Arriving at a friends' apartment, a group of guys decide to get together with their dinner plans turning into a special series of games that take up their night, but as the festivities continue it dawns on the men that the women have ulterior motives for everything and must stop it from transpiring.
Overall, this was a somewhat enjoyable effort for the most part. Among the better features here is the solid and likable enough setup to get the victims together under this particular premise. After getting everyone lured together with the pretense of dinner and then gradually descending into the bizarre board game the deeper into the night it goes, this one comes off well enough that the chaotic nature of the board game becomes increasingly more compelling. The tasks being forced to complete and the consequences for failing them make for some enjoyable moments here involving the dark figure constantly lurking in the background of everything and the confusing rules that are in play for the fun finale, which all make the film quite entertaining at times. There are some issues here that hold this one down. One of the main drawbacks of this one is a rather weak storyline that makes it feel more appropriate for a short film or an anthology tale than anything else. This one takes so long to get going with the friends hanging out having dinner and conversations about their past together that it tends to feel like padding to bump out the running time while we're getting to know the characters. Some of these interactions are fine at this stage of the film but it just draw the film out for quite a while without featuring any kind of genre action normally expected here with so much time spent on the various bits learned about each other just stall out the pacing to this one without much in the way of storyline helping this along. That also means the majority of the film relies on the confines of the bizarre game that the group plays which grows somewhat darker the more the night goes on but which also makes no sense. Despite the candle-lit setting and bizarre series of tasks and challenges that are to be accomplished over the course of this one, the lack of rules and purpose behind everything makes for a game where it has very few stakes. Since the girls are kept to a secretive air about why the boys are there and what they're doing, the idea of forcing them to play everything out and not allowing any clues to their real intent is kept hidden for so long any interest is long gone by the time it comes to the more intriguing elements even with no knowledge of what's going on. Featuring no real gore or scares present either, there are some big issues to be had here.
Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language and Violence.

Very mediocre horror film with bad acting. I couldn't even get through a third of the film. I was really dissappointed as I am a big horror film fan. The game prop was cool in the film but the writing and acting were lacking. The movie drags on and can be slow at times, and it very hard to get through. I didn't have high expectations for a budget film but this one is unwatchable.
The board game concept reminded me a lot off ouija boards. The characters in the film play a boardgame at a dinner party and it summons a evil force. And the evil entity forces the characters to play the board game for their survival. The vibe of the film reminded me a bit of 90s horror films.

I bet tbe farm that any rating over 2 is by friends and family of people involved.
If there was a director they gave free reign to the worst wannabe actors on the planet.
Nobody behaves like these people. The women acted like insipid trollops. Bad overacting. They did their impression of brainless groupies.
The men were all dumb geeks. Every character was a cartoon of actual human beings.
I was ready to turn it off after 15 minutes. The dialog was unbearably stupid.
I'm not sure what the storyline was because none of this dumpster fire made any sense.
Zero suspense, zero character buildup, empty, shallow people being ridiculous.
Enjoy.

I know I know my rating is what it is, but somehow this movie really hit all the right notes for me. Something about the low budget, our your heart our into this passion project film really struck a chord with me. I read up a lot about it after seeing it on Mometu for the first time when it was released and I ran to letterboxd to give it some love and now here I am giving it some love here too. Is it perfect, no, does it still deserve 10 yessss! This little indie B horror movie is so fun and creepy and the atmosphere is TOP NOTCH! The characters are so fun and have their own quirks, and that 90s nostalgia hits hard! I really enjoyed Stupid Games! Let's win some stupid prizes!

Wow, this movie is so bad. Not so bad it's good just, bad. It is worse than even one of those youtube short films, but at least those are over in ten minutes.
Completely dreadful. The "plot" is like the worst episode of Buffy+Jumanji, but only if it had been hit on the head with a hammer.
Looks like it was shot on somebody's phone, in an AirBnB. The monster, such as it is, is a person in a spirit Halloween costume. The acting is some of the worst of any movie.
This is a skip. I have to keep tying for the review to be able to be posted, but I'm trying to tell you not to watch it. This is a warning!!

What starts as a casual evening soon turns into an unpredictable night of wine, conversation, and a game of Quest for Truth Minutia.
The pacing of the film is a bit sluggish at first. It takes almost an hour to get to the good stuff, while many horror films usually hit their stride by the 30-minute mark. The build-up feels overly drawn out, leaving you wanting more action after the long wait.
In comparison to most horror flicks that tend to dive into the thrills earlier, this one feels more like a drawn-out build, leaving you a bit impatient for the suspense to finally kick in.
All in all Stupid Games is fun and hits creepy moments just right in the third act. Worth a watch!

"Stupid Games" is the kind of horror film that doesn't quite live up to its promise, but still manages to entertain in an oddly guilty-pleasure kind of way. Directed by Nicolas Wendl and Dani Abraham, this 2024 release aims to blend psychological horror with 90s supernatural boardgame horror.
There are some genuinely clever moments where the tension builds, and you feel that sense of dread that any good horror film should evoke. The atmosphere is well-crafted, with a great soundtrack and some striking visuals that do a lot to set the mood.
While the film doesn't reinvent the wheel by any means, Stupid Games still offers enough thrills and even laughs to keep viewers entertained, especially if they're fans of indie horror films where you can feel the filmmakers heartbeat in it.

