feels: ‘He Really Loved That Kid’
Image
Nearly 30 years after the original “Happy Gilmore,” its sequel hit Netflix this weekend, and among the many cameos in it, one is hitting fans directly in the heart: Cameron Boyce.

Boyce played Sandler’s son in the “Grown Ups” films, and sadly, the actor died in 2019 at the age of 20. In 2020, Sandler included an homage to Boyce at the end of his film “Hubie Halloween,” and in “Happy Gilmore 2,” he made sure his onscreen son was included once again.

Early in the film, Happy heads to a local golf course to start shaking off the rust and practice for an upcoming tournament. As he approaches the stand to check in, the employees can be seen watching an episode of “Jessie,” the Disney Channel series where Boyce rose to fame. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, but the credits of “Happy Gilmore 2” confirm the footage from Disney.

Eminem Nearly Played Matt Damon's Character In A Sci-Fi Movie
Image
Marshall Bruce Mathers III, better known as Eminem, is the best-selling rapper in recording music history. In a career spanning nearly 30 years and counting, Eminem has been one of the most dominant forces in hip-hop and has also pursued some acting roles here and there. Most notably, he appeared as up-and-coming Detroit rapper Jimmy Smith Jr., Aka B-Rabbit, in Curtis Hanson's "8 Mile." The film was semi-autobiographical, based on Eminem's real-life experiences, and won him an Academy Award alongside co-songwriters Jeff Bass and Luis Resto. Although the film follows some derivative cinematic tropes, it is fondly remembered by Eminem fans as one of the highlights of his career, boasting success at the box office and on the Billboard charts.

Not every prominent musician can headline a film to box office success, as proven by The Weeknd's recent box office bomb, "Hurry Up Tomorrow." But to Eminem's credit, he...

Seth Rogen Claims This VHS Tape Would End His Career If Found
Image
Imagine, if you will, a world where Seth Rogen — an actor and writer known for everything from "Freaks & Geeks" to "Superbad" and "Knocked Up" — appeared in "Gigli," the 2003 movie that may or may not have fractured stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's relationship for the first time. Apparently, that kind of almost happened, and Rogen claims that his audition is so deeply offensive that if anyone ever found the tape, he'd be ruined forever.

At this point, I'd like to put forth the idea that Rogen has accrued enough cultural goodwill by just being a seemingly good dude — look no further than his continued and passionate support for Alzheimer's research and care provided by the government, as just one example — but he's probably right that this video should never see the light of day. See, the role that Rogen auditioned for is Brian, a mentally challenged young man...

"I Don't Think So": Sandra Oh Walks Back On Previous Comment About Returning As Cristina Yang In Grey's Anatomy
Image
Sandra Oh is walking back on her previous comment about potentially returning in Grey’s Anatomyas Cristina Yang. An original cast member, Sandra Oh left Grey’s Anatomy in season 10 with an exit storyline that truly did justice to the role. It re-emphasized Cristina's unwavering commitment to her career by having her become the director of cardiothoracic surgery at the Klausman Institute for Medical Research in Switzerland.

Speaking to The New York Times during a live recording of an episode of their podcast The Interview (via People), Sandra Oh denied the possibility of a Cristina Yang return to Grey’s Anatomyat this point, effectively walking back on her previous comment and explaining what drove her to repeatedly oppose returning as Cristina on Grey’s Anatomy over the years. Oh also explained what led her to seemingly change her stance on returning to Grey’s Anatomy last March, addressing the thought process behind her surprising comments at the time.

Sandra Oh Reveals Whether Fan Ardor Is Enough for Her to Return to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
Image
Dr. Cristina Yang is just a phone call or a text message away in the world of Grey’s Anatomy, but fans haven’t seen Sandra Oh’s character come back to Seattle since her 2014 departure. And it sounds like we won’t see her on the ABC medical drama any time soon. Oh expressed an openness to playing Cristina again in an interview published earlier this year. But during a live event for the New York Times podcast The Interview on June 12, the actor seemingly shut that door again after co-host Lulu Garcia-Navarro asked whether she’d return to the role. “What I have noticed — this is 10 years out from leaving the show — is the deep appreciation that I have for the people who appreciate Cristina,” Oh said at the event, per People. “It is that love that has made me go, ‘Oh. The fans really, really, really want it,...

