There are plenty who do, but so often a familiar face will enjoy a hot streak before vanishing from the limelight. Back in the '90s we had a number of such actors. Alicia Silverstone, Meg Ryan, and Bridget Fonda all hit their peak during the decade and became household names thanks to their hits. And then they were gone, either suffering from a string of poor choices (Silverstone), taking a break from acting (Ryan), or retiring altogether (Fonda). Look beyond those films, though, and Tubi is positively stuffed with genre and cult offerings – sci-fi, horror, comedy, martial arts, thrillers and more besides. Hollywood is seeing an elevation of stunts and a new level of respect for the community. Despite the awards being handed out during the pre-show — they are not part of the main ceremony — Stuntmen Association president Jeff Wolfe isn’t fazed by that. Speaking with Variety, Wolfe whose directorial debut “Outbreak” is now streaming on Prime Video said, “It feels we’re in a place of feeling a little more grateful and mutually respected, as opposed to having to fight and be against something.”

Deadline reports that filming has wrapped on a shark thriller called The Bay, which stars Francesca Eastwood (Old) alongside Dani Oliveros (Outbreak), Alexander Wraith (Naomi), and Ta’imua (It’s Not How It Sounds). They also unveiled the first look image that can be seen above. Architect is handling international sales and is co-representing North American rights with Roundtable, and they will be presenting the project to potential buyers at the European Film Market this month.

Production on this one took place in Oahu, Hawaii. The writers strike caused a lot of films and TV shows to shut down production a couple months ago – and a lot more that were able to continue filming without writers have since been shut down by the Screen Actors Guild strike. But if a production happens to be independent, it can receive a waiver that will allow it to continue filming and its actors will continue working, even if they’re SAG members. Deadline and Variety report that some of the projects that have received SAG waivers include the Sam Raimi-produced horror film Don’t Move, the Mel Gibson / Mark Wahlberg thriller Flight Risk, the thriller The Watchers, and Hannibal TV series creator Bryan Fuller’s Dust Bunny, starring Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver.

Hollywood’s historic double strike has shut down the vast majority of productions across the country but not all of them.

On Tuesday, SAG-AFTRA approved certain productions that aren’t affiliated with any of the struck studios or streamers to keep filming. The list includes David Lowery’s Mother Mary and Rebel Wilson comedy Bride Hard.

Independent productions not affiliated with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers members can apply for waivers from SAG-AFTRA to continue production, the union stated. The waivers mostly apply to independent projects, though Biblical project The Chosen was granted one to finish filming its fourth season even though Lionsgate has distribution rights. Members can work on these shoots without being in violation of the strike order.

To be granted a waiver, a production must sign an interim agreement that “would largely be conformed to the AMPTP agreement on a going-forward basis once the membership ratifies successor agreements,...

Guild publishes list less than one week into strike.

SAG-AFTRA on Tuesday published its first list of independent films which have signed an interim agreement allowing production to resume and it includes several titles from A24 and Lionsgate.

Among the 39-strong roster is A24’s Mother Mary, which sees David Lowery direct Anne Hathaway and Hunter Schafer in the tale of the relationship between a fictional musician and a fashion designer.

A24 also has the Paul Rudd and Jenny Ortega project Death Of A Unicorn scheduled to shoot in Hungary.
