Having enjoyed the past incarnations of this series, I was looking forward to "the Next Chapter", but, sadly, it does not deliver. The acting is so bad I'm actually not sure that they weren't intentionally trying to be camp and just missed the mark. The writing is equally inept. There are so many plot holes that the writers actually have to explain why they aren't really plot holes during the story. The nice thing about shows about magic is that you can always write something off to some obscure lore that nobody knew about until it suddenly becomes a brick wall to the story. I call it the "ah, well it doesn't work that way... unless there's a full moon" effect. 4 episodes in and so far.. a disappointment.

To say I am a fan of the Librarian franchise is an understatement. I loved the movies and adored most of the first series. It is up there high on my all time list of favorite TV shows.
I am through 10 episodes of The Next Chapter and I enjoy it, but it is at a level slightly below the original.
Every one of the new characters is just a little less than his or her counterpart, and may more than a little.
Noah Wyle is an insanity that is hard to top. He rules. Vikram is also dynamic but I don't feel like he is as loyal to the Library or as much of a leader. He's as arrogant maybe, but Flynn's arrogance was deserved.
Charlie falls far short of Eve. Eve is a leader and fearless and competent. Charlie has nowhere near the confidence. She follows because she needs to. And I can't say she has been the bad ass fighter so far.
Cassandra Cillian is also high on my list of all time favorite TV characters. She is so full of energy and a little crazy. Assuming Lysa follows in her footsteps, which isn't certain in my mind, she doesn't have the energy and definitely no craziness.
Stone appears in the first of these episodes and I can easily see him being the heir to Flynn. I don't see any of the new characters matching him.
Conner plays outside the box as does Jones. Of them all, Conner comes the closest to being as good.
And then there is Jenkins. While he is a true member of the team, so far Astolat hasn't lived up to that. As an actor John Larroquette was maybe as good and possibly better than any of the original team. His comedic timing was brilliant.
I can't decide if the stories are likewise slightly lesser than the original, since I have such a doubt, that seems to say they are lesser.
This review sounds like I hate the new show, but I don't. It just doesn't live up to what I've already said is one of my favorites.

The story is a bit all over the place. While it was some years ago, I have fond memories of the original series and I was hoping for the same level of quality. The way the characters were introduced or more importantly - NOT introduced leaves gaps in information and instead of enjoying the story unfold, I am left wondering how and why.
In one episode there was a scene where ballet slippers had char on them from being burned, in the next scene no char, then char again when they were being examined in the scene following.
I don't mind corny when it is done well and sadly, this falls a little short in my opinion.
I'm going to keep watching in the hopes that it will improve and we get some of the holes in the story filled in.

When I heard the next chapter was coming out, I was so excited cause I really enjoyed the original. The characters chemistry, the acting, the story lines, there was no sense of boredom in any of the episodes in all four seasons.
When the first episode dropped and I saw Christian Kane, I was totally stoked. Then the rest of the cast showed up and I was like, ok, let me give them a chance.
There is no chemistry between the cast, like the original Librarians.
When the next chapter came out , I went back to watch the original, then I started watching the next chapter and was wholly dissatisfied. They should use better actors for The Librarian and The Guardian.

I've always felt that Slavic mythology and folklore are criminally underrepresented in modern television, which is why this show instantly caught my attention. Right from the very first episode, we're introduced to an interesting Serbian/Slavic legend.
And such an interesting choice of the place to film! Belgrade, filled with beautiful sceneries and historical landscapes, is such a refreshment in the sea of shows with huge skyscrapers and the sterile corporate backdrops.
Happy to see someone is finally tapping into the vast cultural heritage the old Slavs left behind across Europe. There's a lot of stories, symbols, and forgotten lore waiting to be brought to life, and this show seems ready to explore it.
Also, I like how they stayed true to themselves in the terms of filming style, without too much use of CGI. It's giving 00s and 2014 vibes again and I'm all in!