10 Best Alexander Skarsgård Movies And TV Shows, Ranked
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

2025 is quietly shaping up to be the Year of the Skarsgård. Coming off the science fiction blockbuster hit "Dune: Part Two" from last year, patriarch Stellan Skarsgård has once again helped elevate genre content with a stunning dramatic turn in the "Star Wars" prequel series "Andor" on Disney+. Meanwhile, Bill Skarsgård has returned to the world of Stephen King and Pennywise the Clown, reprising the role that made him a household name in the HBO series "It: Welcome to Derry." But perhaps most significant of all is the latest endeavor of Alexander Skarsgård, an arguably underrated member of the acting dynasty currently leading "Murderbot," one of the buzziest shows of Apple TV+ triumphant 2025 run.

It's possible Alexander doesn't get as much attention because his most high-profile swing at a blockbuster turned out to be a major box office bomb. There...

Seth Rogen Admitted His Biggest Challenge in Creating ‘The Studio’ Was Realising He Can’t Make Movies like Pineapple Express Anymore
Image
One of the most popular Apple TV+ shows right now just got done with a season. And it has turned heads worldwide – The Studio is known for showing the chaos that comes with running a film studio, and it’s filled with amazing casts, real directors, and actors who play roles that are in contrast to their characters.

The Studio was directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who are also actors in the show. The Neighbors actor, over the years, has made plenty of movies that have become popular pop culture trademarks. They both have directed plenty of movies, and he recently talked about how he won’t be able to make movies like Pineapple Express and Superbad anymore.

The Studio Is Funny but Is It Just a Vanity Project for Seth Rogen to Hang With His Famous Friends?
Image
Seth Rogen is no stranger to comedic roles, but why has the actor chosen to create a show with many of his friends now?

There are certain polarizing figures in Hollywood, and Seth Rogen is one of them. You either think he’s a comedic genius or a total fraud. We have similar polarizing thoughts on his new Apple TV+ show, The Studio.

If you haven’t yet watched, the first thing you’ll think is, “What was the budget for this show?” And it’s not because of CGI or spectacular sets.

(Courtesy of Apple TV+)

The Studio boasts a cast of some highly familiar and celebrated Hollywood faces. But is that enough for a successful show?

More to the point, is Seth trying to make a successful show, or did he create a job where he gets to hang out with all his famous friends?

'A Minecraft Movie' Unfinished Workprint Leaks Online as Adaptation Hits Theaters
Image
An entire unfinished cut of A Minecraft Movie has leaked online just as the completed movie opened in theaters. Of course, that didn't stop it from becoming the biggest opening weekend of 2025. A Minecraft Movie took the world by storm as the movie performed well above its initial $60 million projected opening weekend and grossed $157 million in its opening weekend, beating The Super Mario Bros. Movie as the highest-grossing opening weekend for a video game movie. While A Minecraft Movie had a lot to celebrate, it wasn't all good news, as Warner Bros. found themselves scrambling to stop a completed film cut with unfinished visual effects from spreading across the internet.

Variety revealed that a workprint for A Minecraft Movie leaked online right before the film opened worldwide. The cut of the movie contained an unfinished VFX shot that began circulating online just as A Minecraft Movie was starting its theatrical release.

Megyn Kelly Insists She’s “Still a Journalist” While Explaining Endorsement of Donald Trump
Image
Former network news anchor Megyn Kelly defended her on-stage endorsement of President Donald Trump during his re-election campaign and insisted that she is still a journalist but now exists in a “new world” of podcasting where journalistic ethics don’t apply in an interview in the New York Times on Monday.

Kelly, 54, has been hosting a news, opinion and commentary podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show, since 2020 after a career in law and journalism that led her to massive success as a Fox News anchor with a weeknight news show, The Kelly File. But the former TV news personality’s accusations against former Fox News chairman Roger Ailes and a hard-hitting question for Donald Trump at a 2016 election cycle debate led to her exit from the conservative outlet and to NBC News, where she signed a lucrative contract, but famously lost the gig after multiple on-air snafus.

The popular podcaster candidly...

