The recipe is not working

Franck Gastambide applies the same recipe as his three previous films. But with this film, the result is less successful. Perhaps because certain ingredients are missing: the equivalent of Medi Sadoun's character in Les Kaïra (2012) or Malik Bentalha's in Pattaya (2016) or Taxi 5. Here, he is replaced by the character played by Ramzy Bedia, already present in the two aforementioned films. But it doesn't work, because he's not a source of humor.

This is also due to the subject matter, the drug cartels in Colombia. It's a less interesting subject, as it's been dealt with many times before, and much more brilliantly. A poor choice, then. And that's despite some nice ingredients: Mike Tyson as a trainer or the romantic attribute (Essined Aponte).

Otherwise, Franck Gastambide's talents are still there: a character with logorrheic dialogue, a mix of situational comedy and action sequences that are meant to be, and are, breathtaking, and the dwarf (Anouar Toubali) who brings his variations, much less well integrated here than in Les Kaira or Pattaya. In short, the recipe doesn't work here.

Poor...

"Medellín" sets out to be a fun action-comedy but stumbles under the weight of a weak plot and lackluster humor. The film follows a group of characters navigating the chaotic streets of Medellín, Colombia, where action-packed sequences and comedic moments are meant to intersect. While the film has moments of charm, it never fully captures the tone or energy it strives for.

The action scenes, though frequent, lack the excitement or cleverness seen in better films of the genre. Instead of thrilling the audience, they feel repetitive and fail to bring anything fresh to the table. The comedy, meanwhile, is often forced, relying too heavily on slapstick humor and tired stereotypes that fail to land. The cast, while capable, doesn't quite mesh together as well as it should. The performances feel disjointed, with some characters coming across as one-dimensional, leaving little room for meaningful connections or development. "Medellín's" attempt to blend high-octane action with comedy ultimately misses the mark. While the setting offers potential for a unique atmosphere, the film's predictable plot and lack of strong comedic timing make it an underwhelming experience.

Not good

Where to begin ? PATTAYA was not a masterpiece in any way but was funny enough to spend a good time with friends, some beer and potato chips. We can feel that MEDELLIN tries hard to exploit the same vein for Amazon, but it's just a mindless awkward embarrassment. All sounds fake and shallow : bad script, bad dialogues and (very) bad direction. Obviously, Gastambide wanted to hide this with hyper-speed "action" scenes but most of them fall flat, as the jokes. Ramzy plays one of his worst characters, unlikable and falling off the tracks in the action scenes, Gastambide seems to play a bad impersonation of Eric Judor (the usual partner of Ramzy), and Anouar Toubali (very nice personality but not yet a real actor) seems totally undirected and only used as a gizmo. Stupid romance, poor character played by Mike Tyson, full of clichés and one of the worst ending I ever saw in a comedy. Two stars for the dog, the best part of the movie.

Doesn't even deserve 1 star

Absurd movie. Only people as obtuse as the Pablo wannabe would enjoy it.

This boasts an absurd premise and Spanish speaking actors who can't speak Spanish without an American accent, let alone a Colombian accent. I'm looking at you Diablo, but this applies to every other actor who wasn't an extra.

Geographically inaccurate. The only near by town with a large body of water is a lake. Please explain how you got a shark there.

While we're at it: a hotel in the Comuna 13? Really???

The car under the semi scene, must have been the tallest semi, prime for rolling over in the tight hairpin turns of the roads between the mayor cities of Colombia, paired with lowest car in the history of the country: prime for getting stuck in potholes or at the foot of the myriad of hills within the city.

Need I go on? I always finish a movie, but my time is far too valuable for this one. I just couldn't.

DISAPPOINTING

How I am going to give a 600 letter review here is beyond my imagination.

I wish Amazon Studios would list on their description of a film from what country the movie was made. This film was so disappointing for me, rude and crude language through out with some of the worst characters I have ever seen in a movie. As a viewer I didn't feel any emotion for any of the characters.

I have worked in the movie industry for over 40 years and have seen the down grading of movies since sound was invented. A classic movie is something special to watch these days with actors who were trained in their profession. Not a bunch of yahoo's acting like idiots like in this movie.

Wow I made over 600.

It's not just bad. It sucks!

The movie is really bad.

