‘Alien: Earth’ Soundtrack Explained by Creator Noah Hawley
Image
Only the first two episodes of Hulu’s Alien: Earth have dropped so far, but the soundtrack is already making waves. Both episodes feature needle drops, a first for the franchise, and fans are loving the change. Even better, creator Noah Hawley has confirmed this will continue throughout the series, with each episode set to close on a rock ’n’ roll needle drop.

Alien: Earth, a prequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien, is set two decades before the events of the 1979 movie. The show explores what would’ve happened if a Weyland-Yutani research vessel had crashed on Earth. Those who’ve watched the first two Alien: Earth episodes must’ve noticed that while Episode 1, Neverland, ends with Black Sabbath’s The Mob Rules, Episode 2, Mr. October, closes with Tool’s Stinkfist.

The fact that both of these are rock songs is no coincidence. Instead, it is a conscious decision that Hawley made.

'Star Trek: Picard' Star Leads 'E.T.' Meets 'Alien' Sci-Fi Thriller in First 'Xeno' Trailer [Exclusive]
Image
What if E.T. was less cute and cuddly, and instead resembled a razor-jawed H.R. Giger creature from Alien? And what if that alien's appetites tended more towards living flesh than delicious Reese's Pieces? Those questions are asked and answered in the new Collider-exclusive trailer for Xeno, a new science fiction adventure film starring Lulu Wilson. It's a heartfelt story of a girl and her gruesome alien pal like no other. Xeno will hit theaters on September 19.

In the new trailer, Wilson is Renee Rowan, a teenage girl who has an affinity for unlovable creatures, as evidenced by the snake living in her terrarium. But that affinity is going to be put to the test when she meets Xeno, a snarling quadropedal alien beast with a taste for livestock. Nevertheless, the two form a bond, which becomes a big problem when an alien-hunting government task force led by Jonathan Keyes...

Lulu Wilson Boards Hulu Comedy From Sketch Duo  BriTANicK
Image
Lulu Wilson (Becky) has inked a deal to star alongside Stranger Things‘ Gaten Matarazzo and Sean Giambrone in an untitled Hulu comedy written and directed by Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher, the comedy duo otherwise known as BriTANicK.

In the film announced last week, a group of college students order a pizza to their dorm, but after they accidentally ingest a home-made drug, their simple journey down two flights of stairs to retrieve it turns into a mind-bendingly transformative quest.

Wilson will play the smart, sarcastic and insecure Lizzy, who we first meet as one of the members of a vapid popular crowd. We quickly realize she’s hiding who she really is — someone obsessed with fantasy and board games — to fit in with these popular kids, and will do whatever it takes to remain in their good graces.

American High’s Jeremy Garelick and Will Phelps will produce alongside...

“As scary as it should be”: The Man Behind the Scariest Marvel Show Has Promised a New Species in ‘Alien: Earth’ and I Know What’s Next
Image
Space-horror nerds need to buckle up because Noah Hawley, the twisted mind behind Marvel’s Legion, pledged to turn nightmares into sci-fi reality with Alien: Earth. During an interview on the Emmys red carpet, Hawley teased a brand-new species that won’t be your average Xenomorph. I’m talking black goo, mystery hosts, and some next-gen nightmare fuel.

Promising a creature that’s “as scary as it should be,” possibly born from the eerie ooze we last saw in Prometheus and Covenant, Noah Hawley sparked curiosity. Now, while I’m excited about this new species, I can’t help but wonder if Disney is at play. Now that Predator: Badlands is set to have a new predator, is Disney setting up new species in Alien: Earth for the ultimate Alien vs. Predator showdown? Let’s check out.

Noah Hawley has promised a new Xenomorph species in Alien: Earth A still...

‘Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition’ Review: Epic, Unwieldy, and Utterly Sincere
Image
Often regarded as the odd duck of the Xeno series, Xenoblade Chronicles X, newly remastered from its 2015 release in a Definitive Edition for the Switch, may be the purest expression of Takahashi Tetsuya’s thematic fixations through game design. Like every Xeno game, it spins a gnostic sci-fi yarn about humanity overcoming a hostile world and combating cyclical forces of backwardness and bigotry through cooperation, progress, and transcendent will. But where some titles in the cutscene-heavy series have struggled to square away their anime-inspired storytelling with gameplay, nearly every aspect of Xenoblade Chronicles X’s expansive and at times overwrought design leads back to this thematic core.

The game’s scenario posits an ark ship of beleaguered refugees expelled from their ancient homeland of Los Angeles on Earth to claim a new home in the far reaches of the universe. Fleeing an apocalyptically destructive clash between fanatical alien empires, this militarized,...