Just How Much Is Catherine O’Hara’s ‘The Studio’ Character Based on Amy Pascal?
Image
If you know your way around a Hollywood face sheet, chances are one character in Apple TV+’s “The Studio” might look and sound familiar to you: Catherine O’Hara’s Patty Leigh, where the “Schitt’s Creek” Emmy-winning actress is obviously doing a play on producer Amy Pascal. Especially in terms of Patty’s hairstyle, wanton tresses that feel like an extension of her frittering mind after she’s ousted from the fictional studio Continental Pictures.

Patty is introduced in Episode 1 of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s series entreating new studio chief Matt Remnick (Rogen) to give her a three-year overall exclusive deal — a standard exiting strategy and one where Patty also asks for a “put picture,” or one she can greenlight without the studios’ permission. Given that Pascal is one of the most influential producers in town — and one of its most powerful women — and is also one whom...

The Conners Season 7: Cast, Streaming Details, Plot For the Finale and All You Need to Know

The Conners happened out of a second thought when Roseanne makers couldn’t move forward with their planned main series continuation. Roseanne Barr’s racist tweets shut down any plans for the planned eleventh season. However, The Conners did not end up becoming another spin-off of a classic sitcom that fizzled out after a couple of seasons.

Seth Rogen Says Catherine O’Hara’s Character in ‘The Studio’ Is Based on Amy Pascal: ‘She Took Huge Risks’
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “The Studio” Season 1, Episode 1.

There’s no limit of impressive cameos in “The Studio,” Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s love-hate letter to Hollywood. But out of all the A-list guest stars, there was one who really stunned Rogen: Academy Award winner Martin Scorsese.

“Scorsese was very impressive and a very funny performer — like legitimately funny — and was really firing on all cylinders,” Rogen told TheWrap.

Scorsese appears in the first episode of “The Studio” as himself. After Matt Remick (Rogen) is thrust into his dream job following the unceremonious ousting of his mentor Patty (Catherine O’Hara), the pressure is on for him to make his first movie a hit. The only problem? That first project has to be a movie adaptation of Kool-Aid, an idea that’s a commercial nightmare to the film-loving Matt. “The Promotion” follows Matt as he desperately tries to...

Seth Rogen Torches Hollywood: How the Sony Hack, ‘The Green Hornet’ and Virtue Signaling Inspired His Showbiz Satire ‘The Studio’
Image
In 2003, a few years after “Freaks and Geeks” and a few before “Superbad,” Seth Rogen sat in a Hollywood boardroom with his best friend and creative partner, Evan Goldberg. They were barely legal and new to Los Angeles, pitching a teen sex comedy set in ancient Rome called “Gen Ccx.” Rogen doesn’t remember much about the script — it never got made. But something an executive said at the meeting stuck with him for more than two decades.

“I love movies, but now I have this fear that my job is to ruin them,” the unnamed exec told them. Twenty-two years later, that tragicomic koan would become the driving force behind “The Studio,” the scorching showbiz satire that stars Rogen as the newly appointed head of a film studio. Rogen recites that line in the first episode of the Apple TV+ comedy, out March 26.

“It was a very humanizing moment,...

Seth Rogen in Ninja Turtles: Teenage Years (2023)
Superbad | Sony refused to let Jonah Hill use a PlayStation because his character was “vile”
Seth Rogen in Ninja Turtles: Teenage Years (2023)
Co-writer and star Seth Rogen claims that distributor Sony thought Jonah Hill’s character was “too vile” to interact with a PlayStation console in 2007’s Superbad.

Joint screenwriters Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg put their own teenage experiences in what became their hit 2007 comedy, Superbad – though some of their antics appeared to have been a bit much for distributor, Sony.

While walking the red carpet for his latest comedy, the Apple TV+ series, The Studio, Rogen was asked by Rotten Tomatoes about the funniest note he’d ever received from a company executive. Rogen then revealed that, during the production of Superbad, he was told that Jonah Hill’s character, Seth, was considered so “reprehensible” that he was expressly forbidden from touching a Sony PlayStation.

In a clip uploaded to TikTok (as spotted by Variety), Rogen says: “We were told when we made the movie, Jonah Hill’s character, Seth,...

