This has come with some downsides, as it’s becoming increasingly more difficult for filmmakers to create ideas in this subgenre that genuinely feel fresh and unique. Jessica Alba isn’t taking any prisoners this summer when her new action film, Trigger Warning, brings a violent revenge tale to Netflix on June 21, 2024. Today, Netflix shared a gallery of first-look images from the upcoming film, which features Alba as a Special Forces commando who finds herself pulled into a violent gang war when her father suddenly dies. The Trigger Warning images show Alba in action and some behind-the-scenes antics of the film’s production.

Mouly Surya (The City is a Battlefield) directs Trigger Warning from a script by John Brancato, Josh Olson, and Hailey Gross. Mark Webber, Tone Bell, Jake Weary, Gabriel Basso and Anthony Michael Hall star alongside Alba as primary cast members, with Kaiwi Lyman and Hari Dhillon co-starring.

I didn’t know much about the Mike Cheslik directed film prior to seeing it. I had heard the name and initially believed it was a nature documentary. I was very wrong. After reading the description I thought it might be a horror-comedy in the vein of 2015’s Zombeavers. Wrong again. It’s a genre-defying mishmash comprised of absurdist slapstick humor, and I absolutely loved it.

Nine years ago, Cortney Palm and Hutch Dano starred in Zombeavers, a horror comedy that got a good amount of attention because – as the title gives away – it happened to be about zombie beavers. Director Benni Diez, every producer, and each department head go the extra mile to avoid such a fate for their 80s throwback creature feature. That’s what’s so endearing about a 2015 “When Insects Attack” flick with gigantic ideas and the right approach, rooted in buzzworthy practical effects. The lovable little carnivorous creatures from director Stephen Herek's 1986 horror-comedy Critters have been getting a lot of love recently and I for one am not complaining. First, there is Shudder's Critters: A New Binge series coming next month, which we all know about by this point in time.

Though the Critters films have never been popular with the critics, the franchise’s four-movie run from 1986 to 1992 apparently left enough of an impression on horror fans for the series to be resurrected decades later in the form of an upcoming TV show titled Critters: A New Binge.

With a title so inescapably reminiscent of the 1990 film Gremlins 2: The New Batch, it’s almost as though Critters is embracing its reputation as a Gremlins rip-off franchise, though going by the show’s first trailer, A New Binge is leaning further into campy comedy than the Critters’ mogwai cousins ever did. Complete with goofy, gory death scenes, over-the-top acting and low-budget FX, the 1-minute preview should provide all the footage you need to decide whether or not the series is for you.

The classic Critters horror film franchise is returning in the form of a TV series that’s set for streaming service Shudder.

Critters may be but one of several campy horror franchises from the 1980s to – akin to the soon-to-be-animated Gremlins – feature diminutive multiplying mini-monsters, but the imagery of its eponymous alien invaders – resembling demonic bipedal versions of Star Trek Tribbles with shark teeth and T-Rex arms – make them especially memorable, even if the poster image of the toilet monster from Ghoulies was more memorable in its ability to make tense experiences out of nature’s call for a generation. Regardless, Critters is getting a long-overdue return.

What can we expect from Death House?

Death House is one hell of a ride. From start to finish the audience will be wondering what is going on and how the protagonists are going to survive. It’s so hard to tell nowadays what kind of film you are going to get by just looking at the solitary picture and the synopsis. I seldom ever rely on the number of stars that it has, because someone else’s trash just might be my treasure. Back in the video store days, there were absolutely no guarantees even by looking at the videocassette box, but I guess that I just had a false sense of security that I could make a more informed choice. I’m slowly letting go, and just going with straight up intuition.

Image Entertainment has picked up the North American rights for  Adam Egypt Mortimer's supernatural slasher flick Some Kind of Hate. The flick had its world premiere at the Stanley Film Festival this past weekend. Some Kind of Hate stars Ronen Rubenstein (It Felt Like Love), Sierra McCormick (Disney's "Ant Farm"), Grace Phipps (Fright Night, Disney's Teen Beach Movie), Spencer Breslin (The Happening, The Kid), Lexi Atkins (The Boy Next Door, Zombeavers), Noah Segan (Looper), and Michael Polish (The Astronaut Farmer, Twin Falls Idaho).Some Kind of Hate tells the story of a troubled teen who's subjected to severe bullying. He accidentally conjures Moira Karp, a teenage girl pushed to commit suicide by bullies years ago. Moira is now a vengeful and unstoppable force on a mission of gruesome retribution. But...

"Los Angeles, May 4, 2015 – Image Entertainment, an Rlje Entertainment (Nasdaq: Rlje) brand, has acquired all North American rights to the Caliber Media-produced horror film, Some Kind Of Hate. The buzz-worthy film made its world debut at the Stanley Film Festival on May 2. To prematurely write off Zombeavers would be an easy task based on the numerous trailers featuring zombified beaver puppets who growl angrily at the camera, as the footage suggests a watch that takes B-Movie stupidity to realms yet unexplored. Who needs a bunch of undead beavers thwapping their tails against the ground while they’re trying to gnaw through a group of drunken fratheads and their sorority babes? TVLine reports that Glenn Fleshler (True Detective) will play Cordell Doemling, yet another familiar name to fans of Thomas Harris’ books and the Hannibal Lecter movies. For those unfamiliar, Cordell Doemling is the verbally abused medical aid to the wealthy, wicked, and mutilated Mason Verger, who will now be played on the TV series by Joe Anderson in place of Michael Pitt.