I am not speaking as a pro critic reviewer. Just a fan of the librarians universe in general. The movies and tv show where truly fantastic, even if the cgi on most of it was not great. This new show is not extremely bad but you still compare it to the original. Sadly they did not catch the old charm/magic in this new one. I don't really care for the characters or the story like i had previously. I still watch it and it is ok but they lost what was special about it. It's hard to say what that was exactly besides the old characters, who were way better. I am a fan of Dean Devlin and i think they actually tried but it's just not good enough.

I really liked the original but this is a poor imitation. In the original the "Librarian" was not around for most of the series and the "team" had to solve problems with each member bringing their unique talents to the effort. Each of them was also part of the library.
In this version we have a Librarian from another time (why?) and his team is made up of more or less ordinary people (none of whom were invited) who would be best classified as just sidekicks. It seems like any one of them, except perhaps Charlie, could be replaced with no impact to the show. Even Charlie, who is supposed to be the protector, is not really doing much. Eve from the original series was kicking ass early on.
I assume that as the show continues we will see more character development and the cast acting more like a team, but for now I have seen enough.

I personally loved the New Librarians. After being a fan of all of the movies and series. This one is new and new people, new adventures, lore and fantasy. I dint care about generic CGI. It's a series and need to make a passable show is a must. Plus 1st episode is introductory at best. For everyone.i loved it, thought it was great and will be watching it hopefully for years to come. I was excited to see Stone back and leader position . I'm sure all characters will continue to develop and bond and writers will also figure out the dynamics. I'm sure a lot are new . Like I said for a new show ...it was great.
I more or less enjoyed the predecessor (it was more my partner's thing, and I just sort of experienced it in passing) so we decided to try this one, too. It's more or less OK, as far as these things go, but the acting and writing is pretty poor, and as someone who has spent a lot of time overseas, I just don't understand why they've set in Belgrade but all the characters speak perfect English (maybe with an accent, but sometimes not) and all the signs in hospitals and all through the series are also in English. Seems very improbable to me (not that the magical elements are "probable"...). I suppose it doesn't do any harm, but it's hardly quality tv.
Dean Devlin has been wanting to do this for a LOOOOONNNNNGGGG time!! And he FINALLY got his wish!!! He has NEW Librarians, NEW stories, in a NEW country, in a whole ATMOSPHERE, and in THE FUTURE!! And the only thing that is OLD.......is Jacob Stone. Who comes forward in time to help out these new Librarians and gets.them started in their new adventures and learns how to work together!!
They have new monsters, new foes, the special effects are really top notch!! But what is REALLY THE MOST IMPRESSIVE OF ALL?? Is the architecture of Belgrade, Serbia. Their old time buildings are SO BEAUTIFUL, their fortresses and churches, leave you breathless. They're a sight to behold. The way these kids bond together right from the beginning, is delightful, forming a trust only a true family can have. Each member holds secrets that will be revealed later about themselves that will really surprise you.
This is gonna be ONE SWELL RIDE!!
I am now reviewing the episode The Dance of Doom. Something Evil 😈 is going on in the local dance theater in Belgrade, and they DON'T want the latest production of Giselle to go on. Sinister goings on traced to the owner of the traveling company after the latest prima ballerina suffers from an unfortunate accident while performing in a public performance of the upcoming show.
The Librarians herd about it and realize that something evil is a foot, get it, a FOOT?? Well they finally HAVE to use all the Library's books and other means of information, as well as their BRAINS and detective wits to figure out what's going on and prevent disaster!! I call this episode The EVIL BALLERINA!!
MONSTERS......WITCHES!! Ours Librarians are certainly going to be facing some interesting characters and foes these upcoming seasons!!! But they are facing them HEAD ON with BRAVERY, COURAGE, EXCITEMENT and WILLINGNESS to take down whatever gets in their way to protect the masses from EVIL FORCES!! BY HOPEFULLY USING AS LITTLE MAGIC AS POSSIBLE!!! This show, The Librarians: The Next Chapter is SURE to be a winner and has a long path ahead of it!!
Today, I offer my review of episode 6, And The House of Cards on June 24th, 2025. We are now halfway through season 1 and it's going so well!! The Librarian crew are in search off walking in the woods, when they walk thru their magic door, they are NOT in THEIR ANNEX!! And when they DO, they're not all together, Vikram is all alone, which for a short time, he appreciates the peace and quiet. But the kids end up at some kind of party where some type of tarot reading is about to take place. What's weird about all these party attendees.......they're all the subjects on the tarot cards!! One by one, they are being murdered with the dagger they were sent to find. This is sort of a take off on the movie CLUE!!
FINALLY later on, Vikram joins them with the clues on how to determine who the murderer is. The dagger is recovered and the party ends. The Librarians go back to their OWN ANNEX.
This is the end of the line for this season.....episode 12, And The Unfinished Business!! Turns out, THIS was EVERYBODY'S favorite episode of the whole season!!! Jake Stone came back to fight and quash the villain once and for all, and the WHOLE CREW was working together in perfect harmony, taking down the bad guys, and destroying his imminent regime. At the end, the kids are made full fledged Librarians, Lysa will NOT be selling the castle, and FINALLY, Vikram makes visual contact with his old love Anya, meets his infant son, says his final goodbyes, and the painting of her disintegrates into dust. He is free to live is life as The Belgrade Librarian in the now and the future without fawning over the past anymore.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter I believe has a VERY PROMISING future, as season 2 has already been filmed and is currently in post production. Comments from the viewers are saying they CAN'T WAIT until season 2 arrives and hope it won't be a year, cuz many great stars are making appearances. TNT takes their time that way, so we'll just have to see. But overall. A FANTASTIC SEASON 1.