'The Studio' Review: Seth Rogen Takes on Hollywood in Apple TV+'s Smart, Hilarious Satire

Many of us were first introduced to Seth Rogen close to 25 years ago when he played Ken Miller, one of the “freaks” in Freaks and Geeks, then, as part of Judd Apatow’s usual group of actors and comedians he liked to work with, in comedy hits like The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Superbad, and the Rogen-starring Knocked Up. It didn’t take long for him to climb the Hollywood ladder, making his feature directorial debut with This Is the End, alongside co-director Evan Goldberg, almost causing an international incident with their second film, The Interview, becoming a producer on projects as varied as The Disaster Artist, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, The Boys, and Pam & Tommy (just to name a few), and starred in films by directors like Steven Spielberg, Danny Boyle, Michel Gondry, and Sarah Polley. Over the course of the 21st century, we’ve basically watched Rogen...

“I’m a hired gun”: Modern Family’s Ed O’Neill Couldn’t Answer the Most Basic Question About His Character Even After Years
Image
Ed O’Neill’s portrayal of Jay Pritchett in Modern Family stands as one of the most beloved and integral parts of the show. As the patriarch of the family, Jay brought a unique blend of humor, complexity, and a little bit of grumpiness. Through his performance over the series, O’Neill developed his character into a genuine figure who improved himself as a father and a husband.

However, having portrayed the character for a few years, O’Neill admitted he didn’t know the most basic details about his character Jay. In an old interview, he surprisingly forgot to answer the strengths and weaknesses of his character in Modern Family. Reflecting on the old video, his response is sure to upset many fans.

We’re still waiting to see what Marvel Studios plans to do with their major overhaul and reboot of the “X-Men” franchise (minus a handful of nods and teases), but there is a neat bit of information about one of the Fox-era projects that never saw the light of day, “Gambit.”

Actress Lizzy Caplan (“The Interview”), who was originally cast alongside Channing Tatum (“21 Jump Street”) and Lea Seydoux (“No Time To Die”), has revealed the tone the scrapped superhero heist pic was going for while chatting with Business Insider.

Script for Seth Rogen, James Franco’s The Interview 2 Writes Itself: North Korean Hackers Pull History’s Largest Heist Worth an Earth-Shattering $1.5 Billion Dollars
Image
The Interview was one of Seth Rogen and James Franco’s crowning film achievements, which echoed the likes of The Dictator in its presentation and humor. However, truth is stranger than fiction, and if Seth Rogen can take a break from his stints with superheroes like Invincible and The Boys, there is a hot idea waiting for him to pen the sequel of the film.

The Interview || Credit: Sony Pictures

As has been reported by multiple sources, North Korean operatives have managed to siphon away a whopping $1.5 billion in the form of cryptocurrency, making it the biggest hack of its kind in the history of the world. Now, the release of the first The Interview was rife with all sorts of backlashes from North Korea, but this story has all the makings of a great sequel to the 2015 black comedy film.

What's That Song In Severance Season 2 Episode 5?
Image
"Severance" is the kind of show that begs viewers to pick apart every single scene and detail in search of clues. The "mystery box" approach is a tried and true TV formula, if a difficult one to pull off. But when you get the zeitgeist on your side, as "Severance" has, the audience's hunt for answers creates a unique and compelling viewing experience.

Because of that aspect of the show, many fans may have perked their ears up at the beginning of "Severance" season 2, episode 5, "Trojan's Horse." The episode begins with a new, unnamed character pushing a cart down the severed floor's pristine corridors to the Optics and Design department, where he's given what appears to be dental tools of some kind. Satisfied, he wheels the cart away and to the mysterious, ominous elevator that Irving (John Turturro) and his outie keep seeing. All the while, this nameless employee whistles...

Seth Rogen Didn’t Notice When Alleged Predator James Franco Declared Their Friendship Over
Image
James Franco says he was heartbroken when he realized that his friendship with Seth Rogen had fizzled out, but Rogen was too busy not spending time with guys who start acting schools just to sleep with teenagers to pay attention.

Millennial-and-older comedy fans will recall how, back in the late 2000s, Hollywood began a torrid love affair with the stoner comedy bromance between Franco and Rogen, who had both grown up to be bona-fide A-listers in their own rights a decade after co-starring in the cult-beloved comedy-drama series Freaks and Geeks. Between Pineapple Express, The Interview and This Is the End, the duo of Franco and Rogen put their star powers together to create comedy classics aimed directly at the sizable community of guys who look like Rogen.

