NBC has revived its previously cancelled fantasy drama project "Emerald City".
David Schulner ("Dracula," "Ironside") is attached to write, executive produce and serve as show runner on the ten-episode straight to series drama which was originally picked up straight to series in January 2014.
That previous version had Josh Friedman ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles") attached to pen the script alongside Matt Arnold. The network opted not to move forward with the project after NBC and producers could not agree on a shared vision for the show.
The new take sees a twenty-year-old Dorothy Gale and her K9 police dog transported to the fabled Land of Oz, a place where wicked witches don’t stay dead for long and a young girl becomes a headstrong warrior who holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands.

That’s right, kids, the network that’s bringing you Arrow and may be bringing you Flash in series form – Flash will definitely be appearing on Arrow this season; the “may be” is whether a spinoff series will be picked up – is working on another series from the DC galaxy: Hourman.
According to THR, this version of Hourman has our hero as a “brilliant-yet-troubled pharmaceutical analyst” who has been plagued by visions since his childhood, and who comes to learn that those visions are actually glimpses of the future – one hour into the future. “Determined to win back his ex-wife and son, he heroically prevents these tragedies from unfolding, finding both purpose and redemption along the way.”
The DC Database describes Hourman thus:
Hourman is the legacy of a masked vigilante who uses a drug named Miraclo to give him incredible super-powers for exactly one hour. Rex Tyler is the original version,...

The CW is working on a new superhero series based on the DC Comics character Hourman. The show will chronicle a pharmaceutical analyst's transition into a superhero after he realizes that he can see tragedies an hour before they happen.
The Hourman pilot will be written by Michael Caleo, whose previous credits include The Sopranos and Ironside, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Initially created in 1940 by Ken Fitch and Bernard Bailey, Hourman is the moniker adopted by Rex Tyler, a scientist who discovers that a new drug, Miraclo, gives him these superpowers.

The success of The CW's DC superhero series Arrow is testing the market with a planned series based on The Flash, but a lesser-known heroic property is also in development. DC's Hourman, originally introduced in 1940, may be headed to the small screen for his own live-action series. The title character, aka Rex Tyler, is a brilliant-yet-troubled pharmaceutical analyst who experiences visions of events that occur one hour in the future. Lin Pictures' Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz will executive produce alongside Michael Caleo (Ironside), who will also pen the script. Hit the jump for more. The CW has decided the next DC Comics superhero they want to develop as a drama for the network. No, it's not Batman or Wonder Woman or even the Green Lantern. Instead, The CW is working on an "Hourman" TV show, THR reports.
You might be wondering, "Wait, who is Hourman?" The character first appeared in 1940's "Adventure Comics" #48. The original incarnation, a scientist named Rex Tyler, is a brilliant pharmaceutical research analyst who discovered a miracle vitamin that gave him superhuman strength for an hour. When his son took over the role, the idea of being able to see tragic events an hour into the future was introduced. He sets out to stop the tragic events from happening, in an effort to reunite with his ex-wife and son.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that The CW is currently developing a new tv series based on another character from the DC universe, setting their sights on Rex Tyler (aka ‘Hourman’) as their next superhero series. According to THR, the series will tell the story of the “brilliant-yet-troubled pharmaceutical analyst who discovers that the visions that have plagued him since childhood are actually glimpses of tragic events occurring one hour in the future.”
While not as mainstream as Green Arrow or The Flash, the “Hourman” character is one of the oldest in DC Comics’ vast roster of superheroes. Rex Tyler was first introduced in the pages of Adventure Comics #48 in 1940 where he developed a highly-addictive drug called Miraclo that gave him super abilities and strength which lasted approximately 60 minutes.

It has "Arrow," it will soon have "The Flash," and it's still trying to develop a Wonder Woman series with "Amazon". Now, The CW network is looking into a series adaptation of yet another DC Comics hero title - "Hourman".
The series version, which sounds decidedly different to the comic, follows a brilliant-yet-troubled pharmaceutical analyst who learns the visions that have plagued him since childhood are actually glimpses of tragic events occurring one hour in the future.
Determined to win back his ex-wife and son, he heroically prevents these tragedies from unfolding, finding redemption along the way.
Michael Caleo ("Ironside," "The Sopranos") will pen the script and executive produce alongside Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz. If it goes forward it will be one of potentially four new DC comics properties coming to TV next season, alongside 'Flash,' NBC's Hellblazer adaptation "Constantine" and Fox's Batman prequel "Gotham".

October has always been a make-or-break month for freshman series; as they struggle to build audiences against already-established programs, many falter and eventually fall under the dreaded network cancellation axe. Within the next few days, we’ll likely be seeing a few more cancellations on major networks including ABC, NBC, Fox and CBS. Though the first show to perish this season was ABC’s ill-conceived lottery drama Lucky 7, NBC just one-upped its rival network by killing two freshman flops with one stone: Ironside and Welcome to the Family.
The former, a cop procedural starring Blair Underwood, was a remake of a hugely successful NBC show that aired during the ’60s and ’70s. Centering on a dedicated cop confined to a wheelchair, the new Ironside drew criticism for its heavy tone and monotonous pace. While the original Ironside ran for 199 episodes and a TV movie, NBC’s modern-day take on the...

The original Ironside lasted for eight seasons on NBC but the remake only lasted three episodes. The peacock network has cancelled the Blair Underwood drama, effective immediately. It's unclear what will become of the low-rated show's unaired episodes.
For the immediate future, NBC will fill the Wednesdays at 10pm timeslot with new editions of Dateline and then, holiday specials.
On January 8th, Chicago Pd will premiere. It's the previously mentioned spin-off of Chicago Fire which currently airs on Tuesdays at 10pm.
Ironside follows a smart and no-nonsense NYPD detective (Blair Underwood) who's been confined to a wheelchair for the past two years. The rest of the police drama's cast includes Pablo Schreiber, Spencer Grammer, Neal Bledsoe, Kenneth Choi, and Brent Sexton.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that the series has been cancelled?...

Remakes of old TV shows typically don't generate big ratings and get cancelled. Will NBC's Ironside be a different story or will it be dropped after one season like so many others. We'll have to watch the ratings and wait and see.

NBC has announced the cancelation of two new shows, the return of a long-time favorite and the premiere of a spinoff.

New Parks and Recreation episodes, meanwhile, will run from 8-9 p.m. on Thursdays, along with other holiday-themed specials.
On Thursday, January 2, Community Season 5 will kick off with back-to-back installments.

Producers and studio executives are warming to the idea of putting more actors with disabilities onscreen, according to casting directors and show creators. But disabled performers should be prepared to work hard to distinguish themselves. “You can’t expect to be hired just because you’re in a wheelchair,” said Angela Rockwood, a quadriplegic actor who co-created and stars in the unscripted series “Push Girls,” which airs on Sundance Channel. “If you want to be a serious actor, you’ve got to go out and take the acting classes; you’ve got to bring the juices so that when the roles come in you’re ready.” Even if a disabled performer is ready for her big role, that break won’t always come. Hollywood has a long history of casting able-bodied performers in disabled roles. A recent example advocates point to is NBC’s reboot of “Ironside,” which features Blair Underwood...

In a landscape filled with police procedurals, Ironside looks to break away from the herd with the handsome and multi-talented Blair Underwood (L.A. Law). This new series faces stiff competition from within its own network, as NBC pushes to reinvent itself with critically acclaimed shows like Hannibal and The Blacklist.