Dr. Stone Season 4, Episode 12's Crazy Cliffhanger Barely Managed to Save the Anime From Itself
Image
The following contains spoilers for Dr. Stone Season 4, Episode 12, "Reunion," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

The episode leading up to Dr. Stone Season 4, Episode 12 ends on a thrilling cliffhanger as both sides of the scientist vs. scientist war reach the Stone Age equivalent of a classic chess checkmate. Dr. Xeno's crew captures the Perseus with Stanley Snider to oversee things, while Chrome's team breaks into Dr. Xeno's castle to capture the man himself. Now, Dr. Stone Season 4, Episode 12 makes good on that breathtaking cliffhanger by trading away most of the violence for smart negotiations.

It's a repetition of a strange trend for the Science Future story arc in Dr. Stone, with the anime's focus on educational entertainment and teamwork giving way to its action movie antics. The action includes an airplane dogfight and a clash of warriors aboard the Perseus, but it's a conflict not designed to last. As Dr. Stone Season 4, Episode 12 demonstrates,...

How One Scrappy RPG Studio Could Be Nintendo’s Secret Weapon for the Switch 2
Image
In eight years the Nintendo Switch has become one of the most popular video game systems of all time, kickstarting a new generation of handheld consoles that includes the likes of PC-based Asus Rog Ally and Sony’s streaming device, the PlayStation Portal. As the third best-selling console of all time, with staggering software sales, it’s easy to say the Switch has been a renaissance for Nintendo, especially coming off of the failure that was the Wii U.

And while games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the...

‘Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition’ Is an Ok Version of a Brilliant RPG
Image
No studio makes games like Monolith Soft. That’s not hyperbole — literally no other RPGs blend humanism and sci-fi with philosophy, reflections on grief, and religious commentary the way Tetsuya Takahashi and his writers have for the last 30 years. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a remaster of the series’ black sheep, a 2015 spinoff left to wither away on Nintendo’s worst-selling platform, the Wii U. And while it’s disappointing as a re-release, it’s one of the studio’s most interesting and best-designed games nonetheless.

The Xenoblade games are part of a lengthy,...

Alien: Earth Poster Reveals A New Breed Of Xenomorph And A Chilling Tagline
Image
FX on Hulu has revealed the first official key art for Noah Hawley's upcoming Alien: Earth, which is set to premiere this summer (an exact date has yet to be announced).

The poster unveils a new breed of Xenomorph along with an ominous tagline: "We were safer in space"- a clear nod to the iconic words that leapt from the taser poster for Ridley Scotts original film, "In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream."

Although a teaser promo was released last year, we still know very little about the show beyond a brief logline (see below), but Hawley recently shared some intriguing new details about what will undoubtedly be the most important aspect of the project for many fans: the aliens.

Though the series is set in the (seemingly) safe confines of Earth before the events of the '70s classic, the titular acid-secreting creatures will still...

Dragon Ball is Still Unstoppable, Even Black Myth: Wukong and Warhammer Could Not Beat Sparking! Zero on Steam
Image
Created by the late Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball‘s impact on popular pop culture is undeniable. Beyond the manga and anime, this $23 billion franchise has also shown its tremendous influence in the gaming industry. The most prominent example of this is the new Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero game, which took the gaming industry by storm even before its official release.

Surprisingly, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has skyrocketed to among the top positions on Steam’s Top Sellers list globally, surpassing some of the most beloved games like Black Myth: Wukong and Warhammer. And the rank is expected to improve even more.

The Rise of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero

FX’s ‘Alien’ Earthbound Series From Noah Hawley Drops Logline & Teaser
Image
Noah Hawley’s FX series Alien: Earth has revealed the show’s logline and went wide with a teaser trailer (above) that previously screened for a limited group of lucky moviegoers who watched Alien: Romulus.

The quick clip shows an angry and feral Xenomorph with dark sharp teeth and lips dripping with drool. But is that actually drool or could it be blood? You’ll find out in 2025 when the series premieres only on Hulu. At least one thing is for sure, Xeno is hangry.

When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.

Lead by Chandler, the series also stars Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille and Moe Bar-El.

Alien: Romulus' Ripley Easter Egg Sets Up A Controversial Sequel With Sigourney Weaver's Return
Image
Warning: Major spoilers for Alien: Romulus below!A major Alien: Romulus easter egg could be setting up a controversial sequel involving Sigourney Weaver's Ripley. The box-office success of Alien: Romulus not only proves there's still an audience for the sci-fi saga, but that the latest sequel was right to start essentially from scratch. Instead of paying off Covenant's cliffhanger ending or bringing back a familiar face, the story focused on a new set of characters while expanding on concepts introduced in other entries. This includes the return of the Engineer's Black Goo, which has the power to alter the DNA of any living being.

Director Fede Alvarez is a noted fanboy of the series, so his film is still laden with easter eggs and nods. A well-hidden Romulus easter egg confirms Ripley's shuttle was docked at the Renaissance station in-between the events of Alien and Aliens. This poses many questions,...