This is a sleek and tense indie horror that leans heavily on atmosphere, minimalism, and the creeping sense of dread that bubbles up from a night of innocent fun turning into something far more sinister. Directed by Nicolas Wendl and Dani Abraham, and written by Tanner Adams, the film follows Celeste, who hosts a dinner party for her one-night stand, Jaxon, and his friends. What starts as a typical game night soon spirals into a nightmarish ordeal after they start playing a seemingly innocuous board game that has dangerous consequences.
The standout strength of the film is how it plays with expectations. You could easily predict where a lot of the scenes are headed, but there's a subtle craftsmanship in the pacing and visual storytelling choices that keep you hooked. The board game itself becomes more of a metaphorical catalyst than a true plot device.
The pacing might be a turn-off for some, especially those looking for the more overtly shocking moments typical of the genre. It relies heavily on a slow burn that doesn't always land with the intensity you might hope for.
Still, for what it is-a small-scale horror film that thrives on psychological tension and limited resources-Stupid Games delivers. It's not flawless, but it's a quietly unsettling piece of genre cinema that's definitely worth a look.

If board games, girls vs boys, endless bottles of wine and never ending moving board pieces excite you then this movie has what you're looking for. I had no clue what to expect when I clicked play on this no name actors no name directors movie but I was somehow surprised by how the whole film played out. It took a while to get going and there was copious amounts of dialogue in the firts 30mins but once the board game came out I knew things would get interesting. It reminded me a lot of those 90s survival movies. It had a solid balance of humor, horror and tension. Lots of fun if you just want to shoot it with a truly indie horror movie made on the most shoestring or shoestring of budgets. Also HELLOO STANLEY!

I feel like I'm being generous with my rating here, I probably should have gone lower but I cant help but have a soft spot for indie horror films that make an artistic effort to embody the vibes of the period they want to pay homage to. "Stupid Games" is a vert enjoyable concept with some unexpected reveals and twists that manage to keep parts of the second act and the third act feeling fresh and with a good pace. Where the film struggles is in the first act where it takes wayyy to long to get going. I can see why they did what they did, but as an audience member it draaaged on, once the board game comes out, I'm all in tho, and that candlelit atmosphere is GIVING! All for a good 90s throwback with an amazingly eerie score and some simple yet compelling practical effects that really bring home the homage to the genre and the period it is paying homage to. Def recommend a night of Stupid Games!

Tubi will never cease to surprise me with the vast array of movies they have to offer. This indie horror peaked my curiosity upon seeing the poster...The pacing felt a bit too stretched out, leaving you itching for something more exciting to happen after the lengthy build-up, but once the game made its long awaited appearance things got more interesting. Also WHO has that many candles in a single apartment? WOW.
Unlike your typical horror flicks that start off with a bang, this one takes its time to ease you in, leaving you bouncing in your seat, thinking, "Come on, something spooky has to happen soon." and then it sorta does, and while the scares are scarce, the horror atmosphere is top notch!
By the end of "Stupid Games" redeems itself and it's definitely a fun watch-if you've got the patience of a saint and the thirst for horror, that is.

This is a fun horror film with a few good scares that had me jumping a mile high (admittedly, I do scare easily). It is a psychological/supernatural horror film and I appreciated they didn't go super heavy on any gore. Story-wise, you know SOMETHING is off but it keeps you guessing as to what exactly is going on. Production-wise, it's very impressive what the filmmakers pulled off with their limited resources and goes to show you don't need a huge budget to create something original and entertaining. The acting and cinematography were good and the overall direction of the film was on point. Would recommend!

Independent films are hard to compete with the big dog studio films typically due to money and time. This indie horror defied many odds in my opinion having a very talented eye behind the camera, incredible lighting, and a twist on a concept that is relatable to many. Are there moments that you feel choices were made based on what they had, yes, but that doesn't take away from the experience or make it less entertaining which is where some lower budget films can lose me. The characters were developed as well as can be with 90% of the story staying in one location and Stanley really steals the show for me. Overall really well done here and hope to see more from Director Nicolas Wendl, Producer Dani Abraham, and writer Tanner Adams. Maybe a Stupid Games 2 and a bigger budget?

Well paced and intelligently staged micro budget movie that's entertaining throughout. The movie relies heavily on its simple premise but manages to add more intrigue with secrets the characters are hiding about the nature of what is really going on here. Terzakis shines in a stand-out performance that steals the show. As a big fan of complicated board games, it's central prop feels authentic and the rules make sense, which keeps the viewer grounded as the rules of the rest of the world begin to bend toward the supernatural.
Definitely watch with your friends who love horror and get ready to laugh and shout together!

One of the funnest horror movies i seen this season, the idea was original, i liked the board game idea and the twist of cult witches or evil djinn idea.lots of good jokes in it and the ending was superb, for the budget this movie is a 10/10,
The review for the one star saying these aren't real people has bad taste in movies.
Trust me don't judge this movie by its trailer.. it is amazing and you will wonder why it was slept on.. il admit i put it on to have something in the back ground but quickly became inthralled. Good monster design. Like really good and they don't shove it down your throat so you crave more of it.

"Stupid Games" understands the true nature of horror. It's not just about monsters or jump scares, it's about people. The film takes the familiar setup of a gathering between friends and distorts it, pushing each character into an emotional tightrope. The dread builds not only from the unseen forces lurking in the shadows but also from the sharp fractures in relationships that slowly unravel over the course of the evening. It's a masterclass in making the mundane-sitting at a table with friends-feel deeply unsettling.
The characters' shifting dynamics-who trusts whom, and when-are as much a source of tension as the creeping evil stalking them. When the film does finally lean into its darker, more twisted moments, it does so in a way that feels earned, with stakes that have been carefully crafted in every scene.
There's a satisfying intelligence in the way "Stupid Games" plays with genre expectations. The twists aren't there to just shock, but to expose the human vulnerability that drives every character's actions. It's a testament to the film's smart writing and direction that even as things spiral into chaos, there's always a deeper meaning lurking beneath the surface. Thoroughly enjoyed this one.