However, since Rogen and Franco appeared in the Franco-directed and little-viewed dramedy film Zeroville in 2019, there has, apparently, been radio silence between...

Seth Rogen brushes off James Franco, responds to if Superbad could get made today
Image
For a while there, it seemed like James Franco and Seth Rogen were going to be the standouts of the Judd Apatow School of Comedy. Tokin’ it up as a pair of freaks on Freaks and Geeks, the boys went on to also team on movies like Pineapple Express, This Is the End, The Interview, and more. But when Franco started facing accusations of sexual misconduct in 2018, that was pretty much it for both his career and his friendship with Rogen.

Addressing his rift and split with James Franco — who previously said he left his pal in the dust to defend him and that he has also tried to make amends — Seth Rogen could only say, “Honestly, I absorb so little media that it really wasn’t on my radar.”

One thing Seth Rogen won’t be shying away from is comedy itself. In the same Esquire interview, Rogen was...

Seth Rogen On James Franco Saying In An Interview Their Friendship Had Ended: “It Really Wasn’t On My Radar”
Image
Seth Rogen is weighing in on his friendship with James Franco after his former friend revealed their relationship had ended.

In a new interview, Apple TV+’s The Studio star said he doesn’t pay much attention to social media buzz around him.

“Honestly, I absorb so little media that it really wasn’t on my radar,” Rogen told Esquire about Franco’s comments on their friendship.

According to the publication, Rogen was “not surprised to get that question, and he’s clearly not happy about it.” The magazine also noted his response was “all he wants to say about that.”

Rogen and Franco got their start in the business by starring on the NBC series Freaks and Geeks. They would go on to star in films like Knocked Up, Pineapple Express, This Is The End, The Interview, Sausage Party and The Disaster Artist.

However, things took a turn when,...

Seth Rogen Reacts to James Franco Saying Their Friendship Is Over
Image
James Franco and Seth Rogen's bromance was the stuff of modern Hollywood legend — producing comedy hits like Pineapple Express, The Interview, This Is The End, and more — until it wasn't. The duo's friendship spawned a series of hit movies after it was borne out of the cult classic television series Freaks and Geeks (in which they both starred for its gone-too-soon single season), but all the good years weren't enough to keep their friendship alive after a series of allegations regarding Franco's inappropriate sexual relationships with his students came to light.

And now, in a new interview with Esquire to promote Rogen's new AppleTV+ comedy series, The Studio, the multi-hyphenate is sharing his thoughts on the friendship breakup heard 'round the world. And it's not too surprising — at least to this particular writer — that Rogen is staying decidedly mum on the subject.

Ben Stiller to Lead HBO Series ‘The Band’ from ‘Search Party’ Co-Creators
Image
It’s taken Ben Stiller 35 years to return in a lead role for TV, but the multihyphenate filmmaker is officially back on the small screen.

Stiller, who infamously left “Saturday Night Live” after only a few episodes to create his own 1990 sketch series “The Ben Stiller Show,” is set to lead HBO series “The Band,” which is currently in development at the network, an individual with knowledge told IndieWire. This will be Stiller’s first lead role in a narrative scripted series, though he previously had cameos in “Arrested Development” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Of course, Stiller has more recently been a TV staple behind the scenes: the writer/director/producer is the executive producer and director of “Severance.” He also helmed true crime series “Escape from Dannemora.”

“The Band” is the latest project produced by Stiller’s Red Hour Films. The series is co-created by “Search Party” filmmakers Sarah Violet Bliss...

‘Whiskey On The Rocks’ Hulu Review: A Consistently Comedic Political Satire With Great Performances
Image
A certain section of the audience loves to claim that the world is becoming too woke, yet the decline in the number of political satires and the growing toothlessness of this subgenre of comedy say otherwise. Charles Chaplin did The Great Dictator in 1940, literally one year after World War 2 began. Stanley Kubrick made Dr. Strangelove in 1964 to comment on the Cold War, which officially ended in 1991. Sacha Baron Cohen did The Dictator and Borat to berate America for its relentless war on Iraq, and so did Abhishek Sharma with Tere Bin Laden. Then there was Quentin Tarantino, who did Inglourious Basterds, where he imagined Hitler being killed at a movie theater in Paris. Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen did something similar in The Interview, except the subject of the explosive death was Kim Jong Un instead of Hitler. Soon after that, Armando Iannucci released The Death of Stalin, which is pretty self-explanatory,...