There are several scenes that don't make sense, and we realize that the characters are making mistakes on purpose just to try to be funny.

The characters stand in the middle of a hail of gunfire and no one hits them. The head of the gang manages to be violent with everyone, except the protagonists. It looks silly in front of the protagonists, who suddenly manage to learn to fight, handle weapons, and even fly helicopters.

And to complete, in the end, after the film has tried to make fun the whole film, they put an unnecessary tragedy just to try to make drama. They reserved only about 10 minutes of the film to conclude the whole story and everything was rushed and without rhythm. Not to mention the police character, who was very poorly used in the story.

I could spend hours talking about this movie.

Bad, bad, bad and bad. By the way, bad!

The Cartel's don't stand a chance

I gave this film a good, worth seeing rating of 7due to its originality with a mix of action and comedy like you've never seen before. Medellín hits the funny bone and the heart at the same time without feeling contrived. The actors are mostly new and refreshing, with Frank Gastambide, the creator, actor director doing a yoeman's job keeping the crazyness coherent and fast paced. The other two main characters played by Ramzy Bedia and Anuair Toubali form a nice odd trio of reluctant heros with Gastambide. Casting Mike Tyson as the somewhat secretive CIA type who aides their mission to rescue Bedia's character's younger brother- a Pablo Escobar, look alike, internet wannabe, played hilariously by Brahim Bouhlel. Totally full of funny moments, and a few good spoofs to keep your interest going...

Same like Taxi movies (French)

I don't understand the bad critics. I will keep it simple: if you liked the Taxi movies (French) you will definitely like this movie as well. If you do, I highly recommend you to go watch this movie. You won't be disappointed.

It has some nice car chasing action, the French humor is spot on and decent acting. I think some people expected a realistic narcos movie, but it's not meant to be that way. It is an action comedy and it does the job very well. The low ratings are, in my opinion, no service as to what you actually get out of this movie. Is it a masterpiece? No it's not. But then again, it doesn't aim it to be.

So awful I had to throw my TV

This was so boring. Overplayed topic of drugs in Colombia. Very inaccurate, Medellin is not a short drive away from the beach lol, it's very locked in-land up in the Andes.

Bringing Mike Tyson and Tuco Salamanca as the fail-safe of the movie was more Fail than anything, the second plays a Colombian druglord and can barely speak spanish correctly.

Also, the chase scenes were like okay but felt shorthanded. Looked like they were about to save the movie but ended disappointing. Acting was also terrible, characters were poorly developed and seemed too unrealistic.

Overplayed, overexcited, too bad to watch.

Useless movie

Bad script bad intentions...I mean did they want to make a comedy? An action movie? Both? Non of that...it's a salad of already seen movies, but in the wrong contest...it could have been a light comedy if they didn't went too serious...the end of the movie is more disappointing...completely out of contest...it's like they didn't know how to come out of a surreal story that went too much down. Comedy is not easy, action is not easy...to do both you really need to know your s..t.

Even the color grade is out of contest.

They've missed the opportunity of a comedy-action with a moral for young people.

very funny, very enjoyable, all tongue in cheek great stuff

I enjoyed it from the very start. Goofy characters which are supposed to be goofy. Its cast and acted perfectly.....everyone delivers their lines with a perfect cross between candor and goofiness. Even mike tyson sounds like he took elocution lessons and listened carefully to the directer about his dialogue delivery. Ciryl gane cameo very nice touch.

Even when i thought i knew what was coming, wat came was funnier.

This film was a real pleasure......... not at one point was i annoyed by the plot or script.

I love the way the film knows wat it was and didnt mess around trying to be something it isnt.

Im someone who thinks fast and furious is absolute sh#te and im a real movie lover and this film is great.

Loads of Fun and Oiginal

An Intenational gem, extremely fun and original, Anyone who wrote a bad review have definitely not seen the movie or watched the English dubbed version or were expecting a serious dramatic movie. The Action is exciting the comedy is subtle, Mike Tysons cameo is a plus. The Casting in general is fantastic except for the director casting himself in the lead role. He is the worst casting for that role. The storyline is not monotonous, and the twists are original and not predictable. The ending is a bit melodramatic and kind of disappointing. It is a crazy movie not logical sometimes but it is pure fun.