If you've ever watched the original movies "The Librarian" or/and tv show "The Librarians", avoid this one!
This "Next Chapter" can't even be compared to the originals. I simply can't grasp the fact that someone decided that this angle, with an attempt to copy "science" perspective from Cassandra into this new girl, or "selfish and lone-wolf type" of Flynn into this librarian, or "history-crazed" Stone into that new guy... and the guradian who looks like a plastic GI Jane... would be ever successful!
Worth mentioning awful dialogs with tacky lines and overused, unoriginal "plots". Makes me wonder if the creators of this "Next Chapter" even read their own script, because for the looks of it, someone simply asked AI to create a similar to origianls tv show.
Such a disappointment in every single detail.. What a shame, I had such high hopes for this show...
Definitely to cancel...

Bad CGI, rubber monster costume, mid action and writing and a cast that does it's best with what is given to them. Add some nice locations, mediocre sets and you have a great show. Truely I love it. In a day and age that he world seems to go to hell with dictators and wars this show makes me smile.
The show is non pretentious, wants to entertain and doesn't care how silly it is. Can there be improved, sure, gravel voice guy should drop the mumbling an the hysterical evil laugh only works in an Austin Powers movie. Cutting action scenes should be coordinated by the stunt coordinator and not whoever cut this show.

I managed to endure 15 minutes of The Librarians: The Next Chapter, and that felt like a generous investment of time. This show seems tailored for those who appreciate disjointed plot lines and a world-building logic that defies comprehension. Honestly, it might have been more coherent without any actors at all.
Take Connor Green, portrayed by Bluey Robinson. He's introduced as a YouTuber who, out of nowhere, becomes an expert in Serbian history. Because, of course, internet fame naturally equates to historical expertise. His sudden scholarly prowess feels as believable as a cat teaching quantum physics.
Then there's Lysa Pascal, the brilliant scientist with degrees in physics, mathematics, and engineering. Despite witnessing a magical library materialize before her very eyes, she remained skeptical about the existence of magic.
In summary, if you're seeking a show that challenges your patience and leaves you questioning your life choices, this might be the perfect pick. Otherwise, you might want to explore other options.

Riding the coattails of the old librarians show this is obviously an entirely new show based on the premise of magic existing and a new team trying to stop it from running amok.
Story wise there's already a few interesting ideas and cool concepts explored. It's a new magic thing happening each episodes that our heroes need to stop. Cursed trains stuck in a time loop and evil witches etc.
New cast needs some time to grow but the chemistry is already there, the actors are all fine, especially Jessica Green who is my favorite.
Obviously not the highest of budget shows but the effects look decent, for instance the monster in ep. 1 is a decent costume.
The effects aren't too scary or anything even though people do get injured and even killed sometimes.
Giving it 10 stars because I really enjoy magical shows that aren't gloomy or too serious, just some fun and excitement.