Severance Season 2: Bombshell Feud Rumors Between Mark Friedman and Dan Erickson Explained
Image
It has been only one season and Severance has already received worldwide fame and critical acclaim for being one of the best shows of all time. However, every great story has some behind-the-scenes friction.

It was alleged that series creator Dan Erickson and executive-producer/writer Mark Friedman had some feuds while working on season one of the show. Notable director-actor Ben Stiller, however, cleared the air.

There is some friction between Mark Friedman and Dan Erickson

There have been multiple reports of jokes of a producer trying to take the series in a different direction than what the creator originally intended. Although it might not be the case in Severance, there was some high-tension friction between Friedman and Erickson.

Ben Stiller remembers facing backlash at the height of his stardom
Image
We can all get sick of our favorite actors, especially when they’re victims of overexposure. Ben Still had been on the scene since the 1980s but really came into his own in the 1990s (shoutouts to The Ben Stiller Show and Heavyweights!). After the success of There’s Something About Mary in 1998, the 2000s didn’t have a single year without multiple Ben Stiller movies. There was Meet the Parents and Zoolander and Duplex and Dodgeball and on and on. And after a while, it just got old for some. Maybe he could dodge a wrench, but Stiller couldn’t dodge the backlash.

Appearing on The New York Times’ The Interview podcast (via IndieWire), Ben Stiller remembered “opening up the L.A. Times and there was this writer who wrote a letter: ‘Dear God, stop putting Ben Stiller in comedies,’ I was just like, I don’t know, I’m here,...

Ben Stiller Recalls Seeing Open Letter Urging Hollywood to “Stop Putting” Him in Comedies
Image
Ben Stiller still struggles to wrap his head around why he was such a beloved comedy movie star in the late 1990s and 2000s.

The actor-producer-director, who reached a new level of success thanks to his comedic roles in There’s Something About Mary, Meet the Parents, Tropic Thunder and Zoolander, among others, recently looked back on that time in his career during a recent conversation on The New York Times‘ podcast The Interview. However, he also recalled not everyone being his biggest fan.

“I remember opening up the L.A. Times, and there was this writer who wrote a letter: ‘Dear God, stop putting Ben Stiller in comedies,'” he recounted. “I was just like, I don’t know, I’m here, I love doing what I do.”

Overall, Stiller is thankful he was able to be a part of that chapter in movie history, adding, “It’s only in retrospect that I can go,...

‘The New York Times’ Gets Ben Stiller to Confess That He Borrowed His ‘Dodgeball’ Villain From a Disney Movie
Image
In the early 2000s, Ben Stiller made a number of movies in which he played an awkward leading man who may or may not have to meet somebody’s parents. But he was just as good, if not better, at playing over-the-top comedic villains, as evidenced by his work as White Goodman in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.

Disney fans quickly noticed that Goodman, the head of Globo Gym, was distinctly similar to another fitness-obsessed antagonist that Stiller once played: Tony Perkis Jr. from the 1995 Judd Apatow-scripted family comedy Heavyweights.

You can tell it was made in 1995, because it’s about a grown man literally torturing children to get them to lose weight.

As we’ve mentioned before, this observation has even inspired some fans to theorize that the two characters are one and the same, which would mean that Dodgeball takes place after Perkis has relocated, changed his...

Ben Stiller Recalls a Plea to Stop Casting Him in Comedies: ‘I Don’t Know What the Zeitgeist Was’
Image
Ben Stiller is still thinking about an opinion piece from more than 20 years ago.

The “Severance” director said during The New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast that after starring in 1996’s “The Cable Guy,” 1999’s “There’s Something About Mary,” and 2000’s “Meet the Parents,” the Los Angeles Times published a plea to stop casting Stiller in comedies.

“I remember opening up the L.A. Times and there was this writer who wrote a letter: ‘Dear God, stop putting Ben Stiller in comedies,’” Stiller said. “I was just like, I don’t know, I’m here, I love doing what I do. But it’s only in retrospect that I can go, ‘Wow, there was a thing happening that I was fortunate to be a part of.’ But I don’t know what the zeitgeist was.”

He continued, “You can look at 2000s comedies, and they were a specific kind of thing,...

Ben Stiller Once Saw an Article Urging Hollywood to ‘Stop Putting Ben Stiller in Comedies,’ Left ‘SNL’ After Four Episodes Because ‘I Got Too Nervous’
Image
Ben Stiller was the latest guest on The New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast and admitted that he still doesn’t understand why he became such a popular comedy movie star in the late 1990s and 2000s. His self-directed work in 1996’s “The Cable Guy” was followed by the one-two punch of 1999’s “There’s Something About Mary” and 2000’s “Meet the Parents,” both of which grossed more than $330 million at the worldwide box office and turned Stiller into a blockbuster actor.

“I remember opening up the L.A. Times and there was this writer who wrote a letter: ‘Dear God, stop putting Ben Stiller in comedies,'” Stiller said about this period of his career. “I was just like, I don’t know, I’m here, I love doing what I do. How Does the Real 2025 Compare to the One in ‘Hot Tub Time Machine 2’?
Image
There have been a number of different kinds of movie time machines — from phone booths, to ancient Japanese scepters, to a cocaine trafficker’s wacky sports car. But it wasn’t until 2010 that a character broke the time barrier using a magical jacuzzi.

Hot Tub Time Machine was a goofy, but mostly enjoyable comedy that found John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke traveling back in time to the 1980s. At least it nailed the complex nature of meddling with the timeline in a way that few other time-travel films do.

Because it was a modest success, Hot Tub Time Machine spawned a sequel. And it’s not great. In fact, it’s quite bad. Even John Cusack didn’t want to return for Hot Tub Time Machine 2, and that guy once made a movie in which cell phone signals turn people into telepathic zombies.

But Hot Tub Time Machine 2...

The 2009 Sci-Fi Box Office Hit That Was Banned In North Korea
Image
While American movies have seen decades of success worldwide, there is something about Hollywood that certain countries just don't seem to like. To be more specific, there's something about Hollywood that China doesn't like. The Chinese Communist Party has a frankly embarrassing record when it comes to outlawing perfectly innocuous, and even delightfully charming classics. Just look at the time China banned "Back to the Future" for the wild reason that time travel movies in general "disrespect history." It also took until 2006's "Casino Royale" for James Bond to be unbanned in China, which is pretty crazy considering the character had ascended to legendary pop culture status not long after 1962's "Dr. No" kicked off cinema's most enduring franchise.

Banning art of any kind is pretty dodgy business if you ask me, but China isn't the only offender on that front. If you want to talk about treating the populace...

The Only M*A*S*H Episode That Features The Full Cast Of The Series
Image
The long-running classic sitcom "M*A*S*H" went through quite a few changes throughout its 11 seasons, both in front of the camera and behind it. Even series creator Larry Gelbart left after the fourth season because the show had become all-consuming in his life due to its immense popularity. In fact, there were so many cast change-ups over the years that there is only one episode (albeit a two-parter) that features every single starring cast member. And all in all, only one character, head surgeon Captain Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce (Alan Alda), appears in every episode. It makes sense that faces would change in a wartime situation, especially when the real-life Korean War lasted for only three years and "M*A*S*H" went on for eleven.

Over the years, the show lost not only Gelbart but stars Wayne Rogers, McLean Stevenson, Larry Linville, and Gary Burghoff, who played Hawkeye's best friend "Trapper" John McIntyre,...

Seth Rogen in Ninja Turtles: Teenage Years (2023)
The Studio | Trailer released for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg series
Seth Rogen in Ninja Turtles: Teenage Years (2023)
Regular collaborators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have created Apple TV+ comedy series The Studio. Here’s the trailer.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg burst onto the Hollywood scene in 2007 when they co-wrote smash hit comedy Superbad. It was a big year for Rogen, who also starred opposite Katherine Heigl in Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up. Since then, they have written stoner comedy Pineapple Express and made the leap to big budget superhero films with The Green Hornet. They made their directorial debut in 2013 with This Is The End, following it up with 2014’s The Interview.

The pair have now created ten part Apple TV+ comedy The Studio.

The cast also includes Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, Bryan Cranston, Keyla Monterroso Mejia and Dewayne Perkins.

Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck, who previously wrote for Armando Iannucci’s Veep and created White House Plumbers, are showrunners and writers,...