The writing is juvenile , the acting is amateurish, there is no chemistry between the actors .
The lead is a ham who thinks overwrought facial expressions are Shakespererian .
Olivia Morris is the only likeable main cast member.
Its not the actors i gather i am sure they are all accomplished and are capable of more than what they deliver here .
It is everything else.
Maybe its on the director(s) or studio meddling ....
it feels cheap and shoddy at every level. It is ill spent craftsmanship and ressources
it is a waste of popcorn and a beer, on a night with nothing to do and nothing to watch.
If its a choice between this and watching bacon fry in a pan , or watching my dog chase a stray fly, then its no contest , those win, every time.

Building on the world created in the previous story and the original movies, The Librarians once again has the head of a magical library devoted to protecting the world from magic teaming up with a bunch of randos to repeatedly save the world.
Like the first series, this is incredibly silly. While the characters are all adults, they all act like they're about 15, and there are episodes heavily focused on things like, "why don't the other kids invite me to hang out with them." So that's weird.
But the show is quick moving and funny, and some episodes are actually surprisingly clever. The best episode to date (I think there have been 7 so far) involves a train trapped in time, which is fantastic. There's also an excellent take-off on cozy murder mysteries, with characters hurling their backstory at everyone that passes.
The characters are enjoyable, even if Vikram's librarian can be annoyingly pompous and Charlie wears these weirdly distracting contacts that make her pupils insanely pale. The best character is the mysterious Elaine, who unfortunately is only seen sporadically.
Some people here have pointed out that a lot of this makes no sense and is neither internally consistent no consistent with the original series. Which is a weird complaint, because The Librarians never made a lick of sense. My guess is these are people who were children when the first series was on and now they've developed critical thinking skills they didn't have at the time.
From the beginning, the Librarians has been fun and ridiculous, and this latest version is every bit as fun, and every bit as ridiculous, as you would want it to be. If you don't mind the silliness, you should definitely check this out.

Whenever there is a reboot or "next chapter" of any show it's difficult not to compare it to the original as you watch. Especially when you're a big fan of the original series. But I tried, sometimes unsuccessfully, to keep that to a minimum.
The feel of the show is true to the original, the storylines have been good with all the humour & fun whimsy you would expect.
Vickram, the new Librarian is wonderful; he's quirky, funny, & at times as chaotic as Flynn. I want to learn more about him.
Lysa & Connor are I guess meant to be the new Cassandra & Ezekiel. I find them different enough so they kind of hold their own as new characters. They're not true "Librarians", more like a couple of folks just along for the ride, which is a bit odd. I get more of a poor man's Mulder & Scully vibe from them - he says "magic" she says "not magic, it's science" and so on.
The weakest part for me is Charlie, the new Guardian. I can't help compare her to Eve, because she is an inferior version. The character is uninteresting, the acting isn't that strong, and she doesn't have that blend of strength & vulnerability, the enormous Kick-ass potential that Rebecca Romijn brought to Eve. Maybe she will grow on me.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the season, I really want to love this one as much as the original.

The fantasy story lines are unique, not reruns of other fantasies. Some names might be shared but people and things takes on a whole new personality. The writers are comfortable with there own imagination and are not afraid to take viewers into whole new fantastical worlds.
The cast is great, like all Devlin productions there is great chemistry. The acting brilliant and full of character. Libraries may seem antiquated in our digital age but this library says otherwise.

Neurotic Flynn
Down to earth badass Eve
Bubbly über geek Cassandra
Charming rogue with a big heart Ezekiel
Culturally saavy Jacob Stone
Jenkins!!! I so long to see Jenkins!
I will give it more time but so far I am unimpressed.
I'm also annoyed by the teams similarity: the librarian is a man, with a female guardian. I think a female librarian would have been a nice change in dynamics.
The other girl is extremely brilliant (not unlike Cassandra).
I may be asking for too much but I would love a movie with the original cast.
So far, this doesn't feel as imaginative as the original show. That and the creature in the first episode looked like a werewolf.

Warehouse 13 meets Indiana Jones! If you enjoyed The Librarians then you will enjoy the first two episodes of this series immensely.
Dean Devlin and his team do such a great job of keeping you interested while dropping hints of future character development.
It's also a more diverse cast so the character backgrounds will likely be much different as well, which is wonderful. I'm excited to see where this Next Chapter goes.
Granted, there are some areas that are a bit campy, but isn't that why the fanbase is here. One should not expect blockbuster effects and monster make-up to be on that level.

I'm on s1e11 & it hasn't gotten any better. I wish I could say, "well, at least the costumes are pretty, or locations are lush, or it stays true to the original," but NONE of that is the case. The characters have no chemistry & even for a silly, mindless escape from the ills of the real world, this doesn't deliver. I'm not looking for realism or a masters level writing script. But some semblance of continuity or development of characters or build toward a point would be nice. There has been zero growth from the first episode to the penultimate episode. The acting is cardboard. This isn't just a pass, it's a HARD pass.

Folks... I think this is going to be a great continuation of an iconic beloved series.
I see reviews missing the old cast but let's be real, things change. Time moves on and we should be able to move on in a those new directions. It's life.
I'll start with Vikram Chamberlin played by the amazing Callum McGowan. I'm already in love with this character. He is charming, humorous and has a loving appeal about him. Reminds me a little of the Darington Dare character from the original Librarians. Callum has the daunting task of filling Noah Wyle's shoes and that is no easy feat. No he's not Flynn Carson and he's not meant to be. He's his own person in his right. I'm excited to see what he brings to our screens. I really love the character of Vikram, and he is my favorite.
Then there is the library team made up of Lysa Pascal played by Olivia Morris. She's the scientist of the group who looks exactly like a woman from Vikram's past. I'm interested to see where that leads us. Then there is Connor Green played by Bluey Robinson. I'm not quite sure what he's special talents are, he does have a lot of education so maybe someone like Jacob Stone perhaps. But I love his chemistry with everyone and I feel there is a lot of hidden potential with Connor. Then there is Charlie Cornwall played by Jessica Green. She is the guardian. There will obviously be no romantic connection between her and Vikram because of Lysa and this is a good change. Rounding out our new Librarian team is Ms. Elaine Astolat played by the superb Caroline Lonca. She is the new Jenkins and I think they hit the casting goldmine here. She is calm, humorous, intelligent and honest. She maybe my favorite casting in the bunch.
I give this new show a 10/10 because it brings back the nostalgia, adventure and the magic back to our small screens. I loved the old show because of all this and also because it was a good clean show I could watch over and over. I feel I am getting that again with this new Librarian show. I am very grateful to Dean Devlin who is a genius with his writing and production. I'm open to new possibilities and I'm super excited to watch all the episodes!
Magic is back my friends!

I gave it a good long chance, 4 episodes, but ultimately I could not take it anymore. The stories were boring and the characters were too bland or annoying to keep watching.
The main librarian guy is trying too hard to be like the old one, while carrying a cane that he doesn't use or need to walk with. There was potential there, but we're just not rekindling the magic of Noah Wyle.
Jessica Green needs to fix her eyebrows, I don't know what's going on there but they're highly distracting. I think she's using filler and doing a square cut, on top of dying them...Very weird. Just let them be natural with light plucking if necessary, please.
The black dude was just noise in the background. Some kind of historian? Not very convincing.
The best part of the show was Olivia Morris' facial expressions, she has a huge library of them and she's doing a new one all the time. That was very cute and entertaining.

A great first episode on the next chapter, awesome casting, scenery and true lineage back to the original, Bob Newhart would be proud. Callum McGowan is great as the new lead, Jessica Green is a good choice for guardian, but can use a softer feel that made Rebecca Romijn approachable. Olivia Morris and Bluey Robinson are great as the new LITs. I hope to see John Kim in a subsequent episode, he is my favorite character. The scenery is spectacular and real. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the special effects can be better. I can't wait to see the other episodes Librarians rule!
